I hate the Emperor, he was an ass hole. He was so easily fooled by wicked wives but never fully trust the only wife who truly loves him. This was a good drama, but I feel so sad for the female lead. Her life would have been better if she never married the male lead.

Mindful of the fact that this is a costume drama and not actual history, I would have liked it better if the costuming would have been closer to the 18th century rather than that of the late 19th century when the events are supposed to have occurred. The way the parts were written were somewhat problematic in that the Qianlong Emperor is completely gullible to the point of being almost incompetent and Ruyi and Hailan are essentially Sherlock Homes and Watson. Even the Dowager Empress is essentially a forensic detective. The way that many of the Imperial women are depicted as serial killers is also a bit of a problem given their limited education at the time and the fact that they would have entered the household as rather young adolescents girls who where attended constantly it does beg the question as to how they would have acquired the knowledge and opportunity to carry out the crimes considering that basically no one was ever left alone at any time.

So what actually happened to emperor's other sons? Chun had 3 children-2 sons and daughter. 3rd prince died along with his mother leaving his younger brother and sister-though she was married! What happened to the other son? Similarly Jia's 3 sons didn't inherited the throne because of her greed and obessed over her clan leader! Her eldest son became a duke and married! Her 2nd son was injuried and her 3rd son was Baby! It is said the other two were sent to dowers to be brought up under their guidance, what happened to them? Other than that consort ling had many kids Her first daughter was raised by concubine Ying as her own daughter! Ling was allowed to raised her first son that's the future crown prince and then she birth daughter and son! Also her two sons died! Her daughter was sent to raised by concubine ke and the son to dower! What happened to them?
