Hustle culture (and its sister variant, girlbossitis) was one end of the work culture spectrum. Quiet quitting is the other end.
What's most fascinating is that both seemed to be born out of crises: the Great Recession and the pandemic, respectively. 👀

What's SO interesting to me is how Gen Z developed in parallel with the later iterations of the silicon Valley tech bro entrepreneurial mentality which appears to be so diametrically opposed to the Gen Z political and sociocultural positions as they have articulated themselves since post 2008 and then obviously the crux of their "coming of political age and consciousness" occurs at the axis of the Trump Era and what's even MORE INTERESTING To me, is the way that Gen Z embraced the Sanders ethos and the direct action political process protest and performance, because it's SO GODDAMN INTERESTING that when work culture seemed to clash with the more open ended, live life on what you think are your own terms by smoking a lot of weed as if first discovering it, and how revolutionary they were to resist marketing by just opting out and into the nearly absolute control of social media networking behemoths and WHATS SO FUCKING GODDAMN INTERESTING is how rapidly this generation is becoming the most useful profit generating cohort and they will deny all facts that don't conveniently fit the incoherent worldview they supposedly espouse as a radical antidote to the crazed conspiracy ideologies of the "alt right" for lack of a more inclusive term, without ever once working through the moral, intellectual and political nonsense that they're extraordinarily skilled at ignoring; as well as ignoring the hypocrisy of their own positions despite their reliance on such arguments to distinguish themselves from the only modest differences between their own nonsense and the nonsense of their sworn enemies. So, yeah, more power to the thousands of onlyfans girls who conveniently convince themselves of their autonomy when in material reality they are just emotional prostitutes who make billions for their corporate pimps! Yeah God love em!

Message brought to you on a platform created and sustained by… hustle culture! 🤣 Cheers to the rise and grinders working more than 40 hours a week to innovate, create and make our world a better place! Those of us enjoying life-saving medicines, new iPhones, tasty Starbucks coffees and sustainably-energized Tesla Model Y’s thank you! 🙏🏻 None of these amazing products were brought to market by those quietly quitting.

Some of the most brilliant investors, philosophers, and academics did not engage in “hustle” culture. it’s not only disingenuous ,but I would say dangerous, to equate someone working on a grant/loan/stakeholder funded passion project to an understaffed Starbucks. who regularly expects its employees to go above and beyond for no other reason than brand loyalty and need for employment. Hustle culture does a wonderful job of tricking the masses into undervaluing their own labor. Companies have no problem raising their prices when inflation is high, “resources cost more” but heaven forbid the “human resources” demand to be treated like humans not robots. That’s communist talk right?

@@tyturner7110 the pioneers who imagined, innovated and created the first Starbucks are not in any way equivalent to your average Starbucks barista, my dude. Starbucks employee wages have also increased year over year with inflation. Their wages have gone up… And if they feel they should still be paid more, they can take their skills and go work elsewhere. Or… imagine, innovate and create their own coffee shop! That’s crazy though, right? Someone working hard to gain high value skills, create new products and services, and expect to be rewarded for it is a little too “free market capitalism” for ya isn’t it? Better to stomp your feet and demand to be paid more because YOU value your time more than the market does. 😂 GTFO If Starbucks employees want to earn more from Starbucks easily, they should live below their means and invest the difference in SBUX shares. The earnings and dividends have increased annually for owners (which anyone can be). However, simply being a barista is always going to have a low earnings ceiling. The skills just aren’t as valuable to society as heart surgery or computer programming… or being an executive at a successful company. You keep on complaining. I’m gonna keep on hustling. I know one thing, I’ll never have to complain about someone else paying me minimum wage.
