Geena Davis...what a diverse actress. It's interesting how she spoke so lightly of the whole massage situation. Based on what she said she obviously was not familiar with him and the fact that he wanted her to lay down to use a massager on her. It's ridiculous what so many actresses had to endure early in their careers. It's no wonder why so many have issues with mental health and substance abuse. We look at movies and television for entertainment, but have no idea what goes on behind the scenes.

My favorite movie of hers is “The long kiss goodnight”. It’s a little bit cheesy but an excellent early 90’s action flick, and also one of Samuel Jackson’s earlier roles in which he was great, plus Brian Cox who is also great. My partner was once the president of the television academy. He was also on the board of the Geffen Playhouse. So, as a consequence, I had to attend frequent events. None of which either Geena Davis, nor Murray attended, for very different reasons. Geena enjoyed her time away from “Hollywood”, while Murray was never invited because no one liked him. There was one private event Geena did attend, however. It was at the Geffen playhouse, honoring Annette Bening. There were several stars in attendance, Geena Davis being one of them. She is as lovely as you can imagine. In every way. She was pregnant at the time and glowing from head to toe. She stepped on stage and up to the podium and gave a recounting of something she went through when she was still just a model hoping to break into the film industry. Something of which many hopeful starlets wrongfully endure at the hands of a powerful industry entity. She politely told the audience that she didn’t want to name his name. (As polite as the book title states) She instead “altered” his name. That “alteration” was “Mack Micholson”. The crowd roared knowing exactly who she was talking about. She spoke of how “Mack” aggressively tried to sleep with all the female models on the set she was working on. She told of how he came on to her with the first time having just brushed him off, and the second time replying to his ~ “So Geena, when are we gonna do it?” with her explaining how she respected and admired him as an actor and how one day she too, was going to be an actor and how she wouldn’t want them sleeping together to make working together in the future an awkward situation. Her tale was humorous. Everyone in the audience appreciated it and loved the delivery. She undoubtedly has many stories to speak on but in all politeness, does not...

Isn't she lovely, still being polite in her description of events, no matter how uncomfortable they were. Rather than being happy for her winning an Oscar, respect her talent, he assumed she must be egotistical likr him and felt the need to humiliate her. Would he have done the same to a man? The problem with Bill Murray is not his alone. He must have been getting away with this behaviour for years, without question or reprimand to the point he thinks it's OK and feeding his ego to the point he thinks it can't be questioned.

Geena is brave to risk poking the bear that is the cult of Bill Murray. I grew up in a household that loved Bill Murray and I will always hold his work close to my heart, but I can't say I'm surprised at this revelation- he always struck me as someone with an ego and insecurities, much like John Lennon, who was a hero to me. Both are incredibly talented and quick-witted, but unfortunately often at the expense of those around them. This behavior should not be excused because of their talent, and it's good to call it out. That does not mean that we have to disown their art or what it means to us.
@jondunmore4268
@jondunmore4268 Жыл бұрын
Well, don't go disowning Bill Murray's body of work yet. This is just one woman's attempt at rekindling her career by #MetToo-ing a male star much bigger than her. I'll believe that she was accosted by Bill Murray if she gives us a rundown of ALL the men that accosted her in her hot-A-List years. Notice that all these women that accuse men of MeToo, only do so to men of much higher status? Always punching up. Because punching down (to any B-co-star or man-on-the-street who accosted them) is not gonna further their careers. Ironically, the fact that they accuse higher level stars is for the same reason they were accosted in the first place - to further their careers.

@@SHARON.I yes, I assume you know who John Lennon is... he was a self-involved, insecure addict, he abandoned his first wife and child, and even hit Yoko Ono (an action he was deeply remorseful for). How many Bill Murray films or Beatles albums do you think the world would have if Bill Murray wasn't Bill Murray and John Lennon wasn't John Lennon, which is essentially what you/people want these days. Enjoy the next 50 Marvel movies for the next 10 years and soulless popular music on repeat, that's what we have now in a generation of people who are told daily to lock personality in a box and throw away the key. I mean, I'm just saying, pick one.

Bill Murray was an ok actor. If you look at Caddyshack, his performance was marginal. Ghostbusters: the same, nothing particularly memorable. He's not really the best actor in anything he does. John Lennon was a far greater talent. He's been gone 40 years, much longer than he actually worked, and his work is still well known all around the world!

A long time ago, late 80's, a good friend of mine met Bill Murray in New York. He had a vintage SNL portrait that his father had given him that had Jane Curtain, John Belushi, and Dan Akroyds signatures on it. One signature that was missing was Bill's. He thought he finally got Bill's signature when he handed him the photo for an autograph. When he got it back there was no signature, and his heart was broken when he saw that Bill just scribbled over the other autographs on the picture. Seeing how Belushi passed in 82, it was truly a jerk thing to do. Never liked him since I saw my friend burning the picture that was ruined.

@Nick Xero I don't know that there's much more to say. If I had known she was going to be famous I might have gotten to know her better but there was no evidence and I was a music student, not a theater student. She partied somewhat what some of my friends, but nothing out of control and I was a pretty straight arrow so I wasn't too much part of that. Her roommate was a bassoonist, rather petite, and I often helped her carry the contrabassoon case to rehearsals so I was down to their room, which was directly below mine, rather frequently, but I can't say I got to know her. I would say as a teenager her looks were actually rather unusual, not strikingly beautiful, she still had that teenage awkwardness, I don't think you would have picked her out of a lineup. Some theater majors never "turned it off", which was not the case with her. I know she worked hard. After BU she worked as a live model in store windows in NYC, that had to have taken discipline. I think she met Jeff Goldblum rather soon after getting to Hollywood and impressed him, he was a good contact according to a BU friend that went out with her. My own roommate did well too, became a movie producer, produced Madonna's Truth or Dare, eventually became vice president of HBO. I also spent a summer hanging out with Wynton Marsalis about 6 months before he became famous at Tanglewood, Mass. We were two doors down from each other in the dorm. Very polite, quiet if you can believe it, serious, spent a lot of time listening to his stereo. Very helpful to a hearing and vision impaired trumpet player in the fellowship orchestra we were in. These are all people who really worked to get where they got and totally unpretentious. I'm also seriously into target archery, something Davis picked up seriously and got very good at. I can tell you she was quite expert, and I coached the Puerto Rico national team.

Let's be honest, all three of those things whether he said them or not, are absolutely true. Meanwhile, Murray is a colossal acting and comedy talent. His role and what he brought to Ghostbusters alone is worth more than 90% of what actors do these days. The Charlie's Angels movies are absolutely forgettable, literally no one cares except whoever digs through the bargain bin in K-Mart in 2009.
