This is the empress that Honli later wrote a whole book of poems as tribute. In her death he seemed to forget how schemeing she was...how many heirs & harem women died at her hands or her biding. He loved Ruyi so much in the beginning but later he despised her and then when Ruyi died too he ran to their place in the Forbidden City and weapt like a baby. This guy and that system was the ruin of generations of women and children.

@Aisha its understandable that she wasn't allowed to become his first main wife, especially in the name of politics. But the problem is much deeper than that. It was clear to everyone that he favored her over everyone else, which caused her to be the target of so many defamatory schemes until eventually his mind was poisoned with "which one is false and which one is true". Ruyi never betrayed him once, but after awhile, he constantly betrayed her. And of course, she was stuck with him, being unable to leave the palace. The ending was sweet, with him asking her if he can enter the afterlife with her (which we are led to believe she accepted), and he never took another Empress after her death (don't watch Story of Yanxi palace though, lol).

@Aisha I disagree that others would not have schemed against Ruyi if she was the main wife. Jia had a hand in the first empress' death. She would have been against Ruyi as the first wife too. She was going to be empress/her son the next emperor or die trying. She died as a result of trying. Most of the harem liked Ruyi as empress. She treated them well. She also showed she had no problem with finding evidence and punishing the offending members of the harem. Her failure to keep the harem in line was due to the emperor's interference in the name of politics and lust.

The way I hate the empress so much 💀 I hate that she bats her eyelashes and feigns innocence when doing the most despicable deeds. Atleast the scheming consorts were always quite obvious about their jealousy with ruyi

The empress had to control her expressions all the time. As the Mistress of the Inner Palace, she was expected yo be magnanimous at all times and never feel jealousy. Hence why she was good at hiding her emotions

關於字幕，有些意見： 1. 若譯成英文，皇帝是 emperor, 皇后是 empress，不是 queen. 皇太后是 empress dowager, 不是 queen mother. 英国的君主，国王是king, 王后或女王是 queen, 王太后是 queen mother 或 queen dowager. 2. 繁体字里，皇后/王后的‘后’，与簡体仝，不能寫作‘後’。

現在一堆錯誤的把外國的Queen的國王的另一半翻成皇后，正確為王后，明明君主就不是皇帝，哪來的皇，某個女明星與街道也許應該改譯成女王，而不是皇后，不過中國歷史上確實有一位皇后，她的字就是女王，那就是三國時期的曹丕的郭皇后。

她以為皇上不知道，她在皇上面前，大眾面前都是賢良淑德的存在，不是如懿無意弄壞手環給江太醫發現，估計連如懿都想不到皇后一開局就設計她跟高貴妃，連高貴妃自己都不明白明明為皇后顧前顧後，為什麼表面跟她那麼要好的皇后要害她？她除了對如懿因為忌妒到有時根本壓抑不住自己脾氣，要不然她再別人眼中很得體，她也拼命保持這個形象，無奈皇上早就知道，所以皇上說皇后這個位置坐的得真的得體～但是惡毒的心還是被皇上發現，等於她裝了一輩子都白費🤣

@@user-lo9sv5jp4h ：不，甄嬛傳裡對於宜修的劇情編排和描述比較完備，前期她真的是個賢慧的皇后，而大部分的劇情也有強調出這一點，只有一些私下的橋段才能隱約察覺出她不簡單，但如懿傳戲裡對於琅嬅的描述則沒有這麼完備，所謂的賢慧也僅存留在與嬪妃開會或太后皇帝的口中而已，但沒有具體的劇情來告訴大家她做了哪些事很賢慧得體，反而是有太多劇情在說她這個賢后當得有多勉強又常出錯，所以說到底還是劇本功力的問題。總結來說，這部戲想塑造出一個腹黑的賢后，但最後是失敗的，除非原著所要塑造的就是一個小家子氣短視淺薄的「賢后」。

On an interesting note: Basil seeds actually *can* affect fertility but there's a bit of 'poetic license' with this- Basil seeds only affect male fertility, and you'd need to actually 'eat' them at like a gallon a day to see any issues.

the "basil seeds" here doesn't fully relate to the original script. i grow basil myself from seeding to harvest to the end, collecting new seeds for next round, and my basil seeds are way smaller and darker (i grow both of lettuce basil and the narrow leaf basil for pho, yum 😝). the basil seeds here relates to the script "零陵香". if i break it down, lingling"零陵" is a place in Hunan湖南 province, "香" means incense, in this case incense made with herbs. centries ago there was a type of herbal incense made with perrin in this place lingling零陵, and this incense was named after the place. according to the Chinese herbal medical, if a female takes this incense 10g with rice alcohol each time and up to 5 times, she won't be able to get pregnant for a year. but this incense is a med actually for headache and waist pain, also can clear the vision. however i learned something new, good that i keep my real basil seeds in a sealed plastic container and put it somewhere dark and dry not touching it everyday 😂

I think the title is out of order. He asked her to remove the necklace after the other consort told him what the bracelet did to them on her death bed. In this scene the consort is sitting right across. She knew about the seeds and just stopped wearing it and would then get it cleaned out so she could wear it without causing embarrassment for empress.

please, the original novel had lots more of that, hence why some plotlines weren't included in the drama version one example (spoiler alert) being Jin Yuyan's 9th prince, in the aftermath of the fabricated infidelity scandal between Ruyi & Anji Bosang basically the culprit was Wei Yan'wan (already at Consort rank, but in the drama was still at Noble Lady rank), but Su Luyun was accused instead and bore the brunt of Qianlong's anger, in addition to his earlier suspicion of her supposed involvement with Langhua's death during Southern Tour

@@thatasiangirl0_039 well in "Empresses of the Palace", Noble Lady Qi (Zhen Huan's fake friend turned enemy, and the instigator of the Wen Shichu infidelity scandal) was gifted a rathrr plain-looking necklace by Yixiu (Ruyi's aunt) as a sign of her favor, and being the gift of an Empress, it was both obligation and bragging rights that she wore the jewelry every single day (even if it contrasted with _qizhuang_ , as evidenced by both paintings and photos where Manchu ladies wore no necklaces as daily wear) baxk on topic, unknowingly the beads were basically gemstone/crystal contraceptives
