Looks like a winner, Mark! A square frying pan with tight-fitting lid would make a good case to keep the sharp points from poking the contents of the backpack. A good canvas envelope could keep the inside of the pan clean. I have no idea where to procure such a pan, but it's something worth exploring.

The stove is excellent as is the video. I have had one for more than a year and have used it many times. Best sleeve to store this stove in, in addition to 2 steel tent pegs and the 5" x 5" grate is a cargo pocket salvaged from a pair of worn out cargo pants. Thanks for the great video and keep up the good work Mark.

Thank you very much for your well done and very informative video. I have had one for over a year but have not yet used it. I'm glad I watched your video because your ideas and suggestions have given me motivation to get mine out and use it, and to make a set of metal stakes as you did. I hadn't thought of alternative fuels but your video has inspired me to do so. Not just pellets, or chunk charcoal or alcohol; I do have a good supply of chunk hickory and other woods for my smoker and I'm thinking that some hickory and a nice cut of moose steak might be a great first meal on the stove. Thank you sir ...

I've had the original for years and can't rate it highly enough. The addition of the stove instead of using a can (or ikea utensil holder) looks great. Might be time to make another purchase. I also want to point out just how great the customer service was from seige. My original purchase came with a set of stands that didn't quite go together properly (I think he was still hand making them at that stage) I got in contact and he sent out a new set free of charge including postage and I'm in Australia so I can tell you that wouldn't have been cheap. I have an original emberlit stove too but the seige has been my favourite for years.

Hello, Mark. I like it. I like it a lot. This is a kind of stove I love to have with me on the trail. Light weight, folds down flat, good air flow and sturdy, versatile and skeletonised bottom and top cross bars to boot. What is not to like. I think I am going to get 2 for me and my son with 2 more sets of cross bars. Yes, I am keeping my firebox stove and all my chinese copies of famous stoves, too. I have a set of 12 long (14 inches) stainless steel tent pegs for wet seasons. I would use them to move the stove if I have to by putting through the holes of bottom cross bars. Appreciate the great info and presentation, Mark.

Thank you Mark for such a superb and thorough review. As you observed, the visual simplicity of the design conceals years of real-world testing and refinement. This was done while maintaining a focus on keeping the design as clean and simple as possible and at the same time optimizing for a variety of capabilities. I am reminded of the many historic figures who have apologized for writing long letters, explaining that it would have taken too much time to write a short letter. The Siege Stove is the equivalent of that short letter - high-performance, functionality and durability, uncluttered by anything unnecessary or finicky, or which might compromise the stove. From the get-go we were committed to making the stoves in the USA on philosophical grounds (which also helps ensure material purity and fabrication consistency). We also keep prices competitive by applying very low margins and only selling direct. Whereas most retail products have 4x and higher mark-ups on the production costs (the manufacturer wholesales it for double their cost, and the retailer doubles it again), the end-user price for our titanium Cross-Members, for example, is closer to just 1.5 x our core production costs (material & laser fabrication) - quite a lot lower than what manufacturers generally even charge as a wholesale price. To give further context to how reasonable our prices are, without mentioning any specific stoves, our US-made 100% titanium Flat-Pack Stove (made from US-produced aerospace-grade Ti) is priced significantly lower than the similar-fuel capacity $160 Chinese-made and $220 German-made titanium hinged stoves listed on Amazon, while also being a lighter and more compact carry. Hinges provide some convenience but at the price of weight and size, and we have seen reports of hinges warping over time (as well as the floor plates), rendering hinged stoves unable to be folded up or out (some hinge components may also not be titanium, and in the case of the $220 stove, the floor plate is stainless steel (to mitigate the potential warpage lock-up), so stoves that are billed as titanium are not always all titanium). We designed our stoves to last generations, with nothing to break down (a little warping of the walls is normal and will have no impact on stove function). With a little practice the Siege Stove can be assembled in 25-40 seconds and disassembled in under 10 seconds. Identical walls and the ability to interconnect components in almost any order (walls or cross-members first) also means that one never has to worry about assembling parts out of sequence and having to back-track. Thanks again! Siege Stoves

Thanks for the review. Your purchase of the stove speaks volumes about the quality of the stove. You mention that these grates will work with other types of stoves. Hi Jim. I assume you mean the Siege Stove cross members. They can be purchased separately and used with a variety of containers to create a stove. Most often, it is the Ikea utensil strainer but it could be almost any can. Placing them on the steamer is just another way of using them and saving money. Not really about which is better for certain situations. If you have the full Gen 3 flat pack stove, you really don't need anything else. Thanks for commenting

Amélioration, inverser, section plus large vers le bas. Essayer avec forme rectangulaire pour faciliter un ajout de recharge carburant, bois, trappe visite et bois sur la longueur et combustion toujours sur partie basse, 1ère combustion, important. I recently got the folding SS backpacking stove from Winnerwell. I got the optional raised stand for it too. It is larger than this one and it’s heavier but it pops into ready, very quickly. Both the stove and the riser fit into the box the riser came in and…without actually going to measure it, I’d guess the box is about 7”x7”x1 1/4”. I have the stove you’re discussing too, in SS. I like it great for backpacking but I mostly car camp and the Winnerwell is a better option for that IMO. Always great info from you. 👍👍

If you want to Mark you can drill a can sized hole in the middle of the stove so it can mimic a rocket stove and gasifier at once. It may be easier to put sticks in. :)

Great review Mark. My biggest 'turn off' of these stoves, is the fact that you have to put them together. Not a big deal in 3 seasons, but come winter time when its freezing rain or snow my fingers lose a lot of their dexterity and my patience is usually running low. Thats the main reason i went with the Firebox, and SimpleTheory stoves; No assembly required. I'd love your input or maybe an update once the temps drop and the snow starts falling. Love your videos and value your insite !

Couldn't agree more with this. In the dead of winter some of these tasks can become a real chore. Firebox for this reason is a hit for me.
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft 2 жыл бұрын
You can't go wrong with a folding stove in winter for ease of setup. Having said that, we rarely get below -25C / -13F here in Nova Scotia. Most days I go out in winter it is -10C. I find that if I have been at all active, my hands remain warm enough to handle a stove, especially if I am wearing thinner gloves. I really do not like cold hands so I usually have two pair of gloves with me. One more recommendation is to take a larger stove like this one as they work much better in the cold dues to a critical mass of heat they can generate. Thanks for commenting
@TheTarotCardGuy
@TheTarotCardGuy 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarkYoungBushcraft Thanks for the feedback. I have bad arthritis in my finger joints from years of martial arts and the cold makes my fingers almost unbendable if exposed for too long or if they are wet as well. Thin gloves may very well prove to be a viable option. I will have to try that out.

Hello Mark, I would like to tell you about using a 16oz can to hold a wood pellet fire rather than making alterations to your many stoves. Drill 1/4" holes in the bottom of the can, 2 rows of holes around the outside near the bottom and 1 row 1" below the top. It will work almost as a gasifier stove but it is only a burner to be used in other stoves. 2 handfuls of pellets will work almost for 30 minutes. Very little smoke, nothing but a little ash left, and it only takes a can from the trash and 5 minutes to make. Fairly wind friendly.

If one end of your skewers was bent into a hook would it be possible to hook them into the base member which has the notches and lift the complete stove? The hook would have to be quite a tight fit on the thickness of the cross member to give you some control while lifting but the square cut out looks large enough for this to work. It looks like a nice wee stove, it all comes down to price. ATB.

I like using charcoal when we have a fire ban as we are still permitted to do so. It gives a good amount of steady, almost smokeless heat for cooking. I prefer natural hardwood charcoal as it has no binders like briquettes have. Burns hotter and faster but does not add unwanted flavours to the food. For real wood, I prefer hardwood unless it is just a quick boil up. Softwoods often leave a bad taste on food as well as a lot of resin on the pots. Thanks for commenting
