How many teens got into martial arts back in the late 80s, early 90s because of this film! Me and my best mate, (we were 17 in ‘88) watched this over and over! 😄🤙🏽 I started in Shotokan and trained for many years.. Years later I got my young son training. He got to 3rd Kyu/brown belt before losing interest (discovered x-box).. kids 🙄

In my opinion Jean-Claude Van Damme brought more art to the whole Martial Arts and action movie genre. His kicks were so graceful it was like watching Leonardo Da Vinci create art. Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Chuck Norris, Don Wilson, Superfoot and Cynthia Rothrock they all had their own quality and amazing martial artist they all are but Van Damme he defined the whole artist in Martial Arts for cinema. Loved Van Damme when he first hit the screens, yes he had his downs, and his mistakes but still the guy still has it even to this day. Lol One of the best Martial Arts movies ever made, biggest inspiration behind the game series Mortal Kombat. Fun Fact: the game Mortal Kombat was originally titled "Van Damme" because MK creators Ed Boon and Jon Tobias wanted to make a full on Van Damme fighting game starring Van Damme himself and they also had a demo created using scenes from Bloodsport and other movies with a digital JCVD, Jean-Claude was filming the film "Universal Soldier" at the time when Boon and Tobias approached him about the game and Van Damme already had another game deal for the movie called Unisols but that game never came to be, no deal was made between Boon/Tobias and JCVD, then Mortal Kombat was born and Johnny Cage became Van Damme. All these years later and we finally come full circle by getting Jean-Claude in the new MK game.
