Thanks. In a follow up, I found that the fender bag isn’t great on the fender of a Rally on rough trails(fine on an L) due to the fixed headlamp. Bolted on would work, but I put it on my panniers instead. I also switched the panniers from XL to L. Both fit, but I found that I fill the space if I have it.

Morning 🌞 Really like your vlog content, you do a good camera coverage also. Just wondering if you've been out on a test with a couple of night's camping load. Not sure of your sequence of vlogs but wondering how the load went. Was there much lift with the front wheels. Still reasonable control off road. Also was this with the standard shockers setup. Did you change the rear settings. I don't think I will purchase new shock's but still like those panniers. If you didn't get a discount that would assume I'm out too. Hey thanks regards John from OZ.

@@johnwayne7210 hi, not yet, or at least not with camping equipment. I’ve done a trail day with 12kg in the panniers, mostly tools and extra clothing and didn’t really notice them. That said, I’ve since decided that I don’t need the XL’s as I’ll be doing short trips and have sold them on eBay and bought some L’s instead. I also found that I do need a wider dry bag to fit all my camping gear in, which will place a load higher up on the bike, but I don’t think there’s another easy way to do it. I’m waiting to get my upgraded forks back, so can’t do any other tests just at the moment, but will do so as soon as I am able. As for the cost, I don’t think they really discount them anywhere, at least not in the UK. There seem to be a few other brands at this price point, Kriega, Mosko etc. So I guess that’s the competition. I also expect there are similar cheaper options out there…. It’s just finding them. If you get Lomo bags where you are, they might be worth a look.

Great video thanks a lot. FWIW, I bought the Blizzards in size L 5 yrs ago and was amazed how much I could fit in to them. To see their real volume I placed a bin liner in one, then filled it up with water until it was full but still able to fully roll the top 3 times to securely close. I found I could get 18 litres in... Therefore 36 litres in total.
@PeakMotorcycles

That’s good to know. The XL’s were probably fine, but I’m not sure I’d ever fill them. The L’s though only slightly smaller, seem to be a better fit on the bike.

Enduristan gear is awesome and bomb proof. Been using it on my ADV bikes for years. One thing to note though is that the little elastic strap retaining loops quickly lose their elasticity and good looks. They continue to function in a so so manner but they really are the one item I would like Enduristan to improve on their products. For the rack pack you could make a simple plate that goes under your rack with four holes and secure the pack and the plate so they clamp the pack to the plate. That way you are not drilling holes in plastic and still have easy access to the rack if required.
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, good to know about the loops! For the rack, I did consider what you suggested, and then checked the price of plastics, and can get a new undrilled rear plastic for £17 + delivery, not worth buying on it’s own, but as part of a bigger order from Thailand it’s just about economical! The rack is pretty easy to put on and off when needed, and I’m using the Rally Pack as a lightweight option, so putting it on a 2kg rack+the bracket adds a fair bit, high up on the bike! I’ll give it a proper run out this week and will see what I can break 🤣

That bottle holder can be use for a Primus fuel flask - one on each side gives you 2L extra fuel... which is really nice for us 250L owners, who does not want a bigger tank. And as you said the weight is kept low. Also the process of fitment becomes easier after the initial setup. For me now, its almost plug and play 🤗

I’ve a few Kriega bags too. A US-20 and US-30 which I used on my Speed Triple 1050R. I have the Kriega Duo bags and platforms for my Ducati Scrambler and also the inner bag for my GS metal boxes. I had a look at the Kriega OS bags for the CRF but thought the shape and clip on/off might be a bit fiddly so thought I’d try something new. I think the build quality of the Enduristan bags is also very good and they feel a bit more solid than the Kriega US bags, particularly where the clips on the Kriegas attach to the fabric. I’ve seen some with torn off buckles because the shoulder strap was attached to the incorrect buckle. Top work on the congleton to Buxton segment. I started from Dove Holes and am working my way East. I think tomorrow will be Hope to Calver. Enjoy the ride!

Expedition ready! Good review. There are advantages and disadvantages to both hard and soft panniers. These would seem to be lighter than hard boxes, and the ability to chinch them down would give you less wind resistance. It’s interesting that you already have your CRF300L Rally. I talked to my Honda dealer here in Dallas this week. The CRF will not start arriving here until late May. I will definitely be putting a deposit down on one this week. Happy Trails
@PeakMotorcycles

Hi Allen, Yup, I agree that there are advantages and disadvantages; I have the metal boxes for my 1250GS and they are very practical and spacious and great for that bike. But that weight comes at a price and on the CRF I think they would look and feel ridiculous! Sorry to hear about the delays, though May isn't that far off. I guess you have an optimum riding season before it gets proper hot. I think I just got lucky with mine, and didn't know I'd be one of the first to get one in the UK (or anywhere...) Roll on late may and have fun on the trails! I used to live in Houston, and am a big fan of TX, but I suspect you have more interesting riding where you are than down in the bayou!

Thanks! I dropped Enduristan a note earlier, and they suggested I try the strap rather than the hooks at the back. I had a quick look and that looks a lot better so I’ll switch it before I head out tomorrow. I also need to cut the lower straps to length and seal the ends, then it should be super easy to take them on and off. (Just the two peg straps) If it helps, I cut quite a lot of video of working out how to tighten the seat straps, but I guess it’s one of those things that you do once per bike. I cut a lot! 🤣🤣🤣

My issue with this design is that at the end of the day, there's no quick way of taking out the contents from the bags without either a liner bag or removing the bags from the bike itself, which seems like a large effort. Mosko Moto's design, where the dry bag is in a holster and therefore easy to remove, or Kriega's system where the bags can be removed while keeping the saddlebag mount on the bike seems more sensible.

@PeakMotorcycles

Each to their own, though the weight limit for the rear carrier is 4.5kg, and that has to include the weight of your case. The CRF300L and Rally have a welded rather than a bolt on frame, and though I expect there is a significant safety tolerance built in there, I'm not sure how much stuff you can practically carry in a rear mounted case. 2-2.5kg at the most. That's probably enough for day trips, but if you need more then either a bag on the pillion seat or some sort of panniers will help. The overall limit weight for the bike is 162 kg, and with the soft suspension, I don't expect I'll be carrying a pillion, and even if I did, I don't think I'd have the luggage on. I'm sure there's a lot of folks who are using the bikes like this for day rides, and for whom even the rack is unnecessary weight. Ride safe and if you do get a rear case, I'd be interested to know how you get on with it. I've not seen any others using one yet, but the standard Honda rack will fit a top box, either the Honda one or a Givi one. Thanks,

Was that the post on FB? Looked very tidy. If it was, I commented there but if not, just check what it’s touching, and what it might hit if it could slide forwards or back. Also if touching the metal, it might be worth putting some helicopter tape on the frame to stop the straps from wearing through the paint. If it was the one from FB, and you have the rear hooks on the bolts, I’d be 100% sure that won’t come loose with a bit of stretch. If it will, find another solution, maybe by removing the hooks and looping round or even putting some eyelets at the back.

Good review, a total budget for the whole kit would have been a nice addition. That fender bag looks good for the road but off road it might mess up the fender if it's too heavy. What do you plan to use it for? It's toolbox shaped but tools seem a bit too heavy.
@PeakMotorcycles

Hi Valentin, Only 10% of the audience is from the UK, so I'm not sure how those prices compare worldwide, also I'm not sure if they will change over time (and I hope this video will be up for a while!). Prices from Enduristan UK on 29th March 2021 are Rally Pack, £53.79, Bottle Holster £21.52, Fender bag £37.16 and Blizzard Saddle Bags XL are £303.18. UK postage is £5.95. As for the fender bag on the Rally, yup, exactly as you said! (I have my offroad video from Wednesday to edit where I make this change). Essentially, I don't think the fender bag is ideal on the Rally when mounted on the fender. I had tools in mine and it was quite heavy. It started sliding forwards after a few minutes of riding on a rocky trail, so I took it off and put it in the panniers. I was riding with a friend on a CRF300L and because it doesn't have the Rally fairing, and the headlamp moves with the steering, the fender pack can be mounted much closer to the headlight, with both clips on the narrow bit of the mudguard. I'll be fitting my fender bag to the pannier without the bottle carrier. Thanks for watching and ride safe!

What size? Anything on the rear rack should be fine, though the weight limit for the bike is 162kg (less in some places) so with a pillion + riding gear for both of you, unless you are both rather light, there won’t be much or any capacity for luggage.

With this bags is it possible that the bike stays 2 seater ? Any recommendations
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 3 жыл бұрын
From a seating perspective, yes. The rear seat is accessible with the bags. I think you will have two other problems thought. The first is the footpegs as I used those to attach the lower straps, so the pillion might not be able to get their feet on them, and if they can, they might be kicking the calves of the rider. The second is the weight limit for the bike. Depending on where you are, it's rated for 150-155kg total. If you're a 80kg rider, 90kg in gear, and you're carrying 20kg of luggage, that leaves 45kg for a pillion in gear. So anyone larger than a small child will greatly exceed the weight limit for the bike. I'm 125kg in gear and with 20kg of luggage leaves only 5kg for the pillion. I guess I could take their helmet! That said, I'm sure you could take someone a short distance, carefully, but if you're looking for a travel bike to ride 2 up, I don't think it's particularly well suited.

Hi, I think the tricky bit will be getting the seat bolts back in. I expect you can do it, but perhaps with an extra pair of hands to lift them while the bolts go back in. You would also have to make sure they were adjusted for length first too as that would be tricky once they are on. Not a ‘no’ but I don’t think that would be ideal on this bike. If the seat came off more easily with a key latch then definitely.

There was some warmth, but nothing significant. That was from a days riding on mixed road and trails. I was more worried about the contact points from the webbing but that was all ok too. I’ve a heat shield that I’d install when/if I do the exhaust, but for now it seems ok.

Did you get the gold or black wheels? (The only extras I had on my 1250 were black wheels, Akra HP exhaust and the shift-cam width engine bars. BMW moved the spotlights from my 1200 and put the Vario top box mount in the rear rack. I have added the wunderlich ‘wing’ on the screen, wunderlich up and back bar risers, and I have the GSA pannier racks (which needed the GSA rear footpegs). I use it more of a tourer and it only goes off-road on trails occasionally. The 300 Rally goes off road far more 😁

I just went to the dealer with cash for a 2020 250 rally, he drew up the paperwork and said it would be 8,800 USD out the door. Are these people crazy? What are people giving for these bikes ?
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 3 жыл бұрын
Over here (UK) it’s £5k for the L and £6100 for the Rally, both out the door. And there’s no stock, and a waiting list so I guess they have no reason to discount at the moment. Not sure how that works in the US, but from some of the other comments it’s a similar situation, except stock is even more limited with some reports of deliveries in the summer. Give it a year and perhaps they will take lower offer. Once the supply chain is sorted out I’m sure there’s a deal to be had, but as long as there’s a queue of folks who will pay list, it’s a sellers market I’m afraid. Good luck, and I hope you find your deal.

I don't know whether you can do this on the CRF but on many ADV bikes you can run the cross straps under the seat instead of on top of it. That does give a little more room for sliding backwards,.
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 3 жыл бұрын
@@RichardReeve_K1W1, I think the problem would be getting to the bolts to refit the seat. If it was a key release, and you could essentially push it down on top of the straps. There are two bolts that I think would be hard to get to once the panniers are on.

What is your feedback after hitting the trails? Are the side panels badly scratched?
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I’ll let you know after tomorrow! My guess is probably not, or if there are any marks it’ll be on the plastics and stickers, and I’d probably choose that over having the extra cost and weight of frames. Let’s see. The trails around here are dry at the moment so I guess it’ll be dust rather than mud, but the trails are rocky so it’ll be a good test of using trail dust as a grinding paste!

Any reason you didn't put the straps under the seat? That way you'd also be able to carry a pillion if ever necessary. You never know, you might have to give a riding buddy a ride if his bike breaks down etc...You'd probably want to move them back a fair bit further for that though. It's easier on a larger bike like a 790. That CRF300 looks pretty small overall.
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 3 жыл бұрын
The seat bolts are difficult to access when the bags are installed, any adjustment is also difficult and there's various wiring under the seat which might be damaged by the straps. It's also a lot harder to remove them if the straps are under the seat. In the case of a pillion, the straps are pretty much flat on the seat so I don't think there's any discomfort for anyone to sit on them. There are two somewhat bigger problems; The first is that I used the pillion pegs for the lower fixings and I think this would limit the ability for any pillion to get their feet on the pegs. Even with moving the bags back to free up the pegs, I'm not sure where else you could fix them. The second problem is that the rated weight capacity for the bike is 150kg. Me in riding gear is around 125kg. If I have 15kg of luggage, then that leaves 10kg for the pillion with gear. I'm sure there are many (most!?) riders who are lighter than me, but if you're thinking of carrying luggage and then adding a pillion, mind how you go as the bike really isn't made for that, especially with luggage. I'm sure there's a safety tolerance in that load weight, but I'm not sure when you run out of suspension and risk damaging the frame. If I had to, I'd ask the pillion to sit on the straps and keep any 2-up + Luggage travel to a minimum.

@@luckyintervale might also be worth mentioning that I’ve since switched to the Yamoto rack (also from Bikerzbits, and saves 1kg over the H2C) and I also changed to the L Blizzard panniers from the XL. I decided I’d rather have them slightly smaller and add dry bags for more capacity.
