Doc reviews the U Shaped air conditioner after one year of testing. Impressed with it he bought two more units and shows them as well. These units are extremely quiet and can cool a single room down to 67 degrees. Great AC unit for bedrooms as it's very quiet.

I first saw the u shaped ge unit from Doc’s last yrs video. Just installed a 12,200 & a 10,300 btu for a relative. My relative is very happy with them. I replaced two 17 year old units, hope the new ge units are more efficient. & save him some $$. Thanks Doc!

Bought an 8300 unit 2 years ago and it’s great. Looked into adding an AC unit to my central heating and the bids came in from $8000 to $10000 and that’s just for AC not for new furnace! So, I bought this at $450. You can still see out the window and it’s much quieter than the regular units I’ve used. I’m likely going to buy for my master bedroom as well. I can get three and cool my entire house for $1200 and then I can only cool where I need to and save money as these are MUCH more efficient than a central unit. I don’t notice a change in my electric bill. 😁

We had 1 window unit in the main area, of a 3 bedroom home in the south. To be fair it did take the edge off the heat, and it wasn't as hot back in the 70's and 80's. Even when we got central air, my dad would keep it at almost 80. I can remember visiting family up in Chicago area, the house we always stayed at had no AC. Very cheap old woman, who was going to take every last penny with her. And it was miserable in her house, stuffy oven.

I did some research on these saddle type units and while the Midea units were a better buy, I settled on the GE Profile due to my window design and installation options. Wanted the 12K BTU model but ordered it twice on Amazon, which cancelled both orders without explanation. I found a 10.2k BTU model online and it was delivered in 3 or 4 days. While my windows were considerably wider than the specs, all I had to do is buy some foam insulation materials for the wider installation. Needed this for supplemental cooling on days over 100 degrees here in TX....and has worked well. Nice to have in case of general power outage as well. May replace portable units I have for emergencies.

I have heard about these units and researched them. They get top reviews. Here in the US they can be very expensive running into a few thousand dollars each. But I also found that units are available direct from the manufacturers in S Korea for about $350 to $400 each. Huge savings. It appears there are two main manufacturers.

I recently bought two 12,000 btu models for $300 at Costco to serve as emergency backups for our 2 central A/C units. They sometimes take a week to get repaired so being here in Florida, need something to tide us over, plus they would be good in a SHTF situation should the supply chain break down.

Make sure to use foam weather stripping around the unit. It's mostly there to seal around the window unit, but it will help with vibration. If the air conditioner is old, the rubber pads under the compressor may be dried up and rotten. I actually just used silicone caulk where the pads were, and it did a world of difference. Silicone is also quite heat resistant. Maybe, they make replacement pads. I don't know.

If you have a level, sit it on top and make sure it's tilted slightly down away from the window. If perfectly level or tilted the wrong way the condensation will flow towards the house. The instructions should cover how much tilt is needed. If that's okay, may need to see if the drain hole is plugged up. Good luck with it.

Now if they only made one with manual controls as the fancy electronic ones will be the first thing to fail rendering the unit useless..

You know a guy lives where its hot outdoors when he says 67 is cold in a bedroom. I live in Kentucky and keep my wondow unit set on 62 when i sleep during the summer, the room dips to upper 50s during cold weather

I find that 78 deg. f. is the right temp to sleep. 'T" shirt and a sheet.

Why a generator? Why not solar panels with a battery stack and a grid independent function? Yeah, it costs 5 times more, but the panels will always supply power and reduce the energy bill. Free air conditioning during the day....

I have the 8000 BTU one and my main complaint is that you constantly have to keep an eye on the quality of the water and keep it drained so it doesn't grow and mildew so it doesn't clog up the pump. You can't just turn it off and let the water sit for a few days.

question why do some of them say inverter on the GE unit
@steely_Bob
@steely_Bob Ай бұрын
Found this: Once the room is cool , an inverter air conditioner lowers the speed of the motor to save energy and maintain the desired temperature.

An inverter raises and lowers the cycles /pluses of the electric current ( 60 is standard ) to vary the speed of the motor. Maybe between 40 and 90 cycles a second. This allows the fluid output of the compressor to vary and raise or lower the rate of cooling.
