My husband sustained a spinal cord injury after he was hit on his motorcycle several years ago, and the impact it's had on our lives is, well... everything. And even as severe as his injury was, we had it relatively easy compared to some of the folks we met during his rehab. The research this charity supports is so, so impactful for people with an SCI. 💜

Ludwig this sounds really really cool, and i hope that this could be another one of your continued events. But i do wish that you had gotten some unknown communities in the mix, alot of the fun of GDQ is people speedrunning games you never knew, or old games you had forgotton about, so like watching someone speedrun the hobbit game for the gamecube, or Sly cooper. Like games with small communities but alot of passion in them. But im 100% gonna be watching, since i already watch 80% of the people thats coming to the event lmao.

It's so weird, because I've never heard of her before nor their previous identity. So, it's almost as if mentioning not being deadnamed draws more attention than her being herself :D I could be wrong, because I've never asked a transperson whether mentioning a deadnaming didn't happen would be worse than actual deadnaming. i wonder if ludwig is going to go for short crowd-pleaser runs here. judging from the list it seems that way. personally im disappointed to not see a longer run of an RPG at this event but it's the first time so i expect it to be fairly simple. also seems like it will not be an in person event which takes alot away from the runs since there wont be a live audience and there wont be a physical couch of co-commentators, though it might be wrong and it could be in person. i hope this event goes well regardless and ill be tuning in. it's always good to have a space for the speedrunning community and i'm glad someone like ludwig is behind it. best of luck to the team.

As a pretty good speedrunner myself I would really like to see more “high level” speed runners at the event. I completely understand wanting charismatic creators, but what got me and many others into speedrunning was watching a game I played as a kid be beaten in a ridiculously fast fashion. Getting a wider variety of games is always nice. There’s a ton of amazing games that I don’t think are going to be featured here (super biased, but Super Metroid comes to mind here). I obviously will still be watching the event, and will (still biased) be especially excited to watch Niftski crush whatever SMB1/SMB2J/Weird ass romhack he decides to play. I just hope the “+ More” has some more less known charismatic speed runners. No hate at all, still an awesome idea. Any speedrunning event is always sick to see. :)

you say that you would like to see more "high level" speedrunner but arguably some of these guys are actually "high level" speedrunners. lilaggy for one is a legendary sekiro speedrunner. Other streamers who are legendary in their respective games/categories include cjya, niftski, easeyspeezy, linkus7 and wirtual. All of these guy have held world records in extremely competitive games or game categories. Keep in mind, these are only the speedrunners that I recognize. I think that your idea of selecting a wider variety of games and seeing more "high level" speedruns has already been done by other charity events like GDQ, ESA, RPG Limit Break. They also have a wider variety of games. This speedrunning event is trying to add its own flavor. The problem with gdq is that most of the runners and commentators are actually very boring to watch through (no offense to the runners or commentators). There are a couple extremely exciting and energetic commentators (my favorite of the bunch being spikedvegeta) but I generally choose to skip a lot of runs (even for games that I particularly enjoy) because I found going through a long run to be rather boring. Like I've mentioned before linkus7 is an excellent runner, specifically for wind waker. His run of wind waker is filled with very energetic and informative commentaries with extremely fun moments and overall hype levels are pretty high. However watching other legend of zelda runs from other runners don't interest me because they don't manage to capture my attention. Based on what ludwig said, the following speedrunning event is probably gonna capture the exciting and energetic side of speedrunning events and trying to do what you say would probably be a setback to that vision. EDIT: I'm gonna mention what each speedrunner is known for Niftski -> legendary super mario bros speedrunner (known for getting the perfect super mario bros any% run down to every frame) Cjya -> Super Mario Odyssey min. captures linkus7 -> pretty much every category of wind waker wirtual -> legendary trackmania player (idk much about trackmania world records, I just recognize his name)

One who has devoted thousands of hours to Super Metroid and Super Mario Bros. 1 I think my frustration/disappointment came from his tweet where like 1.5k speedrunners responded to him shooting their shot. I also think perhaps I should be a little more patient to see full roster. I’m sure it’s gonna be close to 50/50 content creators vs. devoted runners. I appreciate your reply trying to keep me in check, bc sometimes that’s what I need to hear lol. I made a comment based solely on reaction rather than actual well thought-out opinion.

@@Drewski_i I completely understand where you're coming from. I think your frustration is definitely reasonable. I'm also a speedrunner. However unlike you I haven't really devoted thousands of hours into speedruns (I've speedran super mario world, celeste, kingdom hearts and a couple other games). While some of these streamers don't partake in high level speedruns and don't hold world records (or top positions in competitve runs), they are definitely ingrained in speedrunning communities and have made content around speedruns. They're definitely not nobodies who have no right to be in a speedrunning event. Some of these guys were even legendary in the speedrunning space and then transitioned into content creation later (I've already mentioned some in my previous comment). Besides, GDQ and other events already do the kind of thing you've mentioned so imo nobody is really losing here.
