This is a technique that requires patience. Watch how NOT having the patience messes up 'what would have been' a beautiful print. Tried to reproduce it. Got some nice prints but could not duplicate that first one! This technique could produce some gorgeous prints!!!

I think the reason that the details you applied with the posca pen did not come out was because they were buried under all the first layer you put down. What you put down first come out on top. What you put on last come out on the bottom....I learned that the hard way myself. Love your videos....you are so creative!

Exactly right!! What you put down first, is what you see at the forefront of your print. The reason some things show through on some prints, is because of gaps and transparent layers (Golden paints are amazing for this process). This is also why the reveal is so fun for me...you just never know how it’s going to turn out and sometimes it’s even better than I’d hoped. Worst case scenario, I can print over what I don’t love.

Always remember that you're working from front to back, so if one layer is opaque, the next one won't show through. I actually really love that the first print didn't fully transfer. It looks like a peeled wallpaper. Absolutely beautiful.

I'm right in the middle of cleaning a 450sq.ft apt, (retirement community ) for "inspection" on Monday...I'm 74, artist, love gelli plates, SO what do I do? I stream your fabulous video doing wonderful different things with a gelli plate, just for background sound........(I have stacks of art supplies, etc all over every surface, table, couch etc.....to "downsize" and neat-en up the place) ......And now I'm trying to figure out how to clear off table to do some gelli printing.....and downsizing just flew out the window. It did....I watched it waving bye bye. I need all my stuff, in fact I may need More Stuff. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Thank You for Sharing, lovely prints!

KZfaq found you for me and I am so glad! Your technique is new to me and I'm always looking for fresh ways to use what I have. Putting all the layers on the plate before pulling is different. I've seen many videos where they pull a print, do a new gelli color combo/texture, pull that on to the same paper, and repeat several times to get the layered look. I'll give your method a try. Thanks for sharing.

Great video, I love the colors you use! I’ve been making some multi layer prints too, and I found that if there were lots of layers I really had to let the final layer dry (after rubbing on the paper), and if it was left for about 10 minutes the final layer would be bonded and cured, and the whole thing would pull up nicely 🥳🥳Great channel, I just subscribed!

Really enjoyed your video!. It is so jam packed with helpful demos. You make me feel better because I have had the paper stick onto the plate stubbornly as happened to you. I had blamed it on the number of layers, maybe types of paints, or thickness in that area or the thickness of the last coating. But I see from yours that these don't seem to be the cause. You also mentioned a plate getting dry. I have addressed that problem by taking a small amount of mineral oil (from the drugstore) and rubbing it into a clean plate. ( I don't leave thick layers of paint on my gelli plates so I don't think that's the cause ). I wipe off the oil well with a non-lint paper towel like Brawny and then pack it away with its plastic cover and into the clam shell. I also have discovered that it is a big mistake to put the plate onto paper for a base, or to store the plate ...this pulls some of that sliminess out of the plate which isn't good. Hope this helps one of your viewers. I look forward to more from you as I LOVE your video approach and your style. Thanks so much!
@DeniseLush
@DeniseLush 5 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the the paper gets left on too long and that's why it sticks!?!? Who knows. Yes I have had some people suggest mineral oil. I am going to have to myself some! I've also been told baby oil.I don't leave lots of paint on my plates anymore. But that one that is dry, I had. And I do not store it on paper, just the plastic sheets that came with it and in its original packaging. So all that I am doing right! Lol Thank you so much for your comment and compliments! Hi Denise, I love watching your videos! Thank you. The first print - the bits of which that did turn out were totally gorgeous!! And I'm thinking that the yellow Posca paint didn't show up because when you pulled the print, the yellow marks ended up being under the stamped layer of opaque blue paint - it's a reverse stack of paint. Aah, and now I've read the comments below and see that Ruthie Miller said the same thing... but I'll send this anyway. Also, the Tim Holtz stamp set is Bitty Grunge. Extra thanks for your lovely work. Keep it coming!

I've noticed a couple of people using a solid clear acrylic sheet, around 1/8" thick and slightly larger than the dimensions of the gel plate, placed underneath their gel plate. The gel plate is centered on top of the acrylic sheet and when they want to view their layering they can easily pick up the gel plate and look at it through the back which will end up being the front of your print. It really helps visualize the layering, I plan to do this myself.

If you are finding your plate is a bit dry (and I know you don’t like cleaning you plates 😱lol) but do give it a good clean and then rub baby oil into your plate, leave it a while, rinse it under the tap and leave to dry naturally, this should bring the condition back! Hi there! welcome! So you mean print directly on a tile/coaster Or attach the paper print onto a coaster. You can gelli print on different surfaces. That first print would have been better done directly onto the paper. The difference in dryness of the layers messed up the mechanics of printing. The layering covered up details you wanted on top because it works like flipping a pancake. Next to griddle becomes top.

It can all be so finicky, its really hard to say what the problem is. That final layer has to be thin. It should completely cover the plate, but you should be able to see the previous layers underneath. And then put that paper down right away and rub. Sometimes you may have to rub a little harder. Chances are if you only pulled that top layer of paint, its because you used to much paint. You want all those before layers to be dry. Hope this helps!
