Gempol Big Shunt

Жыл бұрынGempol was the nearest sugar mill to Cirebon which meant its cane fields were lost to the expanding city at an early stage. One feature of operation was that road cane was taken out of the mill for some 500 metres from the road yard before being reversed back on another line, Ross Sadler filmed this happening in 1981, the locomotive is DuCroo and Brauns 0-8-0T 3. The mill closed after the 1994 season by which time there was a direct connection to the mill and this shunt was no longer needed.

Is that part of the loop line or is the loop line also forms a part of the field line? It seems like a long distance away from the mill.

Yes, you're right - this did connect with a field line and in1979, I actually saw a Gempol field train come off that line around 3.00pm - quite rare to see a Gempol field train in the afternoon - they tended to be nocturnal. Thanks for your interest.

Like Rob, I have very little of this mill to offer. I do have some yard shunts, but my attempts to capture field activity on either gauge came to nothing. Anything I can find in terms of yard activity as I go through y super 8 stuff, I will send to Rob to put up, but don't be too hopeful.

Is PG Gempol's locomotive still in there or relocated to other PG?

Some were relocated to Sindanglaut and (especially) Tersana Baru but the TB ones are probably all scrapped too.
