7:43 This is what I like most. The devs got more time to think about the backstory of an environment to create a more logical exlanation that looks stunning.

UE is a great remake but MS should consider giving gears 2 and 3 a "simple" frame rate and resolution buff. Gears 3 MP at 60 fps would be amazing.

While UE is a good remaster and you can really appreciate the work put into it, the original game's art style seems to have been mostly lost, as such, I prefer the original more.

i like the 360 version more. the picture seems more bleak and raw, i even like the old weapon firing effects more, it fits better into a setting of a world gone down the shitter.

As much as I'd like to play this one, I'm new to the series. I feel like going from this, then back to the 360 version for Gears 2 would be way too noticable of a difference. This seems like the kind of thing you'd want to play after you've already finished the series.

They moved to something like the Gears of War 3 lighting. That really hurts it for me. The original is much darker and in keeping with the horror setting they were going for. Other than that, it's mostly a lot better.

There was per object blur in Gears 1 and this remake, the thing that's missing is skinned motion blur.

Im glad i bought ue, it reminds how great gears is even today. What i still think its great is the coop function sometimes i didnt even notice a player had entered the game since i often miss the message since im so in the action in my knoweldhe its never done like this in other games. Its only to bad im terrible with the mp have to practise more i guess.

Without starting a war, is there any point in releasing this on PC? The original Gears is already on PC so the 1080p 60fps high resolution textures and stuff is already there. I see there is some improvements yes but does it justify it over the original PC release?

Damn Act 3’s environment looks so much better in the OG. Watching this video on my phone I can barely tell if it’s raining in the UE. It’s more horrorish when it’s down pouring and fog creates reduced visibility. Also I think I like the armor in the OG more as well.

I hope I can get this at 60fps on my PC, not like I have a friend to play it with anyway.

I like the old real time cut scenes,it made the game feel more realistic,like I was playing a movie,controlling the star.Pre-rendering takes away that feeling.I rather get the original versions on pc.

I can't help but feel most people are basing their opinion on crushed blacks and extreme bloom effects. Taking some time back, the XO remaster is impressive and loyal to the originals. Turn your contrast up and brightness down to mimic the 360 more.

God damn. Watching this now makes me want to get this game, and right after I bought Gears 4.

Why do you guys at Digital Foundry like motion blur so much? It's one of the worst graphical effects ever created, that just makes a game look a lot worse when moving. If I wanted motion blur on my games, I would have bought a 20 ms screen. Fortunately on PC, there is almost always an option to disable motion blur. It's a shame that consoles don't have this option. That way players could get better graphics quality and improve frame rate a bit. I played GOW 1 to 3 on my X360, but this time around I'm waiting for the PC version, so I can have 1080p at 120 fps, anisotropic filtering with 16 samples and no motion blur.

Did they allow you to skip the unskipable cutscene before you fought RAAM in this version? (spoilers to a 9 year old game)

I agree the 360 version of the stormy scene has a bigger impact.

Nothing beats the original, never duplicated. I still like all the detail on 360, old vines hanging on the walls, more textures on the suits, ground/rock details etc. The UE is very clean clear and bland in some cases. While 360 remains dirty and gritty, much to crisp and refined for me. I have all 3 on 360, all are great. I also have the UE, but i never play it, just because, well to me it's lacking. It may be redone, and polished, but to me, that's not what Gears should be. I don't like and probably never will like any Mircrosoft Remasters. Leave that to Sony. Owning both has shown me this, a lot. Play UC Collection, you'll see what can really be done with 3 great older games, instead of one. I'm 40, so not a fan man/guy. Just honest, imo.

Those pre-rendered cut-scenes are going to suck for PC gamers. They will just be 1080p video, which will leave them blurry on higher resolution monitors. I don't know if they are rendered at 60fps either. Most games use 24-30fps video. It will be a disappointment for people with monitors that render at higher than 60hz either way. You then have the ability to customize the settings and ini files which will now not affect these scenes. If you want to turn off that repulsive motion blur, it will still be in the cut-scenes. If you want to reduce the texture bias, up the AA and filtering, increase draw distances and number of cast shadows, up shadow resolutions etc - none of that will affect cut-scenes which will be dramatically worse looking than in-game ini tweaks.

I like the new lighting but not the new color grading. Gears 1 is not supposed to look warm and colorful. And why is there more aliasing on XO than on 360?

Nice to see that despite its age Unreal Engine 3 can deliver this level of graphics. Oh, and all those missing graphical effects in GoW X360 version are present on PC version! Even more: better textures, more details, 4K60 and more in PC version of GoW!!!

When i play this one day i will need to remember that there's meant to be a blue hue (like there was a green hue on 360 deliberately) - and that it's not my monitor needing calibrated - 😁 Still pretty the 360 version for a ten year old console game though !

Don't know about the skybox - the blown out, yellowish original looked more realistic than the HDR-like blue sky.
