When I first got into Riding motorcycles, I waved at a bike in the opposite lane while riding in the mountains and missed a braking point by a split second and it almost cost me my life.

Congrats on that tracks fwd record. I think there’s something off on your power, if that’s a stock geared si transmission you are way too slow rowing through the gears. @GearsandGasoline
@GearsandGasoline 3 жыл бұрын
It makes 268whp. I think what isn't conveyed is how fast this track is. I spent almost the whole time between 4th and 5th gear here which is why it takes longer to get through the gears, my top speed at this track was around 139mph.

@@GIZZMOTORSPORTS I know this is a nearly completely different question to what you're talking about, but how hard is it to swap out a gearset in a decently modern 6-speed?
@GIZZMOTORSPORTS
@GIZZMOTORSPORTS 3 жыл бұрын
@@LazerLord10 its pretty much the same as any of the older honda 5spd stuff. And not too different from any other manual trans. The cool thing about hondas is there are a few different oe transmissions you can pull parts from and the aftermarket does make custom ratios. I believe for the K series the one thing that will cost more is a second gear change, also needs a new mainshaft. What Ben could do here is space 1-2 or even 1-3 a little further apart and tighten up 4-6. Would probably in most situations, everything short of a top speed run.

This is why every racer knows not to celebrate too early. Biggest lesson learned here and for others that will race and read this comment. Celebrate when your speed is 0mph/kph at the bay, no reason to get emotional when your car is going 100+. Emotions need to be at the bay and full attention on the track, plus never assume that the car will react the same way as it did the first time it took the turn, every second on the racetrack decreases the capability of the car as the brakes fade/tires wear out/fluids heat up/human error increases with increased consistent stress. Glad youre a ok, and glad nothing major occurred than a few fender bends, but lesson needs to learned without anything serious thankfully.

You’re doing great, but Ben, please don’t celebrate like that while on track. I know it’s good for the KZfaq views, but that celebration, that lapse of concentration is what caused you to crash. I’ve shaken my head at other KZfaqrs doing it, and I was honestly doing it when you did it... and then you went off. I think you’re already pushing yourself very hard in your first year of competing. I personally think you’re focussing too much on car mods, and not enough on driver mods. I think the car has more power and speed than you’re comfortable with. I really don’t mean to bring you down. I say this out of concern. And I also want to make you aware that as a popular KZfaq channel, you’re an influence to a lot of people. My advice as a race car driver to everyone starting out: take a car, do safety and suspension mods, but don’t touch the power. Learn to drive that car to the limit comfortably, and then think about power mods. You don’t need to win prizes or break records in your first year of competing.
@jdecks23
@jdecks23 3 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. That's great candid feedback. (Remember, feedback is a gift!) It's no joke, celebrate when you get into the pit safely and park in one piece and take a deep breath (even if it's just a personal win not a track record :)). It will seem like common sense later. Distraction is one of your worst enemies on the track. I'm guessing I'm probably only 7-10 years older than you Ben and I'm certainly not a race car driver by any means. However, it's just enough age to see the faults watching you compete this season. Winning should be a secondary award to getting out there and safely and cleanly pushing yourself to a new limit. If anything, that personal accomplishment (especially without breakage) means way more than the trophy or recognition. Ben you are modest and down to earth, but this should be an opportunity to grow and mature even further (Look up the farmer and the horse story). You've been overly focusing on winning, remember the car hobby is a marathon not a sprint. My first ever autocross event 15 years ago taught me one thing - the oldest grey haired guy was the smoothest and fastest at the event no matter what car he got in! Take it slow and take your time honing your actual skill, don't waste your time on a bunch of go faster mods that just upset the car forcing you to relearn how to drive it every time. It will be fleeting because in the end unless you are at a pro driver level competing bumper to bumper, it's just for fun and your own happiness.

Walking into a dangerous situation makes you a man. But walking into a dangerous situation fearing for your life knowing the outcome will be horrible, yet convincing yourself it'll be okay is what makes you a legend.

Good job man on the record! At least you got that THEN vibe checked by the tire wall instead of the other way around. It all evens out, keeps you humble, and you can throw a new fendy on before the next event! Keep setting those records!

I love the immediacy of your reaction "its okay its okay...." you were cool and calm despite the high of the new time - while spinning. Im not sure I would have the same composure

Duuude! Mad props man, seriously. 👍👍 The way you reacted was spot on and made me laugh. When I would have been soiling myself, you're literally saying "it's okay, it's okay" before you've even come to a stop lol Great work man! 👍 Keep it up.

I did the same thing on US 460 west heading towards bedford VA in my Z3. Glad to see your okay man, I Hit some salt changing lanes, oversteered, corrected it but the rear driver clipped the grass and sent me spinning the other way across the median and across oncoming traffic. No one was hurt and the car is completely okay other than some slight bushing wear in the rear.

On an old JDM Option video, I heard the coolest saying that holds true - a driver was asked why he crashed and he simply responded with - "Hey, even Monkies fall from trees"...... The best of the best crash, and as long as it's on the TRACK (not the street) you should feel zero shame, proud even!!! Proud, because you held laps like a champ and pushed it to the limits as you should.

Oh ben, what a magnificent run, it's the adrenaline when you broke the fWD record, you tend to push even more so that no one would come close to it. sometimes you should not let attitude overweigh your skills. but super run and looking forward to seeing you coming back even stronger.. i love that K swapped civic.

So glad you’re okay, Once the car is fixed you gotta get a mid/rear under brace and anti roll bar, the rear tire pointing towards the direction you turn at is lifting off the ground, keeping it on the ground will cause you to have more grip and Confidence
