Do you find that the paper gets moldy? I love the idea of aging the paper. How long do you leave it outside? I wonder how the paper would react to snow. Blessings from Canada 🇨🇦

Hi Tracy, I'm in AZ so my papers dry out pretty quickly not a lot of moisture in our air, I can imagine if left too long without ventilation they could mold but I got out and flip them at least once a week so that would help in moist climates. you can also move them to a covered area should you have periods where the papers would get too much rain. Just play around with them, and see what works best for your climate and you can always bring them inside once you get a fair amount of weathering. And Yes snow works very nicely! enjoy :)

Where in canada are you? I am from the bc coast and I left paper out for several weeks last spring(wet), sort of by accident. It did not mold but it likely would have if the rain hadn't stopped. I would just check it and separate any clumps to avoid mold. Good luck.

Lots of great ideas here Robyn! Thank you for another great video lesson. Now that it is spring and we are almost to the point where it's not freezing at night, I am looking forward to trying out some rain staining. I have been having the best time over winter experimenting with staining papers with all kinds of things and making a few inks from natural materials. You got me started with the module on eco-dyeing and staining papers in your eight-class series this last fall. That series was EPIC and I am still unpacking all I learned there. I feel like I am really growing as an artist because of the techniques and perspectives I learn from you. So thank you so much.

Rain stain! you have quite a stash of papers there. Thank you for a demo, hands on gelli printing, ink and paper, yeah! I have been getting tired of you just doing collage. Most of the "intuitive collage" is just you saying I like this paper, and you love that. You mention layering, transparency, and texture, but you rarely mention contrast, balance, symmetry, composition, or why you really like a paper. I know it is supposed to be Intuitive, but I am not learning WHY you chose papers. My stash has been growing, as I make more papers, I really like your finished pieces and your style. I joined Patreon at $10 to get more tutorials, but the videos have been mostly just collage too.
@RobynMcClendon
@RobynMcClendon 2 жыл бұрын
Thx Amy for commenting, there are a lot of ways to look at Collage, My Patreon is designed at the $10 level to create consistent art journaling to help creatives build up their creative muscles collage is a beautiful way to create your visual vocabulary and learn how to have effective visual dialogues and that journey is different for every one. I have a 12 month program "ArtMythos" that gets into the elements of Art and Design for those who seek that kind of reflections see the links below in my Teachable Studio School, several thousand have gone through that program . My groups are about promoting confidence and effective expression. I taught 4th year students in the BFA program at the Corcoran School of Art years back and do you know what I discovered? That they knew everything about the elements of art but was unable to communicate ideas that reflected an individual style, what I share now with you all were the things that I did with them to break the mold of conformity and encourage freedom. I can't do it all on one platform so I chose to give to the YT community something that I see as lacking, permission to make mistakes, not be technical or overly judgemental have fun in a community that creates a safe space for healing and discovery I encourage you to get from me what I'm offering and other YT creators what they offer and together we create amazing synergy Happy Creating!:)

Hi Robyn! This is the first video I’ve watched with you, I’ve been following Susan (Suzieqmakes) & she’s doing this course with you, so I thought I should come give it a look! Wow! You covered a lot today & I’m not quite up to your speed yet, haven’t even made one gel plate image yet, BUT I do have all the beginning supplies, so I’m almost there. Here in Kansas, we’ve had crazy weather this winter/spring & I run the risk of having everything outside just blowing away in the wind. But I am intrigued with all your steps to aged papers! I really like how you use & reuse your paper & keep going back into the pile to add spots or dots to things! Thanks for showing how to blot up spots using other papers, it’s all so much fun. I’m thrilled that you give us beginners permission to tear up paper to create our scrap stash. That thought had occurred to me, but I thought it might cheating… (you know the stash police might notice me!) I’m thrilled to have found you & will enjoy soaking up your creativity & energy! Thank you!

Never would have thought to rain stain papers. They look great. I'm going to give it a try.. wondering how they will work out also with periodically going out and adding sumi or Seth's sprays.

"you don't want to mess up by being too perfect." Had to chuckle at that Robyn! pretty sure if I left paper outside it would be completely gone within a week. Probably be a lovely spot for mushrooms to grow ;)

I'm trying desperately to catch up on all of your videos. I take "how to" notes and when time is permitting, I work the lesson. Your rain stain lesson should work out very well for our Southern CA climate. Can't wait to see what happens to my papers. Thanks for a wonderful play day.

Hi Robyn, I make small bundles of old book pages and other bits and pieces and tie them up with string, hang them up outside over Winter. Have to check that they don't go moldy but a good way to age them. I'm in Tasmania, Australia. 🙃

I love this! Do you hang it underneath an awning or out in the open?
@badaliceandcharlie

@@RobynMcClendon out in the open, so it gets the sun and the rain. Also a good way to age fabric strips if you use them instead of string. Some of the bundles have been so nice I stuck them in box frames, with a vintage photo tucked onto the front.

@@badaliceandcharlie That sounds beautiful! I love the ingenuity, collectively we are all kindred spirits. BTW shout to Tasmania! I haven't been there but I've been to quite a few other cities on the "mainland" and I love Australia, hope to visit again soon :)
