I’m almost positive the one in the middle is a 1998 model and the other two are from 1999, but until that theory is proven I’m just keeping 1998 in the title.
Today we have a video I’ve been excited to post for quite awhile now. Strap in, I feel another long description coming on…
Since I was little, Crocodile Rock has always been one of my most favorite Gemmy items of all time, and I have no idea how it took me so long to get one. They’re usually ridiculously expensive on eBay, but I finally got the one on the left (the first crocodile played) from Mercari for $15 on April 1st, 2020. It came with the kangaroos I posted yesterday, and it had an issue that most of these have right out of the factory: the hips were slightly off centered and didn’t move all the way to one side. There was also some corrosion in the battery compartment, and a small stain on the front that you can still kinda see. I was hoping he had a low pitch when I got him, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when I first tested him. The pitch is incredible, and that alone makes him my favorite of the 3 I have.
The second one I got is the one on the right (the last crocodile played). He originally belonged to Christopher S, who got him at a thrift store years ago. When Chris gave him to me as a gift (thanks again!!!) back in September of 2020, he was completely torn apart and missing most of his original pieces. I was hoping to try and fully restore him, but I really only had the skin, half of the base, the circuit board, the legs, and part of the mechanism to work with. After lots of trial and error, I decided to modify the mech so only the mouth moves, and that’s as good as it’s gonna get. Along the way, I also replaced the button, the speaker, the mouth hinge, the black dots on the end of the snout, and probably more. If you’re wondering why the head looks so weird, it’s because the original inner plastic skull was missing and my attempts at making a new one did not go very well. Overall though, I’m satisfied with how he turned out, and I’m super glad to have him.
The crocodile in the middle came from an eBay auction on July 17th, 2021 under the name “FUNNY CROCODILE” for literally only $3 total lol, and I was the only bidder. I typically try to keep myself from buying things just because they’re cheap, but I’m so glad I disobeyed myself in this case, because he came with a box that wasn’t even advertised in the listing. The box is in great shape too, you can tell he was really taken care of over the years. I never even expected the seller to ship this thing out, so I’m amazed that I received him in basically brand new condition. He would’ve been 100% perfect, except of course the hips were slightly off centered from the factory. I also noticed a few small differences between him and the other two crocodiles, and you can see some of them at the end of the video. It’s not easy to tell on camera, but he has a different button and base than the others, as well as a different tag. He seems to have more stuffing inside too, but that could just be a coincidence. Anyway, in case it isn’t obvious, these are some of my favorite Gemmy items in my whole collection, and I definitely plan on keeping all 3. Now that it’s past 2 AM and we are nearing 4000 characters, I think I’m going to be finished typing this. If you read this whole thing, you are awesome, and I really appreciate it. Thank you. And as always, thanks for checking out the video! Hope you enjoyed! Let me know what you think in the comments! Have a great weekend and see you Monday!
