To me, it's actually sickening when the only gift he could thought of was a beauty powder. He knew how 'cold' the cold palace is that could destroy her beauty. Took a pity on the forstbite on her hand. No dude, her soul is the one that broken the most. You could see the tiredness and disappointment in her eyes, theres no love anymore. She gave up on the man before her. She felt enough of everything. I don't care how different that man built as emperor, that doesn't mean ruyi should tolerate his doings again and again. That doesn't mean that ruyi's pain isn't valid, that she shouldn't feel disappointed. Kudos for the actress, she actually brought this character alive. I feel hurt for her too. She talk less, but her gestures and eyes spoke volume. Her acting is oscar worthy. And actually, all of the cast in this drama all have superb acting. They did well for their roles. The palace setting, the costums, the make up, everything. What a great work, my forever favourite chiness drama.

For me, its a 50-50 for me for the Emperor's personality on how he handles these kinds of matters. You can't blame the Emperor because he shoulders the whole nation and even though he loves Ruyi so much but he is the Emperor. He is Ruler first before husband. Sometimes I really hate the Emperors or Kings in every ancient drama as how they handle the consorts within the harem but at thr same time, I pity them because they thought that being an Emperor means everything can be offered in their plates but at the same time, the position of the Emperor or King is a lonely journey for them as long as they alive.

No amount of make up can cover up the repeated betrayals to follow. Ruyi keeps a good poker face instead. He rules the world but struggles to protect.

The music of their reunion is so heartbreakingly beautiful!

I'm no chemistry expert but I was a bit horrified to know, ( if this film is actually based on historical facts ) that powder make up for noble women in those days had lead components in it. Love this series, by the way. Especially the leading lady.

The Emperor knew of the comings and goings of the cold palace, he put Ling Yunche there and knew of her making money, and knew the royal physician was seeing her. He okayed it all, he didnt just abandon her, and went to see her when she was poisoned and knew he had to hurry her out. These clips don't do the series justice. However he really couldn't just tend to her with so many on her neck and his stepmom talking about justice too. The ending though😔😔😔😔😔 I wanted them to win.
