My money is Del's death being canon. There are so many things they left open for JD to further explore in books, comics, and in the next game. There really isn't anywhere to take Del's character, and we don't need Marcus to lose ANOTHER person he loves. I felt more emotion when he learned Del died because he knows exactly where JD's head was at, because he went through the same shit when Dom died. Edit: Del was also the comic relief, and Fahz is clearly set up to be the comic relief for the next game.

The reason I think JD is going to live is they left so many plot points unresolved with JD, and there are more directions they can take his character. The guilt of being chosen after everything he did, losing his best friend, wondering why Kait chose him and not Del after everything he did, etc. Del's character has nowhere to go, he was the comic relief and it looks like Fahz is taking that role now.

Yea they did, This kind of quality is super rare in games now days. This is how you make a proper AAA game that also takes the core fundamentals from Gears 4 and the rest of the Gears games and improves and expands on it.

In Mass Effect 3's original script, the player would have to fight and indoctrinated version of the person they let die in Mass Effect 1 in Virmire. They will probably do something similar in Gears 6 and it's gonna be amazing.
