In this vedeo I show you how to create a charcoal image transfer on the gel plate. By using charcoal sticks and acrylic paint this is a simple alternative image transfer method.

Cool. Yes you can get some really interesting tones if you blend parts of the charcoal out, a little tip, if you rub some charcoal onto a separate piece of paper to produce charcoal dust, you can apply that to the transfer paper with a blending stick thing or an earbud, might be known to you as a que tip?? Anyway you can achieve some lovely soft tones to add dynamic range to your image. Let me know how you get on!

Thanks for your comment. In regards to the 2nd face, when I was doing this print, it wasn’t a case of “do I think this images needs something else?” it was more I want to see if 1- I can add a second charcoal transfer over the top of a transfer that has already been added to the plate and 2 - I’m always trying experiments to see what might happen and what happy occurrences might be achieve through these experiments. 🙂

Congratulations! You made the jump! Your video is great--very smooth! I love how the charcoal transfers look, as well as the torn edge. Can't wait to give it a try! I'm also really feeling the powerful imagery. It still feels different to me than your other gel images I've seen, most reminiscent of the man series, but so much more powerful. Keep up the good work! I can't wait to see what comes next!

Great video and well presented. There was actually a lot of good information, including the torn edges. Who would have thought of using vine charcoal?

Great lesson, have subscribed. I really liked the first transfer (the one using colour) and if you have time would like to see your process.
