031 - Gene Regulation
Paul Andersen explains how genes are regulated in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. He begins with a description of the lac and trp operon and how they are used by bacteria in both positive and negative response. He also explains the importance of transcription factors in eukaryotic gene expression.

The inducer-repressor control of the lac operon is an example of ----negative control----, in which expression is normally blocked. In contrast, the CAP-cAMP system is an example of positive control, because expression of the lac operon requires the presence of an activating signal-in this case, the interaction of the CAP-cAMP complex with the CAP region.
