Quantum's Bigfoot line of hard drives, first released on February 26, 1996, prioritized storage capacity per dollar above all else. There were four generations of this line, including the 3,600 RPM Bigfoot and Bigfoot CY (introduced on October 14, 1996), and the 4,000 RPM Bigfoot TX and TS.
This video features the flagship model from the 2nd generation CY range with 6.06GiB (6.4 "GB") of storage capacity, originally costing $395 at launch (equivalent to $745 in 2023 dollars).
I can't recall off hand any 5.25" IDE drives other than the Quantum Bigfoots, and the CY 6480AT might be the highest capacity 3,600 RPM desktop IDE hard drive ever made.
DRIVE VITALS:
Interface: IDE
Form factor: 5.25" "low profile"
Capacity: 6.06GiB
Platters: 3, Heads: 6
RPM: 3,600
Cache buffer: 67KiB usable
Date: after November 1997 (45th week)
My example has one dated chip from the 45th week of 1997 (the only component with any date code; Quantum didn't put a manufacture date on the labels of these drives), hence the "after November 1997" date in the title card. It is also not very healthy with many bad or reallocated sectors.
Yes, I do realize they put 6505AT on the label, but the drive identifies itself as the 6480AT, so that's what I'm going with.
