I don’t think you ever have to worry about your videos becoming too repetitive! Partly because your brain seems to be filled with an unending supply of truly revolutionary and unexpected printmaking ideas, and partly because even if you show us the same technique across multiple videos, there will always be some fascinating discovery, accident, or insight that you bring to your process!

I love the character of the lines The Tjanting in the print. Sometimes sharp, some fuzzy. Like the lines are somewhat 3D here and there. From experience I know that working with a Tjanting is not easy without getting splatters. I worked with Batikwax on fabric using potatostamps and brushes . Great invention Mark, beautiful prints !! Thanks for the video.

Your "experiments" with the gel plate are really right up there & on a par with with some really well known and quite famous artists. Some of your work really needs a gallery exhibition. Once again you create amazing art experimenting and pushing the envelope. You inspire so many to just see what will happen without worrying about perfection, even though you do pretty much accomplish fantastic end results in your artistic explorations. I believe that you have practiced and explored so much in your creativity that you do make it look easy, however, these videos really show that your experiment today has thousands of hours/years in the making to produce your art now. When someone asks you how long does it take to create a painting or print....you can safely answer... my life up until today! Thank you so much for so generously sharing your gift of art and the joy of creating the same. You are a treasure.

I recently learned that you can apply a very small amount of diluted dish soap to your plate and it will keep thin water-based mediums from breaking into little bubble-blobs... (They were printing with water colours!)

@emilyrosenzweig9946 Жыл бұрын
Oooooh can you say more? Apply it how? With fingers? A brush? Do you let it dry then?
@afasimpaur
@afasimpaur Жыл бұрын
@@emilyrosenzweig9946 the artist mixed a drop of dish soap into the colour on her palette at one point... At another she put a couple of drops directly onto the plate. She wasn't using a brayer but I imagine that you could... She seemed to be using watercolour specifically for the more painterly effect. Since soap is to reduces the surface tension of water, it makes sense that it would have a useful effect on water-based media. I suspect that a little goes a long way. I look forward to experimenting with the technique.

Thank you so much for sharing your work and process, you are so generous with the information you share. One idea for applying the wax to detailed areas, have you tried an Ukrainian egg dyeing accessory called a Kistka? They are very fine miniature Tjanting like tools. I’ve been blasting through all your videos! Really enjoying learning the techniques and also seeing the output . You are “the few, the proud” doing high quality art on KZfaq. Wondering if you’d share other art channels you find inspiring?

Hello loving and being inspired by your work. I'm a big fan of the Gelli Plate and experimenting with it. Can I use Oil Pastel as opposed to Crayons with plate? Thank you Tracey

Hi Tracey, oil pastel work really well as a resist on gel plate but, of course, they are a bit tricky to control for really fine lines and details.

Brilliant work, just beautiful. You are so talented. About how long did you let the wax cool before transferring to the plate?

Hi kathy, very kind. The wax cools so fast, you won't have to wait long.

Great! You can use an electric kistky (used for pisanki, Ukrainian easter eggs).

New subscriber here, just dropping a note to say how much I am enjoying your channel and all the experimental works you're creating. I'd love to know what you consider "must have" tools for fully exploring the gelli plates and what you favorite brands of media are. Thanks for such excellent videos!

Hi n. c. Beyond the plate (I've only used Gelli Arts), brayer, and some heavy body paints (Amsterdam, Daler Rowney Graduate work well) I think you just need to be opportunist. Get some wax crayons and oil pastels for resists, get a range of ppapers to transfer onto... You can great results with the simplest of materials : ) best of luck with it

Wow! That was so good, your drawings are just incredible. Do you have any tips on how to get that express look? My drawing feel tight.

Hi Anna. my best advice is stand up, hold your pen / pencil half way up - not in handwriting grip and, try to draw with your whole arm, not just your fingers and movements from the wrist. I can do a quick video if it helps...
