Sherry Flavour Thanks, Sherry! I enjoyed the GR20 more, because you have to climb a little bit sometimes, I liked those parts :). You’re also more in the middle of nowhere on the GR20. The TMB is more pleasing to the eye in my opinion (more variation), but you pass a lot of towns and a lot of people who are dayhiking... So not much solitude on the TMB :).

Watching your video 4 years later, as I am planning my TMB this summer. I'm amazed how your backpack only weighed 5.8 kg with a tent, since I've simulated putting all the gear I need (and I'm sleeping in refuges) and it goes beyond the 6.5 kg mark. Although my choices are minimalist, I'll try and reduce the weight even further, if possible.

@floordenil

Thanks! I really think it's worth the investment. The pack is 1.5 kg lighter than my former Osprey, and is really comfortable. If your other gear is lightweight (the pack can only hold up a certain amount of weight) it's definitely worth buying (in my opinion)!

Look forward to your vids!!! You seriously make me smile LOTS! Question, Kungsladen or TMB for a fairly new backpacker. I have friends that I have introduced hiking to and they want to do a larger trail next summer. Thoughts? I haven't done the TMB, so I can't comment. What’s been your favorite hike so far?
@floordenil
@floordenil 4 жыл бұрын
I would suggest hiking the Kungsleden first. It's longer, but more mellow. Also 'easier' because the trail on the Kungsleden is better indicated and you can wildcamp wherever you want :). If the Kungsleden is too long, you can only hike one part (the trail is divided in 4 parts). If, however, you like passing by some little towns on trail, you should hike the TMB.

Floor, what’s been your favorite hike so far? ❤️ is there one that’s affected you more emotionally? The Kungsladen has been one of my favorites (but I haven’t done all); New Zealand and the Tatra are amazing and of course the PCT. Also, how did your Duplex hold up to the weather in 🇸🇪?

you shouldn't stuff the tent like that. The material is made by laminating layers together, stuffing it like that, causes unnecessary folds and therefore fail points. The layers start peeling off each other. DCF should be folded and rolled tightly trying to follow the old fold patterns, that's why the sack that comes with is so small and not compressible.

I know a lot of hikers that hike solo but use a two person tent. More comfortable, although that isn't high on the priority list it's nice. There's enough room for your pack, and if you have a vestibule, you can also cook "inside" during bad weather. Also the tent Floor uses is extremely light for a two person tent. At the start I purchased a QuickHiker UL tent from Decathlon, which is considered "light" at 2kg, but compared to zpacks, that's almost 4 times as heavy. However the zpacks is also 4 times as expensive xD In Europe, you can also buy the Nordisk Lofoten 2 ulw for instance, which has the same weight as the zpacks however the zpacks including 30% taxes is 100 euros cheaper compared to the Nordisk tent.

Thanks for your videos. But it is impossible that TOTAL weight of your pack was 5.8kg. Only water and food in your video are weights more. I guess in total you came to 11-13kg, which BTW are amazing. BTW My backpack on GR20 in total full load was 32kg, from which 9kg was food, 3kg was water, 7kg was photo equipment. And the rest was gear (about 13-15kg). To be honest, I think it could be lowered by 3-5kg (the stuff I didn't used). And defiantly, you could leave ALL food behind, and take extra money. ;) P.S. You have an awesome speed during your hikes. Respect.

Hey! Pack weight is usually based on the base weight of your pack. That means it doesn’t include water and food :).

@@floordenil Interesting point of view. In xUSSR we calculating REAL weight of the pack before trip. Or maximum load, if it is several sections track, with possibility to resupply.
