In Japan some phones are made to always have flash and sound, because there's a big problem about panties shots there, so they make it so that the victim can hear and see the flash.

To everyone saying she is a Maiko: a lot of Japanese people will call her a Geisha when speaking to foreigners. They know she is a Maiko but they don't expect you to know the term- just like how Geiko is a regional term for Geisha. Also a Maiko is literally a Geisha apprentice so in English it is a "Geisha in training" most likely. Kind of like the sheer kimono jackets everyone calls a "kimono" in the west is really more of a "haori" in Japanese. Hope this clears things up

geisha (or/particularly maiko) is not the word, if you know its meaning, you want to glorify or fantasize the cultural activities associated with the term. Especially using the expressions like 'super cool' is not something I'd recommend .

@Nothingbutdust_

Yes! She's a maiko, but I think she'll soon be a geiko, due to the amount of white in her collar. She will become a geiko once she's had her erikae (turning of the collar ceremony) in which she will start wearing purely white collars from then on.

@@Oshidorinohina quick correction^^ Ayaha-san, the maiko dancing here, trained in Pontocho which has different traditions for their first year maiko. One of those is that they're maiko paint both their lips from the beginning, even as minarai, the stage before becoming a maiko^^so for her, the hint that she's past her first year would be the fact that her kanzashi, which would normally have shidare for first year maiko, is missing the shidare attachment^^

@jiggly puff The difference is that Maiko are apprentices while Geiko (The term for Geisha in Kyoto where the term Maiko is also used for apprentices) are professionals. Maiko are generally between the ages of 15-21 (with the occasional 22 year old). They are considered children in their kagai and are allowed to make more mistakes than their professional counterparts. Maiko wear Darari (dangling) obi and Furisode (long sleeved) Hikizuri (Trailing Kimono). They also have their natural hair styled while Geiko these days wear wigs ^^ If you have any other questions please feel free to ask ^^

A Maiko is more of an apprentice/ young woman (yonger then 20 y/o) learning the ways of the art (she is more known in Kyoto) and they usually wear a red collar. Where a Geisha is woman who already knows the art and passed the apprentice step (aka more experienced) has better skills, appearance and are over 20 y/o.

the amount of practice and time that goes into being able to preform this dance in front of customers is something no one else but a maiko or geisha will know. they train for years, dedicate their lifes, and have to be perfect right down to the tiniest hair. if you think the dallas cowboys are strict, wait till you see what a maikos day is like.

Beautiful. I had to do my research to know what that she is in fact a Maiko/trainee. And I absolutely love how her movements seem simple but they each have a meaning. And there's a meaning to the entire dance. As well as emotion that is shown in the movement rather than in her face. Love it

From what I have learned over the years by watching NHK World, I believe her obi is decorated with fans, each dedicated to a different month with a flower that blooms during that month. It is exquisite.
@moushimou3170
@moushimou3170 2 жыл бұрын
So a little off ^^ The obi features Gingko Leaves depicting flowers that bloom during the summer and Autumn months including Water Irises, Chrysanthemums, and a few others. Gingko leaves themselves turn the bright yellow and drop in late November. So this obi would only be worn during the summer and autumn months. Looking at her Kanzashi which features Chrysanthemums as well, this video was taken in October ^^

@@gardenlover9663 No worries! There are definitely all season kimono and obi that are quite popular, normally in the gokagai though there's a sense of celebration of the different seasons so you'll see different kimono and obi that reflect that, for example fireworks are a popular obi and kimono motif for summer, pines are all season but are especially popular for winter months so you can have the snow capping the pines. For gold and silver obi that are normally worn for special occasions such as debuts or the various visitations held through the year, they'll normally opt for all season as they can be worn multiple times a year and aren't as restricted ^^
