The most popular request for a rig making video on the channel has been the Pulley Dropper or the Drop Down Pulley.
I haven’t fished with this rig before but it’s popularity sparked my curiosity and so into the workshop. After researching, looking and reading at many others online I have now made my initial version and will now use it for a period of time before making any changes.
As with all of my rig making videos I am open to positive comments, ideas and views which when consolidated should develop the rig.
Buying via these links comes at no cost to you but helps to support the channel and it's competition give aways.

Hi Mark. I should have watched this vid before commenting on some of the others. This one gets over the problem (which I see!) of having a very long trace before the fish feels the resistance of the weight. With Gamakatsu circle hooks and a much shorter trace it should work a treat. One of the problems with a long trace is that the fish can pick up the bait, taste it, and spit it out if it doesn't like it. Result is you lose the bait or blame it on small fish stealing the bait when it may be the fish of a lifetime.

This is a popular rig in the UK but has an inherent flaw and relate my fishes as intended. Some think it is a good ray rig but I think that is because for a very short time at slack water it can pick one out, as soon as the tide runs it is poor.

Hi Mark...this is my main go to rig and works very well. I prefer a termalink to clip on to the Gemini pulley bead. With other links you occasionally get the snood wrapped into the link. I use either a splashdown or roto clip on mine and don't tend to have any issues with either. Think you will find it is a very effective rig. 😁👍🎣
@seaangling
@seaangling 3 жыл бұрын
I am a fan of the termalink as the end connection from my mainline and is on all of my reels. I am leaning towards the Rotobait being more robust than Splashdown and has the benefit of the weight being fully locked in.

Meant to add.... Seeing your other replies to other comments it sounds like you caught a couple of tings on it.... How did you find the bite indication?
@seaangling
@seaangling 3 жыл бұрын
The only downside for me is the bite indication. It is a little bit muted unless the fish takes off so for some of those tap, tap, taps that prep you for a pull down might not be seen. I fished last night using a 5oz grip lead and caught some tings. The up and over bite indication was better but both rigs caught.

Great video And as said by others keep them coming. It’s given me an idea of using a pulley rig For uptiding from the boat . I normally just hang the hook on the grip weight wires but it does not always release . I thinking that it would be better to have a more stream line rig set up that will release every time.

Nicely presented video as always. One thing to think on, if you cast up tide and let some line out to allow the wires to work, I think the snood would slide towards the pulley bead in the tide but still be close the bottom. Its still a nice rig and I would still use it.

All the best..I use mine with trident components...only difference i do is add 3inches of shrink tubing on my swivel that attaches the the Gemini bent clip so when the dropper drops..my snood doesn't get tangled on my lead if using grip leads. Another good video Mark, I watch some of the channels you have mentioned and you should not put yourself down in comparison. I am learning so much from you and enjoy making the rigs. The problem I had with this rig was the 100lb swivel; after I cast out the line was very slack and when I recovered the line it had all gone??? Just the termalink on my line! This happened three times in a row? I then removed the swivel and connected the termalink direct to the aero pulley, no more lost rigs. Did I do something wrong? Also did you try the braid straight through with the canon?I'd be interested how you got on.
@seaangling
@seaangling 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t experienced a lost rig through connection of a swivel to the aero pulley? 🤔. If you had lost the rig from either end of the swivel I could understand the loss of confidence but to lose 3 rigs from the same connection point is baffling. A lot of rig making and adjusting rigs can be split into performance & confidence. What works for some may not work for others and rigs earn their place in your tackle box through fine tuning and confidence. That is possibly one of the most satisfying aspects when it all comes together and you achieve your target. I did a season with braid straight through using the canon and fixed spool reel, I thoroughly enjoyed this set-up but if you know me at all I like to experiment. I’m currently using multipliers and mono with a view to learning some more technical casting. I’ll let you know how it all goes. 👍🏻 I’m really pleased you enjoy the channel, any nugget of information shared helps us all.

A very simple rig to make and very effective is an 18” length of mono between 2 swivels and a sliding lead. Have 3’ & 4’ clip on hook snoods made of 40lb mono and use 5/O or 6/O hooks to clip onto one swivel, the other swivel clips to your mainline. That should deal with almost anything and if you get into straps, the 2 swivels should help. I hope that is explained enough to make and good luck. I can take a photo if you need one.
