Moose totally have fur, and they don’t “have” leather. Their hide only becomes leather after the fur has been removed, and it’s been skinned and tanned.
@jeffclark5268
@jeffclark5268 3 жыл бұрын
Which is cool and all, but, um, actually, a male moose is not a buck. A male moose is a bull moose, whereas a male deer is a buck (as are male rabbits). Never the less you are correct. Player is very confused with where leather comes from, or at the least how it is made. Deer have hair...which must be removed prior to tanning the hide to make leather. :)

Like WHAT? Part of the definition of a mammal is to have fur or hair in some form. And this also means never seeing hanging a deer head, even in a movie. Knowing the word "venison" and not even guessing most every leather HAS FUR ON IT is more offensive.

Cards against humanity is a bad game that can be a lot of fun with the right group but there are more better games that use this mechanic while still encouraging creativity because you have to argue your point - like Snake Oil and Superfight. But I agree - unless you can come up with one that is totally different, another slight variation on those games is pointless.

Being a spymaster is really tough, especially early on when a lot of the words are on the board. They rarely interconnect in the most natural ways, and always one enemy word trips you up. But definitely reveal the assassin at the end of rounds if you play again.

@Beatstruck
@Beatstruck 7 жыл бұрын
Though that wasn't his clue for Czech. He said only two words matched his 'coat' clue and they got both of them. How they would even think that there was likely a third word that could match a clue for two is beyond me - both Tail and Czech could easily have been the assassin. Travis gave absolutely no hint that there was another word pertaining to his earlier clue, so they were extremely lucky that was the case. Pretty much nothing more than a random guess. If he had said Coat (3), then yes it might have been genius if there weren't a rule against it.

@Blackthorne369
@Blackthorne369 2 жыл бұрын
@Riley Steidel It’s a play on words. Coat checks, in older and/or ‘fancier’ locations, i.e. an opera houses, or exhibits, would have a coat/hat check person take a patron’s overcoat, rain jacket, cloak, top hat (for gentlemen’s attire) et cetera, in exchange for a small ticket. The ticket would be exchanged in return for their items upon the patron leaving. At times, the coat check person would memorise to whom the coat belongs. Either way, this would free the patron to enjoy whatever is in the facility without a bulky outer covering getting in the way.

I've got three groups that I play board games with. One of them mostly plays strategy-heavy board games like Eclipse while the other two groups are more casual and would struggle with a game that complex. Codenames is one of the few games I have that is loved by all three of these groups. I highly recommend Codenames as it gets everyone involved to stretch their minds in unusual ways. My personal favourite moment I've had so far in a Codenames match was one where I was the spymaster and my team was slightly behind. I needed to find some connection somewhere between my remaining words but right when I was about to give up and provide a hint for one word, hoping the opponent would screw up, inspiration struck. "Mao - Three," I said, trying to hold back a grin. There were only four of us playing so when I see my partner confidently start with "China" I know we've got a hope to come from behind and win this. When I look at our opponents I'm shocked at first because they both seemed totally confused. If either of them had been the one on my team instead, the clue would have been wasted and my team would be doomed. My teammate takes his time but before long he correctly gets the second word - "Force". I'm starting to worry as he seems to hesitate on the last agent but I finally see in his eyes the moment he makes the connection and picks "Chair" to win us the game. We then spent about five minutes explaining to our opponents who Chairman Mao is and I found out that out of the two of us he actually knew far more about the man than I did, so it was educational for me, too.

Once I was codemaster, two of my words were "Cat" and "Box", so I gave the clue of "Schrodinger 2" One team immediately caught it and laughed. It was, alas, the other team. My team, "He was a scientist, wasn't he? Let's look for something related to science. Next clue, I did "Litter 2", and they got cat and box. So they had the extra guess. "Let's go back to the scientist"

The upside to Spyfall is that it's a FFA game instead of team-based. The downside is that playful chatter can be discouraged. Not always, but in basic terms, casual chatter is discouraged to avoid hint-dropping or inside references. The same could be said for Codenames, but the only real masters of information are the team leaders for that round.

Ok one slight rule thing. Code masters are not allowed to give any hints at all and aren't allowed to speak as well. So if a person guesses a word right it may or may not correlate with the hint given so the the part where John confirmed the buck thing is technically illegal.
@SamuelFraser
@SamuelFraser 7 жыл бұрын
It is definitely more fair if the game is played that way but I've found when I've played that it's really hard for the spymasters to stay totally silent. With the groups I've played with, I try to start very forgiving of slip ups like that and just gently remind everyone that providing 'extra information' like that isn't allowed. As we keep going and everyone gets more comfortable and more familiar with the rules I start to crack down on it. And although the rules recommend against it, when the spymaster starts with "It's a bit of a stretch, but...." or something similar, I don't even bother to tell them that's against the rules. It doesn't really give that much extra information, so if it makes the spymaster more comfortable to make those kinds of meaningless remarks then the game ends up being more fun, in my opinion, if a little less strictly competitive.
@jonathandpg6115
@jonathandpg6115 7 жыл бұрын
yes the buck thing and the czech but it's fine it didn't make much of a change and they where all new. But yes. Also sam youd on't have to stay silent but you have to act like every guess a player makes that is right is the ended one and that is it. I do agree that the rules are usually looser with newer players it makes it more fun. It's like in sports. You'll let kids get away with the rules a bit more because otherwise the stopage would be incredible, as they know how to play you become more strict.
@rmsgrey
@rmsgrey 7 жыл бұрын
The timer thing was house-ruled too. The official rule is that anyone can flip the timer on anyone and they have to act before it runs out. 90%+ of the timer use in the games I've played have been by a team on their cluemaster or vice-versa - only occasionally does the other team bother. When it comes to the cluemasters talking, my rule is that any discussion of their clues waits until the end, but they aren't required to sit in stoic silence either.
@eeDeen
@eeDeen 7 жыл бұрын
It really should be a rule that the other clue master puts down the cards. That would also get rid of the additional hint where they guess something and then the clue master has to take a few seconds to go through the clues before he puts down a card. Even if it was right the clue master didn't expect it so it wasn't one he was thinking about
@rmsgrey
@rmsgrey 7 жыл бұрын
If the clue master's taken by surprise by their team's guess, then they really should be paying attention to their discussion... Having the opposing clue master play the tiles (and do all the talking on a team's turn) is an easy fix, but, in my experience, it's more of a distraction than it's worth - the opposing clue master should be taking the time to think about their next clue...

"Millionaire" and "Limousine" DON'T go with "Famous"?! Really, Will?! 30:31 "So everyone gets a chance-" "To choke?" Of course, because Will is here. XD 41:46 "I'm willing to throw me dropping ANY sort of ball onto you." Really? No 'WILLing' pun?

I mean, damn. I get cities can be isolating from nature, but you could also have seen Bambi as a child,.Or a My Little Pony cartoon. Or ever had a mammal as a pet. I mainly find it humorous, but it's pretty strange, too.

Editing is a thing, and he was prevalent in the episode, because he ragged on everyone (including himself). That made him genuinely funny, and it's not his fault her reaction or defense wasn't there (she's obviously a smart and funny person to be invited on). If you need a step-stool to get off that high horse, let me know.
