I do like original Jeff better. He was unnerving whereas new Jeff was dopey. Even still, I did like the episode. The con was pure Slippin' Jimmy and the slippin' Jeff scene had me on edge.

I agree. But to make it feel more smooth (the transition between the 2 actors) I like to think he’s more dopey once he is home with him mom and real nervous especially once he sees Gene there with her. He knows he’s not in control of the situation anymore so he’s less confident. Idk if that was the same thought process of the show runners but I think it’s a good way to help move past the actor change.

I thought the original Jeff had this like spookier vibe too, but props to that other actor for stepping up and filling the role as well as he did. Even though he didn’t have the same kind of chemistry with bob, imo I feel like the dopier version almost fit better into this latest episode than old Jeff would have if that makes sense

New Jeff kinda ruined it. It felt like a season 2 episode where Jimmy did some scheme with some buddies for lulz. It didn't feel like he was in danger of his cover being exposed. Old Jeff was way more intimidating, you could feel Saul was in real danger with him.

The thing with the two Jeff characters. People get too hung up. Pretty simple, a lot of other people have mentioned this too. In the mall, Jeff had Saul surprised and cornered. He’s a real tough guy until he sees Gene in his mother’s kitchen charming her. Now he’s rattled. Big time.

I don’t understand the hate this episode is getting. I thought it was super funny and different. It was unexpected what happened but I thought it fit in with the story perfectly. Did people expect Gene to get a huge machine gun and kill everyone? It was a smart way to get Jeff off of his back. The scheme Gene pulled off was epic and hilarious.

A lot of people expected Walt and Jesse this episode, based on the leaked reporting. I'm so glad that we didn't get it though, as now we are in legitimate suspense as to when they appear. The same people criticizing this episode are the ones who criticized episodes like Sabrosito and Black & Blue the night after they aired. And guess what, those criticisms always come back to haunt them.

I liked it, but I understand why some didn't. With only 4 episodes left in the entire series, it didn't do much to progress the plot. Everything could have been condensed to half an episode or less and still gotten everything across plus advanced the plot. But honestly, the breakneck pace and intensity of the last few episodes was unsustainable. Because if there's no valleys the peaks will seem a lot more dull. We need a lull so the final 2 episodes are comparatively thrilling.

Glad you noticed the door not being proped open to make sure he didn’t get locked out. But also, these are double doors and not a single door like the time he gets locked out. We know it’s the same trash area because we see his carving. I’m okay with it I guess because they could have gotten complaints about the door locking and fixed or replaced them or remodeled that area. It’s just weird for a team that pays so much attention to detail. Saul’s fake breakdown reminded me of Walt’s fake breakdown to get Hank to leave the office for a minute so he could plant the bug. There have been several throw away lines this season to misdirect us. Howard and Kim both saying “I’m just getting started” is one

I cracked up at the "after all that a happy ending" line. What a troll. We've all been waiting to find out what it meant, as well as what Nippy meant, and it was all just an elaborate fiction, complete with 'a happy ending'. That'll teach us for thinking Kim hired Jeff.

Those teasers have been deliberately designed to mislead and trip us up. The "I'm not your friend" line was in another one and we also just saw it in Jeff's garage, again it felt totally benign and inconsequential. The track playing during the split screen montage is Lalo Schifrin's 'Jim on the Move' from the Mission Impossible TV series. I believe this means we're seeing Slippin' Jimmy doing the business, not Saul. Edit. This also makes more sense of the shirt he chose at the end. Saul wore plain shirts. Further Edit: I guess this means that at the end we're seeing a Slippin' Jimmy Shirt and a Saul Goodman Tie.

Exactly. People believe that Jimmy was gone and Saul took over. Yeah but Jimmy was in there. Hence all of his Jimmy McGill momentous in his mansion. He is still in there and Saul Goodman is just a face that he made himself wear. While I understand that some people might be upset about this episode, I think it was not only entertaining to watch, but also logistically necessary, especially as episode 6x10. That's because with it, not only did the sixth season reach the regular length of the other BCS seasons, but it also concluded the main plot points of the show (from the BCS and Gene timelines), in the sense that the show could have ended here storywise with everything crucial having been covered and fully making sense. This will make the next three episodes truly feeling like their own thing in which new territory is being explored. The only significant loose end thus far, at least from what I remember, is the pronoun game played between Francesca and Saul in his office during the Breaking Bad timeline flash forward while they were shredding documents and getting rid of evidence and so on. Who is "they"? Apart from that, and maybe a few other minor things we can deduce ourselves, the main story could, for all intents and purposes, have ended with the events of 6x09 for the BCS timeline and of 6x10 for the Gene timeline. Yeah, 6x10 felt like a standalone experience, in the sense that Gene's dealing with Jeff started and ended with it and also the events in this episode were completely independent of everything else that's happened in S06 thus far. Like you could go from 5x01 straight to 6x10 and still understand everything that happened in this episode. While this is valid criticism, I'm glad Jeff didn't get more attention than was warranted (I could be wrong tho, idk what will happen in the next episodes). He was just a guy messing with Gene and his fragile situation, not nearly as interesting a villain as Gus, Lalo, Eladio, Jack or even Todd. One full episode is IMHO all he needs.
@acadeacumenta
@acadeacumenta Жыл бұрын
@Wieldy Nutz Given what we know thus far, it could just be the fact that he wanted to get in the game, expecting he'll make more money with time. He was just doing what he was being told by Saul, believing that step by step he would become a successful criminal.

I haven't seen hate for the episode. It was an essential part of the evolution of the story. It frustrates me that non-thinking folk who watch cannot see this. (1) the "Jeff threat" had to be resolved. And with so few episodes left, it had to be "done and one;" (2) The episode shows overtly the "Saul tryin' to get out" concept, where Gene, by necessity, let "Saul fix the thing" so to speak; up to recently, we weren't sure if Saul/SJ was gone forever or not. Now we know for sure that he was just under the surface (hints with the "get a lawyer!" comment, yes. (3) the solution was clever, well written and executed (agree original Jeff better...intimidating, while this one was goofy...this recast choice is the one negative of the episode.); (4) The episode ends with the viewer not sure how this "slippin' Jimmy/Saul resurfacing" will affect Gene's future (Is Gene likely to just go back to being a Cinnabon manager for the rest of his life? Not likely.Or is this "taste" of "the game" too tempting? But how will it play out? We will soon know. And how would Gene's taste of the beloved "Saul" life jibe with any potential long-term Kim reunion? These seem incongruent. These facts lead to tension for the viewer to desire seeing resolution, one way or the other. Perhaps I am being uncharitable for those who did not like the episode. But since BCS is IMO the or one of the best TV shows ever produced, on a myriad of levels, and, by extension, I assume the viewers are sophisticated enough to appreciate all the overt and subtle implications of the episode, I cannot see how S6E10 is not appreciated for the essential episode that it is. Don't worry. We are not done with flashbacks, BCS/BB world, and I am sure, some bit of Kim (love Rhea and the character).

@@WJSuberMD I agree with many of the points you make, but I was still slightly disappointed at the end of the episode for one reason in particular. The plot of the episode was really enjoyable, with Gene using a classic Slippin’ Jimmy type scheme in order to solve his Jeff problem. Additionally, the implication of Gene getting a “taste” of the old life and wanting more of that makes me excited (and scared) to see what kind of trouble he gets into next… I’m really glad to see Gene not simply live the rest of his life in fear/unhappiness. I think all of this is really good for the Gene timeline moving forward (because we have to be getting a bit more finality with Gene than where we left off at the end of Nippy) However, my main issue with the episode is the character of Jeff himself. This is a character we’ve been speculating about for YEARS (since he was introduced in season 4) and not to mention, all of the promotional material has been hinting at Jeff being a serious threat. To have Jeff’s character be as simple as a guy who used to be in Albuquerque and just happened to recognize Saul seemed a little flat to me. With that kind of anticipation, I think Jeff should have been somehow connected to the BCS or BB timelines. I suppose that’s still a remote possibility in some fashion, but I don’t think it’s likely after seeing how Nippy played out. Sure, I’m really glad this episode seems to be the catalyst for Gene to become more like Saul/Jimmy moving forward, but I can’t help but feel Jeff, and by extension, this episode was a relatively easy way to get Saul to resurface from within Gene.

Although i liked the episode i think the scheme itself is very flawed. In the show they mentioned that the "reward" is about 5000 dollars (minus the cost of the van). I think it is a bit too less money when the risk is so high. I mean the whole plan collapses if the security guard takes one look over his shoulder. It is also very questionable in the first places why he doesn't sit at genes site of the table. He can watch the screens and eat his cinnabon at the same time.

Another reference I immediately thought of when I saw the “Say it” scene is that really tense scene between Walter & Saul. When Saul wanted out, Walter told him, “We’re done when I say we’re done.” In the Gene & Jeff scene this episode, Gene needed to make sure they were done, telling Jeff to “say it”. Gene most likely has trauma from Walter and is subconsciously still scared of him. He needed reassurance that his scheme with Jeff was a one time thing, and not another Heisenberg situation.

I didn't want the comment to come off as rude, I didn't mean the sound was bad in itself (I haven't played Zelda btw), it just feels like it breaks the pace of the videos. Anyway, thank you, you've earned a new subscriber. About the "say it" line, I think it's just a common way of making sure someone internalizes a concept or an idea, similar to "repeat after me". It works in the same way as reading aloud, or writing down something important in paper, it makes it easier to memorize.

I really like this episode, I think the people criticizing the episode are valid because there was a few points the story dragged, and for some reason I was only expecting half of the episode to be a Gene episode. I found this episode surprisingly funny! I really like the way he scammed Jeff and the others into taking the fall if Jeff told the police about Gene. I can understand people not liking new Jeff but he did do better than I personally expected. It’s really nice to see the shades of Jimmy/Saul in Gene and Gene actually felt like a more alive character in this episode. This episode gave me vibes of the first 2-3 seasons, where Jimmy was planning all those elaborate schemes. My personal favorite scenes are Jeff falling and Jimmy trying to stall the security guy, Gene grabbing the ring, and the last scene where he teased the return to Saul. One of the great features of this episode--an ingredient of all good "long con" stories--is that the audience isn't given all the information about the plan. I wasn't sure if the scuff on the department store floor was deliberately put there by Gene/Saul/Jimmy as part of his scheme--we find out it was not, which launches a whole new layer of suspense and one of Odenkirk's best moments in the series. Also, the rhyming series ("One, Armani suits and run. Two, Nike shoes for you...") was a nod to The Dirty Dozen.

This was a fantastic episode. I was really wondering where he was going with this plan to remove the threat and starred ti fear he was getting himself wrapped back up in the game, but it was geniusly executed in classic slipping Jimmy fashion. I thought this episode was particularly good for drawing the distinction of his Gene personality from his Jimmy and Saul personalities. Jimmy did scams mostly for the thrill of it and never thought too seriously of things, Saul leaned full scammer and dedicated himself to those ends, and finally Gene seems like he had evolved, executing a sleek scam in order to regain control of his life and save himself. I'm very eager to see where the rest of the season takes us, as this kinda wrapped up his last remaining storyline barring the mysterious payphone call he mentioned to Francesca before fleeing.

The original Jeff looked more intimidating because of the cab scene. If you rewatch the scene when he speaks to Gene in the mall you can tell he’s pretty goofy. I don’t think this will be the last we see of Jeff but I though it made sense.

@@Brandon_QFG No way. The “say it” increasingly more demanding sounding was super sinister and intimidating in S5!! No argument whatsoever!! This recast was a huge misstep; they should’ve called an audible when the actor couldn’t do it. I mean fuck, guys.

Gene having a fake mental breakdown to the security guard was similar to Walt when he was talking to Hank and planting a bug in his office. Using the truth to get out of a lie.

I don’t feel that there’s any ‘blackmail’/extortion going on on Gene’s part at all. Gene is simply telling them that if they try to extort him, it won’t work, and why. Overall, they got off with a pretty (goofy) department store hall-and hopefully, they aren’t up to any criminal enterprises on their own.

The part that hit me the most was when Marion told Gene that he’s a “good influence” on Jeff, right after Gene just blackmailed Jeff. This is the first time ever in his life that someone praised him for doing something good (albeit not true). What he got before that were insults from Chuck and the society or reward from Kim and Walter whenever he did bad things. This line is like a wake up call for Gene and made him responded with the story about how Nippy live happily ever after to make Marion at peace. The word from Marion really struck deep into his heart that Gene started re-evaluating himself about what he really want. The shot of him trying his Saul Goodman style shirt and then denied it and left it hanging seems like he realized that scam is unsustainable for him to achieve happiness and the real thing that he actually want his entire life is peace.

Yeah, the fact that he was also caught up so much with his work passionately, shows that something in changed his mindest. We saw him constantly distracted from work, for reasons like paranoia but this time he even forgot that he had a break, he even had a genuine smile, which we never saw with Gene.

@@nont18411 Agreed. I think his punishment might be the fact that he can't return to his old life, more specifically he can't be back with Kim. I think we will see a reunion with Jimmy and Kim. However Kim has a new life now and can't go back. As a punishment, she might now have a low paying job where she works at a market that she mentioned to Rich and maybe she might even be married and has kids, thus making her uncapable to be with Jimmy again. It's probably going to be more justifying but just a thought.

@@jackanapezz For me, I think some of them deserves jail time, mostly Jimmy. Because he committed so much sins and had been evading the law for a long time. Him getting away with it, albeit living a mundane life, doesn’t seem like justice because so many people died and suffered thanks to his endeavour and if he never got in jail, it means that Hank spent the entire course of show investigating Heisenberg and died for nothing because there is a totality of ZERO person in Heisenberg operation who got in jail. About Kim, I think Cliff and Cheryl deserve to know the truth what she did to Howard (actually both Jimmy and Kim but mostly Kim) and she needs to get punished in some form…legally. Contrary to popular belief, I don’t think Kim deserves to live happily ever after with her new husband and kids.

@@nont18411 We can also look at it as, Jimmy has always hated himself because his brother never loved and respected him thus Jimmy is a character born out of Greek tragedy where he will constantly try to destroy anything good he tries to do in a recurring Sisyphusian nightmare because he is under the thumb of what Chuck thinks of him. I think this is why Jimmy has all these persona's because he cant be "himself". Perhaps that is punishment enough and perhaps Jimmy accepting himself in the end could be his road to redemption. I know its not popular but I dont blame Howards death on Jimmy (or Kim) although it was Kim who certainly pushed for this but in the end it was happenstance. They were indirectly responsible but they didnt plot to kill him... We "could" say that if Howard doesnt send Kim down to filing and condescendingly attack her for her choice of being with Jimmy than Kim wouldnt have acted with such ferocity in her attempt to ruin him. So Howard too created his own fate... We all do. Its Action/Reaction. And in the end we all end up based on the choices we make. It may be sad or tragic but it is life... Just my 2 cents. What a wonderful show though no matter how it turns out.We can also look at it as, Jimmy has always hated himself because his brother never loved and respected him thus Jimmy is a character born out of Greek tragedy where he will constantly try to destroy anything good he tries to do in a recurring Sisyphusian nightmare because he is under the thumb of what Chuck thinks of him. This was a great episode. Seeing a Gene episode after seeing what we saw in the last episode just really puts things in perspective as to what he’s lost. I’m curious as to how Jesse and Walt will feature in one of the last episodes. They’ll no doubt be important as I don’t see them showing up just because. No doubt there will be some important moment with them being in the show. Great video man, keep up the great work!
