Gelastic seizures are the most specific symptom associated with hypothalamic hamartomas (HH). These are also referred to as laughing seizures although not all individuals with gelastic seizures present with a true laughing sound. They are usually brief, often lasting less than 30 seconds, however they can go longer - sometimes up to a few minutes in duration. They can be occasional or very frequent, with hundreds of seizures per day in more severely affected individuals.
Gelastic seizures can be associated with little or no change in consciousness, although making this determination in infants and young children can be challenging. Although gelastics may sound like laughter, individuals generally do not experience happy feelings, and most family members can readily distinguish the gelastic seizure from true laughter. Some individuals may also experience seizures that more closely resemble crying rather than laughing. These crying seizures are called dacrystic seizures and may occur with or without the presence of gelastic seizures.
Gelastic seizures can also be quite subtle. They are commonly mistaken for other conditions, particularly during early infancy, including colic and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Find out more about gelastic (laughing) and dacrystic (crying) seizures associated with hypothalamic hamartomas by visiting Hope for Hypothalamic Hamartomas website (hopeforhh.org)

That's not seizure activity most likely. That is unless someone It could be something called pseudobulbar palsy I think. It's where people laugh or cry with no reason and it's uncontrollable and not in response to anything. If you have not been diagnosed by an advanced practice person preferably a neurologist then your diagnosis may be wrong or incomplete.

Who to say she has it or she doesn't. That's not up to you. You don't know what she's going through. I hate.when people think your faking just.because it doesn't fit into what they consider a problem. I have health issues that are invisible to most but I suffer with a great deal of pain every day. When people tell me I'm fine it pisses me off.

Every couple of weeks, I get weird laughter to the point my eyes water but I’m not really laughing. It’s kinda scary, and I always have a headache after it. It lasts like 1-2 minutes. Do you get a headache after having a gelastic seizure? Does it make your eyes water at all? Thanks for your video x

I can giggles and laughed hysterically when it came! I got ecstatic epileptic seizure that can evolved to gelastic, complex partial and worst the tonic clonic! My insular cortex suffered an injury during my motorcycle accident in June 2020. Took almost two years to diagnosed what kind of seizures I'm having.

May I ask what they feel like? I believe I’ve had a few. I have temporal lobe epilepsy but the seizures spawn all over the place and wind up in the left temporal lobe so I’m wondering if a couple have originated insular.

@@TLEawareness feels like high on drugs. Feels like high on marijuana. All of a sudden I'd feel ecstatic like sudden rush of maximum bliss. Like oh my God I know the secret of life! Like being hit by uncontrollable joy, happiness at the same time. I think it is because the brain suddenly increased its dopamine uptake. My doctor thought I was high on drugs and ordered a drug test. I was restless, fidgety, laughing hysterically and my face even hurts coz of my tight smile 🤣

@@bobidderis3880 wow I’ve had a couple and your description is closest to my couple of experiences. I usually get Jamais vu and extreme horror. Like I’m in a dungeon and there is someone or something that’s not happy I’m there. The ecstatic ones felt like I was being pumped full of energy and maxing out and then I got the feeling I was about to learn the meaning of the universe and why I’m here all to just black out and forget everything haha.

@@ribbons8678the reason keto triggers it is because the biproduct of burning protein for energy is ammonia in the bloodstream which can impair astrocyte potassium buffering.

Can too much screen time cause seizures? Seizures in photosensitive people may be triggered by exposure to some of the following situations: Television screens or computer monitors due to the flicker or rolling images. Certain video games or TV broadcasts containing rapid flashes or alternating patterns of different colors.
