@@tylerp0526 honestly, it is holding up really well. When I bought it, I knew I was getting a hell of a good deal. Since I've owned it, I've only washed it twice... and it's due for another (make sure you use a down-safe wash like Nikwax). I've had it in light rained before and the DWR (or Pertex material) didn't wet through to the down... otherwise I keep a rain jacket over top of it for hikes or neighborhood walks when it's really coming down. The down feathers are still fluffy like they're supposed to be. The only part of the jacket that's less fluffy is the bend of the elbows, but I'm not too surprised by that. I hope this helps answer your question.

I think it’s a huge plus how most of the chain outdoor companies, REI, EMS, etc., offer similar products to the big names in the industry at a greatly reduced price. I have a similar jacket like yours that I got from EMS. Same thing, 1/2 price, super warm and is just a great quality piece of gear! Nice vid.... you’re editing skills are on point!👍👍

You got a great deal! looks like a nice jacket for the price. It kind of looks big when put in its pocket. And not easy! Still a good deal for $108. Great thing with REI, you can return anytime if not satisfied. Happy thanksgiving Rob!

I got the same jacket (black) for $108 during the same sale. I love it! I’ve only ever had an LL Bean down hooded jacket, but this one is far better. The cinching capability of the hood is excellent. I’ve not had any problems with the sleeve cuffs either - as in, there haven’t been any noticeable drafts. My only complaint (if you can call it that) is that it’s almost too warm for hiking in anything above 20°. I work up a sweat really fast in it. For the price, it can’t be beat. I don’t need my clothes to say Mountain Hardware or OR on them, so for $108, this jacket kills it!

The Ghost Whisperer is a tried and true item for sure. It’s pretty steep on the $ side as well. I think the Magma is a bit loftier, but has 850 down. The Ghost has 800. However, Mountain Research is considered a premium brand. For the price, the Magma is hard to beat.

@@robpelton I will check that out. I had a couple Ghosts but sold them for the cash when I needed it but as for now I found the Cotopaxi Fuego and its great. More water resistent than the Ghost and only about 3 oz heavier. I'm really not too much of a ounce counter so I don't mind some weight.

Hey Nathan! This jacket has been my “go to” for cool/cold trips. It’s such a welcome friend in camp. I also use it in everyday life as well. I haven’t experienced any down loss. No rips or tears at the seems. It’s been fantastic. I’m a fan. Thanks for the question!

I believe this specific model is discontinued, but there is a version 2 out now. Let me know how the search goes! Coldest I’ve been out with it, 12°.

Checking out your review b/c there is a magma hoodie 2.0 on clearance on Rei right now - 850fp and Pertex mini ripstop shell. Really want it as a lightweight jacket option for our cold ny weather but hoping feathers don’t poke out or no tears happen. Is the Pertex mini ripstop shell good? As warm as a 650fp down? Thx for showing the thermoball - was checking that out too but i don’t think it’s rated for the cold i need it for, plus it’s only 13g PrimaLoft synthetic

Oh man. I’ve been using this jacket on all backpacking trips in addition to daily. So far, I haven’t had any tears or down leakage. Which is surprising. I do baby my gear though. Haha. Thanks for watching!

Hood looks kinda big/loose and I've read some reviews claiming very little down in the baffles...but $180 for an ultralight down jacket with that many features is just too good to pass up. That sale was short and ended before black friday even started. Lucky you.

The hood fits just fine once it’s cinched down accordingly. There must be plenty of down cause I over heat pretty easily in it! Haha. That sale was very short, but it was $108.00. Could not pass up. Thanks for watching!

So far...awesome. It hasn’t leaked a single feather and it’s warm. Almost too warm as I run pretty hot anyway. It also seems to block the wind very well. I will say, if this jacket was never discounted, I’d buy it anyway. Thanks for watching!
