GE Samsung Fridge Repair! No Lights No Power No Worky!

We went out of town for a week and returned to a Non Working Fridge. While we were out of town I learned that our area had received many power surges from some Big Storms. This is what I found out!

I’m so glad I found your video, I have an Electrolux, also made by Frigidaire and all the components look the same, except for the main board which is under the frig. Same things happening, which is nothing, it started with ice freezing over and while I was defrosting it, I think water ran out the bottom of frig onto the main board that’s under the frig and probably shorted it out. I didn’t see anything damaged, but I have not checked the top of frig, which I will see if anything changes, if not guess I will be buying a main board.

Good job buddy... Your wife is a lucky women. Guys that knows how to fix stuff are getting thin in the ground. And your helping save the environment to because stuff that you can fix don't end up in the trash when it's can be fixed and has years of life still in it.. 😁 and your fridge still looks new and so clean inside... Makes me think that I need to give my one a good clean.. 🙄

Hello thanks for this video as I had this just happened to me. You're right not much info on the web. One question, did you test the control board for power? Looks like the ice maker is on but nothing else. I just want to make sure I cover all basis before I purchase a new board. Thanks for your time.

So my Samsung just went out and I looked up what to do on KZfaq and I found this video. Pretty informative video and I'm glad it all worked out. But after I watched this I took off the back panel and unplugged and sprayed air in a can into all plugs and ends and plugged it all back in and it worked. I probably just reset something somehow, but it makes me wonder how much money these technicians make when all you have to do is stuff like that sometimes

Yeah I got a GE fridge like that for free to fix, needed a new power cord, and some other small wiring fix. Was a mess inside as whoever cleared it out didn't clean it. Shame I didn't get to keep the fridge, but it went to someone that needed it.

I have a GE frig too. Unplugged for cleaning, I plugged it back in and didn’t work. Lights on but nothing else. I fixed it by unplugging the main board and replugged the board and everything worked after a couple of hours.

At any of the big box stores there is a product called Contact Cleaner. It is in a spray can and it leaves no residue and dries quickly and cools down whatever it comes in contact with. It is used to clean electrical parts. Make sure it says that it leaves no residue. I have sprayed this on electronics and miraculously brought them back to life. If I suspected the main board, I would have removed it and cleaned both sides with this, than reinstalled. Product costs less than ten bucks, and always comes in handy.

Thanks Bo! Yeah I try to throw in a few different videos from time to time! That in the top right corner is for a filter if you use the ice maker. We have it capped off since I havent put in the waterline for it lol. Maybe one day😆 Yup, I served 6yrs in the AF. Kinda jacked up my back and got out. No war time or anything, just a hard worker fixing jets and stuff. Was a great time for sure!!! Cheers 🍺🍺🍺

Thank God for Trusty Rusty, in peace times, it does a great job of holding all the beer we could drink, in war times, it holds government cheese. LOL! jk, but seriously, we'll have to pour one out for my grandparents in gratitude for the wonderful fridge that hath been bestowed upon us! Also, perhaps show ol' Trusty Rusty some love by replacing the rubber gasket thingy's and a nice plasti-dip coating.....????? I think she deserves it. Lol I dont remember that ep. I use to watch that show. Yeah I get that the company needs to make a profit ect. Im just cheap. I really didnt want to call them in the first place but did cause I thought they had a more indepth inspection of the boards. I did a lot more in my inspection lol.

Pink bubble wrap is usually said to be anti-stat coated. I've never tested it, so it would be cool if you did a continuity test to see if it is conductive.

It'd also be a cool cross-over if you sent the failed board to Big Clive for a tear down test. 😛 But of course he's in Glasgow for the military tattoo at this time of year. Plus, it would cost about $20 to send it to him.

Exact same scenario but on a sub zero. Sorry if this question was answered in comments already but do you think you even needed to replace that front control panel? I’m thinking no, in my case that part costs much more than $29. And my search for a new control board is proving difficult because there seems to be tons of different part numbers for the board from every little revision to it over the last 12 years compounded by it looking like there were several makers of the boards so determining compatibility is Difficult to say the least and I can’t help but get frustrated looking at this pristine control board I have now and knowing it’s probably just one failed component I could easily replace if I just knew which it was - I would imagine that there is a certain component that is likely the culprit when you know your board failed following. A power surge and so that’s my latest hunt im on. Finding your video did renew my faith that I am on the right path so I really appreciate it!

Did you check the the fuses on the boards? Sometimes they look like there good but are not. A simple bypass will check that.

Just my lights in the fridge part went out and blew. I have replaced bulbs but no light. Everything else works perfectly

I have a GE fridge, bought brand new. The freezer light works intermittently it works one day and the next day it doesn’t . 2 tech visits and a new switch and led later, it still the same. What could be the problem? Could the motherboard be bad too? The freezer and refrigerator cools my food fine its just the freezer light that is bad, I think I got a lemon refrigerator.

And a strap! An AF buddy of mine back when we were in Okinawa in 2004ish hit a tree (kinda t-boned the tree lol) with his skyline and smashed it all to hell. Undrivable from a bent frame, fender and door. Few days later we had it back and driving from a big ass hammer and a cargo strap LOL. Good times over there!!!😆💥⚒🔨

Man, u just sold my house and I should have kept the fridge-washer-dryer. I forgot about his many friends have had “main board” issues with these appliances and the ridiculous repair costs. My very old top style washer and dryer always worked, I think I fixed the dryer twice with a $6 part each time. If it was a surge I would check the relays, one may be welded shut from an arc. If you fix the old board with a cheap relay then you can sell it or have a spare for next time. Yes, you will probably have a next time. Now I have to find a new house that didn’t go to fancy on the appliances that will just work like I had in my house that just went into contract. Errrr.

Yeah its crazy what some of these parts can cost! I still have the old washer and dryer as well and have also replaced a few $6 parts and they continue to work. On the washer it was a coupling from motor to agitator and dryer was a thermal switch and a bearing on the motor. I did replace the motor but it was super cheap. I did ohm out the relays for that reason but didnt find anything stuck closed but one could be stuck open I guess!

I held down some buttons until it changed but not sure if that actually did anything since my board was bad.

@@AveRage_Joe Thanks. I ended up sending back the main circuit board and getting a power board being that I wasn't getting any power at all. Turns out that's all I needed. Easy peezy!
