I agree! In fact, it makes me laugh when they think three years ago is old. (Not making fun of them but genuinely amused.) I was amused when someone asked me what a phonograph record is. I remember phonograph records like it was yesterday. Prefer CDs though. Records get scratched and cassettes get twisted up.

@@holdernessfamilylaughs It really does happen to all of us. After this video and the Monday vs Friday video, I honestly discovered that I am not depressed, as the "experts" say; I'm just getting older. I seriously needed that video to help me to point out that it is 100% normal. You know, they say that if you stopped going out as much as you used to or you avoid going out even if you make plans to do it, then you're categorized as being depressed. That's the problem in the first place! "Experts" and media have been so wrong, so many times, about so many things, that they claim to be right about. They really do ruin people's lives.

I'm lucky. My "baby" is 21 yrs old, so I don't have to keep up with anything. If I don't understand what they're saying, I make them translate into 50 yr old speak. I am not learning a new set of slang words that will be out five months later. I don't remember sounding this dumb when I was a teenager in the 80s. I think social media changed language for the worse. Totally. 😋

Grandma was the actress that played "June Cleaver" on the 50's show Leave it to Beaver. Her iconic character there was the most feminine, pearls-wearing, housewife Mom there ever was on a show with a typical 1950's all white cast. Her speaking jive to the cool dudes on the plane in Airplane made that gag extra hilariously funny. There were layers to the joke.

It's not emoji, it's African American vernacular and Ballroom slang used out of context or just a bit off. Folks wouldn't use a lot of these words together in natural conversation unless they were trying to be funny 😂

I feel like kids need to create a class for adults just so we know how to talk to them in their own language. Lol

It's like a whole different language! The fact that I didn't know or understand the majority of that makes me feel very old (I'm 32), but I'm okay with that because that conversation sounded absolutely ridiculous.

I barely got it clear that 'sick' and 'wicked' are terms of approbation before they moved on to something else I'm beyond trying to interpret. I received a detailed and thorough definition of 'yeet' back in 2021, from a middle schooler; but still cannot comprehend when or how to use it, so it is a relief to find it's now out of date. I used the term 'cool' in front of my students once. (I was not trying to 'be cool'; it's part of my own personal vocabulary.) They looked physically pained, at least the ones who even understood the word! The rest looked miserably confused to discover my generation had it's OWN slang. 😆 Really enjoying your videos! 🙂
