Footage of an ITN news report covering the drama prior to and during a press conference organised by the leaders of the military coup which deposed the government of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
With reports that the coming to power of the Junta, which would be named the National Liberation Council (NLC), received backing from foreign powers, Ankrah, who was flanked by army commander Emmanuel Kotoka and Police chief, J.W. Harlley, was at pains to assert that Nkrumah's overthrow was contrived only by Ghanaian actors.
The press conference was dominated by the appearance of Daniel Amihyia. Amihyia, who had been interviewed on television in London, claimed that he had masterminded the coup from a flat in West Kensington.
Amihyia was ordered to stand on a chair to explain himself while Ankrah derisorily interrrupted him. Ankrah angrily said "None of us know him. He is a criminal wanted in Ghana. We will put him in a cold ice chest." Kotoka at one point called Amihyia a"charlatan".
After the conference, during which a gun was pointed at him, Amihyia was taken away by an armed guard.
