I agree with you! KZfaq needs to invest more in their livestreaming side. If they can improve their chat and discoverability for streamers, they could definitely give Twitch a run for its money.
@SimonWakefieldUK
@SimonWakefieldUK 6 ай бұрын
They won't though as the money isn't in live streaming as it's just much harder to monetise for the platform. Most livestreamers on Twitch don't generate Twitch money, they use up way more bandwidth to put their content out, the viewers they have use more than if thet watched a video and putting ads inti the stream is harder, you preroll you scare people away but the ads go into the livestream you can annoy people by making them watch an ad rather than the moment they watched for hours to see. It's really only the small number with a big normal video following on YT that live streaming on YT makes sense for everyone. So they will focus on videos and shorts where the money is better for them and leave Twitch & Kick to take the livestreamers who don't have the YT following to pull people into YT livestreams
@06ToyotaCorolla

@@SimonWakefieldUK I don't know, KZfaq already has a pretty solid experience just because of things like like video player, and YT also doesn't have the very visible baggage and drama that Twitch does(on the streaming side of things). I've had my Twitch account since 2012, and I already prefer watching streams on YT. The only features that seem to be missing(on the viewer side, I don't stream myself) are gift subs and things like 3rd party emotes. I see way higher view counts on YT as opposed to Twitch for the same streamer, and more and more streams are showing up next to recommended videos and on the homepage. I could easily see YT legitimately killing or doing some serious damage to Twitch in the coming years.
@SimonWakefieldUK
@SimonWakefieldUK 6 ай бұрын
@@06ToyotaCorolla I would hazard a guess you are watching streamers who already have big KZfaq presence though. Discovery of live-streams on KZfaq is awful on its own, it's hard enough to get viewers on twitch as discovery isn't great there but it much harder on YT. KZfaq is setup to push you short vods, not long livestreams. A livestream just costs way more for them to provide and they can't monetise as well (advertiser's are just less interested in buying livestream and spots and it's harder to place them due to the nature of a livestream) so there is nothing driving them to push livestreams in a serious way, if anything a livestream is more a tool for them to send you to both the streamers vods or other users vods on the platform. As a streamer if you are able to put time into YT and get lucky and it blows up enough then switching to YT for streaming may make sense but otherwise YT is never going to put the money into making a low income, high expense part of their business more appealing to people without big YT followings as they are a business. It's why after the real push they did a few years ago on improving the live streaming side it's largely been neglected since as the realised what mixer found and what we see with Twitch now finding that making money in the livestream game is limited

Not sure why y’all don’t get it, all of these platforms spent money on exclusive deals (in the beginning) to bring the big guns and hence their viewers to the platform. Then once its stable they don’t have to do it any more. These exclusive contracts were just like SEO/SEM to increase visitors and stable users for their platform. You think paying $100 mil to xqc generates profits? Lol its advertisement and you use it to boost your numbers, then create stable users, market it for more exclusive deals for other streamers, and in the end when it all works and stabilises the user base you don’t need to any more since you gained the market share you hoped for. This is literally any business basics 101 done right by all the current successful streaming platforms. Didn’t work for some because they tried weird stuff unnecessarily making their platform uncomfortably inaccessible in ways (microsofts little disaster in mixer, which was completely their own fault for reasons anyone who used the platform easily understood) and they paid for it. But the rest did well and now they don’t need to throw money unnecessarily like this anymore

I only view streams on Twitch, because Twitch feels like it's a streaming platform, KZfaq was a video platform, when you go into a stream on YT, it feels like they did it in 5mins. The layout, chat and everything is the same as on their video services. If they made an exclusive KZfaq LIVE, or something and actually worked on it a bit, so it was user friendly, i would swap to YT no problem. I love my chat on Twitch (that's occupying whole right side of screen), my followed streamers bar on the left, the way i can easily press "Browse" and look for other streamers in certain games. It's not as easy and intuitive on YT.

The culture on twitch is definitely the biggest thing that separates it. I find that if I plan to participate in chats which is usually smaller streamers that I know better I prefer twitch 100% of the time but if I am just going to be watching a bigger streamer that I am just there for the stream itself then youtube also wins that 100% of the time. It just has a better player and less ads and that makes the lurker experience significantly better on youtube as a whole. I also really like having all of a creators content be accessible from one page. If I am watching a streamer on youtube it's very easy to find any other content they've made as shorts or videos and just having to put in less effort to find that content makes me more likely to check it out in the first place.

All good points, but in Pokimane's case, she has fallen off so hard she probly wouldnt have gotten a very big offer for exclusivity even if they were still doing that. She's making it seem like it's twitch's failing that they dont want to pay her to fall off further exclusively on their platform. People are kinda just sick of her smug superior attitude regarding the people who support her, and her half-assed misleading apologies nobody is buying.

YT also isn't blocked on most corporate fire walls unlike Twitch and Kick. I can't throw on a Twitch stream in the background at the office, but I can for a YT stream. I feel like this market of viewers isn't as niche as people think but I hardly see anyone mentioning it. Especially with a return to office in many industries it could have a significant impact on Americans that stream during the average work day.

Twitch’s change of stance on multi streaming seems like a mandatory concession for sub split/payout changes and stopping exclusivity guarantees, but it’s probably more strategic than that. Multi streaming is an opportunity for discoverability. Obviously, that’s great for creators, but also for Twitch. Twitch is notorious for offering bad to no discoverability and probably conceded on this because of the zero-sum and top heavy nature of live streaming. Now while the optics alone for this change are already good, the real game/gain would be for Twitch to offer just the slightest amount of incentive over other platforms for creators to prioritize Twitch and ultimately siphon viewership to Twitch. There’s probably some reinvented metric for this but it is essentially just Pay-Per-View(er).

For someone just starting out, doing what I wanna do, I prefer Twitch for the better tools that enhance the viewer experience and the better discoverability within my own niche. I think KZfaq will still be an important tool, especially as I get more serious about creating, but I have experienced much better growth on Twitch. So, it'll be my focus for now. Creating there feels more sustainable for me because that's where my community is. I'd say to anyone starting out that it's important to go where you see your community is. As I grow, I'll start to take advantage of both, because it would be silly not to.

biggest issue to me is that youtube streams are just completely invisible. Like I literally have no clue who is streaming right now. I don't understand why Twitch would be making big signings. They're the most mature of the streaming services. They don't have much to gain from trying to keep talent. They already dominate the market share, especially since it is the place to develop as a streamer over the other sites. With their budget being so tight, as much backlash as they may receive, they don't have value to gain from spending more money or appeasing streamers with prime. I understand there may be a bit of a migration, but I still think Twitch will dominate the share, and their financials will probably improve by year end due to cut cost, which the end goal as a mature industry player is to balance the financials. I personally prefer youtube, and never have used Twitch, but I think from a business perspective what Twitch is doing is the right decision. However this does depend on how their market competitors respond, especially if youtube or someone magically decides to upheave their service and make it friendlier to use.

Now, everyone is back outside and not trapped watching live streams all day and all these companies have to cut down in size. It's sad for the people that lost their jobs. I have a pretty niche observation: 9:50 PUBG is bigger in Korea than anywhere else. If all Korean streamers move from Twitch, i wonder what this means for the rest of the PUBG category? Because the thing is, it looks like even Korean viewers won't be able to log in to their accounts anymore, so genuinely a bunch of viewers are going to disappear from this category. It's a weird situation where streamers who play the same game but in a different language probably don't know what to expect. I guess it depends on how much overlap there is between your language and Korean? English speaking streamers might see a dip in numbers, but Spanish speaking streamers not so much. Which then begs the question, is this good news for the Spanish-speaking PUBG streamers, since their english-speaking competition will get nerfed a little bit by the abscence of Korean viewers?

I honestly find it insane they are hurting small streamers in order to give the rich ones more money... only something like 0.01% can sustain themselves with streaming to begin with Quick math: Around 40% of viewership is from NA or Australia the only places with prime subs not changing The rest (Even Europe minus UK at $1.80) are going down by 40% or more Based on 6.9million tracked subs 25% are primes So depending on where your viewership is from you might lose over 10% of your twitch income Big streamers are often NA and stream for NA hours so they are affected less You need around 50-200 average monthly views to make a living Now if your viewership is from areas affected by this change you might need double (streamers location doesn't matter, as it's based on the prime buyer) so streamers are even more likely to stream at North American times

@@dongordon2754 Even if it's just by proxy it's still happening Only around 40% of viewership is from USA, Canada and Australia the unaffected countries Other countries even the whole of Europe (minus UK at $1.80) is down by 40% up to over 90% With around 6.9million tracked subs 25% are prime (7% new and 18% resubs) This isn't even spread evenly as some streamers have more local viewership, but still most streamers are losing close to 10% of their twitch income And streamers around 50-200 monthly average views barely make a living (even if they do merch, sponsors and or youtube) Now you might need 70-300 or even more depending on where your audience is from Where does that 10% loss go? Well the place where most of the subs go too which is in the pockets of the over 100k earning streamers who just got a nice increase in their cut to offset the new change (which doesn't affect many of them as much as the big streamers tend to be North American and have a bigger portion of their viewership from there)

Hey Lud! One thing you forgot to mention with that Plus Program, is that it is now available to Partners AND Affiliates. There is also a 60/40 split that is MUCH easier to get (100 Plus Points). I do agree that the streamers that aren't able to make that (myself included) will be negatively affected by the fixed prime model, however making it this much easier to get a higher rev split should definitely help offset that bump.

Said that this is really bad for creators from other countries especially in the global south so it really sucks, many people that stream from those countries and manage to make a living might probably be questioning live streaming altogether. Also this will create a larger competition for the English speaking market. It's more likely that new streamers will look more into building an English speaking community because it's just more valuable now. This might've been a response to the massive Spanish and Portuguese speaking communities. Really really unfortunate. Edit: the prime change doesn't mean twitch wants to kill prime, it means exactly the opposite. They recognize prime is a huge viewer incentive and people were probably only using prime without actually using standard subs, that's why the change happened. It only means they value prime a lot as a viewer attracting tool and this points to that not changing anytime soon.
