Agreed, as much as teachers impart knowledge onto the younger generation, that doesn’t really help if said students aren’t willing to show the respect, let alone be a functioning human being instead of a screen zombie that just sits there and not engaging with what is being taught. Nor is it the teachers’ responsibility to teach proper adequate and other basic foundations that should have already been established during a child’s development at home.

My brother and his wife have been teachers, elementary, for over 25 years. Both quit last year because they got sick of the disrespect, and verbal and physical abuse by the students, and their parents. These were kids in a "Good" middle to upper class school district. My brother taught high school in LA for ten years, and he said that those students had nothing on this new generation. Mind you back then he had guns pulled on him several times.

if teachers don't want to be baby sitters, they need to quit these schools. These schools do not want to teach, they just want a daycare. These educators should be teaching and advocating for tradeschool to replace these institution who no longer serve a purpose of giving knowledge. That and tradeschools are better suited for preparing students for the real world.

I think the pandemic and at-home learning really emphasized the failure on the parents part because the kids couldn't be as easily held accountable for not doing their homework the next day like in person and parents would usually not set up the laptop in a structured/distraction free place. Parents also wouldn't support or help their kids with problems or make sure they understood what was being taught. They were super hands-off and children need structure to thrive, structure which both the pandemic and their parents fail to give them.

My daughter was in an American school while we were living in the UAE. This was her 1st year of primary. I noticed they were not learning phonics like in the UK. But I was reassured they were on track. We came back to the UK following year, and I was informed by her teacher that she is really behind on her reading/ writing and phonics. I was so angry because I felt I failed her by putting her in an American curriculum. My daughters school has been amazing in providing her extra support so she can get back on track. She had worked so hard this year. I'm so proud of her for not letting this defeat her. After also teaching a year in an America school. I have new and renound respect for our British curriculum. 🇬🇧

I agree. But also the norms formed by social media and being perfect, looking perfect, be "successful" makes a whole lot of selfcentred people...in this case the parents. We need to stop or heavily reduce the use of ipads, social media plattforms etc because it is going to ruin us. There have been studies shown that all this use has decreased skills such as empathy, conflict resolution, communication, bonding and also patience in us as people. So in other words one will grow up to be narcissistic, lonely and aggressive without the ability to communicate properly. Great!

My math teacher in eighth grade was fired because her son passed away in a car crash and one of the students was mocking him and she had enough apparently and threw his phone across the room and broke it, and instead of the kid getting disciplined for awful behavior an awesome teacher was fired. Like who would mock somebody’s death? Sure that does not take back the fact that she destroyed somebody’s things, but the things that the kid said were not ok. I heard this by rumor so it may not be exact, but I do know that she was fired for it and she loved her job and the fact that the thing that she loved doing was taken away by the things that she loved doing it for is just cruel.

My kids are 2 and 1. I notice the behavioral difference in other children just when we take them to the park to play. We plan on homeschooling and so far, my kids are very friendly, compared to the other children who hardly want to socialize at all. Every time my son sees a younger child he always wants to say hello and be friendly towards them. I often find other kids are rude or are detached and don't want to play with kids they don't know. I want my kids to grow up having friends, but how hard will it be, if their generation is this way? I remember how easy it was to make friends at a park even just for the day when I was a kid (I'm 28). Although my generation was one of the last to play outside regularly and have very frequent interactions with the neighborhood kids. Times are just different.

Some parents really leave it to teachers and ngl I was forced to up their grade and they were just doing the bare minimum 😭 and I had to direct them just by finishing those bare minimum paperwork's!! (Stressed) If I didn't up them up, the school will fire me because they didn't want the parents to sue me for mistreating their kid. Nowadays schools are just business. We teachers were and are the one got blamed for this sh.

As a young woman planning to have my first child, I’m deeply concerned about the lack of parental involvement in children’s lives, largely due to work demands. I’ve suffered two miscarriages, and I believe the stress and expectations placed on me in the workforce played a significant role. Society often shames women for wanting to be mothers, pushing the narrative that being a ‘boss girl’ is superior. I’m frustrated and heartbroken. I want to be a mother, but the financial necessity of both me and my partner working makes it seem impossible. Society’s disdain for stay-at-home mothers contributes to a cycle where parents can’t properly raise their children, leaving many kids to struggle. At times, I feel like giving up on my dream of having a child because I fear I won’t be able to provide the care and attention they deserve. I just wish there was more understanding and support for those of us who value motherhood and want to be present in our children’s lives.

im so sorry to hear about that. it almost feels like a flipping of the script for toxic masculinity. i dont think toxic femininity was something id be thinking about, but here we are. instead of expectations to be emotionless, endlessly strong, and completely unreactive to pain, its expectations to live your life exclusively for the work and the gains. heres hoping you can manage under these conditions.

Stay-at-home mums called maternity leave. It is practiced in many countries of the world. In my country you can go on maternity leave 2 months before the birth. Yes, pay is low. But it's socially accepted by most people. There is nothing wrong with wanting to breastfeed your kid. It's better for the kid and his development. Say you want maternity leave. In my country it's 3 years before free kindergarten starts supposedly (in reality there maybe no places). 1,5 years are paid, you are paid half of the salary.

The best advice I can offer is not to worry about what society thinks. Society blames e v e r y t h i n g bad on mothers. I learned this quickly after becoming one. What is most helpful is having a supportive partner who will help out with the infant and you (like watching them so you can take a shower). I ended up with an unsupportive partner and had to do absolutely everything myself, while I also worked part time from home. It was a nightmare but I'm glad I made it through infancy and toddlerhood with my mind mostly intact. Without a supportive partner or supportive social/familial circle, parenthood is a drag.

I was shocked to find out from my 17 year old and 8 year old that schools stopped teaching phonics for whole word reading and sight words. I never paid much attention to how they taught reading in school, because I taught both my kids how to read before kindergarten… using PHONICS. I still read with my 8 year old. We’ll lay on the bed and alternate reading a page at a time to each other, so I can hear how she’s pronouncing words and how she works it out when she encounters a words she doesn’t know. Even when I’m reading, if I get to a word I think she might not know, I stop, check with her, and show her how I would sound it out until she can read it. They’ve both told me sad stories of listening to their classmates struggling to read out loud.

I have had conversations every year with my children's schools that I do NOT want my children pushed through. Real life doesn't work that way. If my children aren't learning the material or doing the work well, maybe they'll catch on the second time around. I also refuse to let them do summer school. I'm fairly easy going as a mom. I know everyone needs mental health days and my children are free to come to me and say i just can't do it today...I have those days too...but I also tell them that they may be surprised by how resilient they are when they push through difficult times and come out the other side. I definitely think c19 had a very detrimental effect on school age kids. I also see that things like TikTok (not allowed in my house) are playing a huge part in why kids just aren't living up to their potential. If you want to see the results of how this plays out in real life just watch any of the bodycam videos available from cops for people in this age range. Crazy stuff.

As a local student. I can't help but notice a concerning trend among my cousins and past family members. It shows us that kids (ik ima kid too) don’t even go outside anymore? Which is concerning if your just stuck on your tablet staring at it having no hobbies, no sort of remorse, or anything it will and is going to reflect the minds of the gen alpha. Parents should be able to control their child instead of saying “alright sorry take it” and stuff. Parents are being wayyy too lenient which is messed up. So, my opinion is get these tablets away or maybe to a screen time or something. Reflecting to the past, wish times were way simpler, we could also have fun(going outside etc) and playing on our tablets

I am 13 but I educate her right from what I learned from my parents who works half of the day. Now, she is still like this so I am planning to stop her from using electronics more often. Can't tell you how many times we've had to clear the class out of the room because a child was knocking over bookcases or literally beating other children with chairs. The parents always blamed it on us... but then admitted later that they have a padded room at home for this very reason. A. Padded. Room. For tantrums. Let that sink in. It's so messed up, I can't even fathom it. Instead of actually guiding their child through their emotions or god forbid some sort of discipline, they just put him in a room that they had designated was safe enough for him to destroy. Absolutely mind-blowing.

Mainstreaming highly dysfunctional kids has been a failure. They need to bring back special ed, remedial and behavioural streams, so the majority don't have their educations ruined, and stop letting failing students fail upwards, where they'll have even less chance of catching up. They also need to stop leaning on restorative justice so much as a substitute for discipline. It's only appropriate for mild to moderate misbehaviour, and first offenders. School administrators and governing bodies need to stop cowing to and placating nasty parents and start supporting their teachers.

I cannot accept being Gen Alpha if this is their true behavior. I would much rather be called 'Gen Zalpha' if this is how my generation is behaving. It is certainly not an understatement to be saying that these kids need mental help A.S.A.P. They say words they don't understand, and the INCREDIBLE gap and lack of respect in these children is actually horrifying. I'm terrified if this is how other kids in MY generation are acting. I sincerely hope they fix their attitude and whatever is wrong with their brain. My sincerest condolences to the teachers dealing with this issue🙏

I grew up with parents who took reading seriously. The only technology I was allowed back then was those old toys where you move the stylus across words and it reads to you, although I was allowed a 3DS afterwards as long as I did the brain training games for a few minutes any day I use it. Then, I was always encouraged to go play educational games anytime I used the computer. I wasn't allowed social media at all until I was 16 (15 for things like Animal Jam and DeviantArt). What parents need to do is sit down and help their kids with their reading outside of school and instead of just giving them a screen to occupy themselves, try giving them something that's fun, but educational. Leapfrog is still a thing, right?

I am a gen alpha myself, and most of my classmates are saying the most random words such as “skibidi” “big back” “rizz” “gyatt” “womp womp.” It started last year in august. It’s not funny anymore, i just wish they could shut their mouthes, as like a ziploc bag. They’re brainwashed. I believe it. And i’m not their friend anymore. I can’t control my anger anymore, therefore I don’t talk to anyone, making me an introvert. Also you all better not “womp womp” me

I’m in. Seventh grade currently, and I feel like the “I’m surrounded by idiots” meme very part of my day. I remember back when students respected teachers, now, they just say “no” and then the teacher just skips them, I mean like, no, you can’t just say that you don’t want to to make something stop. You can’t tell the police “I don’t want to go to jail.” My fellow students are going to have a hard wake up call when they turn 18.

In my country if any if these happened, those students are toast. They got expelled, literally... And there's strict banning to bring or even use gadgets during class. Those caught using it, faced detention and got their parents involved. Thankfully, the parents are in the teacher's side.

Listen up, everyone! I want to emphasize that there is always hope. Take for example my younger sister, who is part of Gen Alpha and currently 10 years old. She is in an advanced class and her teacher recently informed my parents that she writes with the proficiency of a university student, despite being in 5th grade. Her entire class demonstrates exceptional intelligence, consistently achieving perfect scores on their FAST exams. Notably, my sister achieved the highest score in her class on the reading FAST. This just proves that there is indeed hope for the future!

This a story from a while back… and it’s actually horrible. I was visiting a town called Hannibal in Missouri on a road trip and over there they have a lovers leap so I went there and it was a pretty nice view. I read a few plaques and then there was one. It was next to a flag pole and on the side of that flagpole someone had in-scripted with pencil: “F*** America Fortnite 4ever. Y’all had no rizz.” It was a 9/11 plaque. Anyone who says it’s gonna be fine and everyone looks like every new generation like this, just absorb that fact.
