In this video, we look at specific latent heat of fusion and specific latent heat of vaporisation. We look at what these mean and then go on to calculate these.

You should do more of the higher stuff like grade 7-9 questions because I do triple science and I found that some of the questions we did in class were more complicated than this but thanks :)

Hi Sir I don't get how specific latent heat works... you said that it is the amount of thermal energy needed to change state on the substance without change in temperature. How does that work?

hey there, i have some confusion regarding the formula of specific latent heat, it says E=m*l, and at 2:21, you named ''E'' as energy for change of state, but isn't the energy needed to change the state of matter called specific latent heat? but in formula it further say (mass*specific latent heat)

Normally we only convert to kJ when the value in joules is extremely large. The question should tell you what it wants.

Because all of the energy has gone to break the forces between the molecules, rather than increase the kinetic energy of the molecules.

Only because that is the language that the AQA exam board use in the specification. I like to very specifically follow the spec as that is what the exams are based on.

Yes because if the temperature changed, then we would have to consider the specific heat capacity rather than the specific latent heat.

This is for the AQA spec but the specs are virtually identical now so it also applies to Edexcel, except that in the Edexcel spec, they use the letter Q for energy not E.
