I've had the General Grabber ATx's for nearly 40,000 miles now, and I think it's time for a review. If you're in the market for All-Terrain/off-road tires, you're gonna want to stick around and hear all about the General Grabbers. I've been able to push these tires in almost every environment, from rocks, to dirt, to mud, to snow and more.
Buy Grabber ATX here:

Thanks for watching and please feel free to share your thoughts on A/T tires in the comments.

I've been torn between these and KO2's for a little while now. I've probably watched about two dozen reviews in the last week and a half or so as the time to replace is getting close. This is probably the best review I've seen so far. Very thorough, informative and articulate. I think you just officially sold me on the Grabbers. Thanks dude.

The General Grabber is more true to size if you go 33’s or 35’s. They do have the new version KO3 from BFG.

With very loose, deep, dry sand, you don’t want aggressive lugs that will dig a hole. You want as much surface area on the sand and float on top. Airing down is a must in sand.

Thanks for making this vid Carter! I had just ordered KO2s legit five minutes before watching this vid. Quickly, changed my mind and cancelled my order and got some ATxs

I had both the KO2’s and the General Grabber ATX’s on my 2000 4Runner and the General’s were much better in my experience. They balanced better, were quieter and lighter (better fuel economy) I didn’t do a ton of off-roading with either but both were pretty decent. If I were to spend the money again I would go Generals without a hesitation. It was quite annoying to have to rebalance the KO2’s every 6 months. I tried RoadForce balancing and everything else and it seemed almost on the dot every 6 months it needed to be rebalanced.

On my second set. Put 60,000 on the first set. I traveled around the country for 6 months for most of that. As I also like to go fast they were not easy miles. I also trail and enjoy rooftop tent life. Great tire, never any issues. They're well worth the price. I had plenty of treadlife left at 60,000 but I don't want to take any risks on adventure.

Since KO2 prodution recently moved to Tiawan the quality of the rubber has gone downhill. Lots of sidewall cracking especially around the 30k mark.

How would you say these do in the wet, any issues with hydroplaning or losing traction?

Like the guy in the video, I ran the Grabber AT2's for 70k miles before replacing them with the ATX's when the AT2 was discontinued. I've put roughly 68k miles on these tires and they resisted hydroplaning VERY effectively up until about the 50k-60k mile wear mark, but I feel that is typical of any tire with that much wear. I live in the Midwest and my F150 sees a good mixture of snow and rain. The ATX's perform phenomenally on ALL terrains. They work well with heavy loads and when towing. I'll be replacing mine here in the next month with another set of ATX's. I bought my 2010 F150 at 64k miles about 8 years ago and the dealership had just installed new Grabber AT2's then. I've now got 206k miles on the truck and I've ONLY ran the General Grabber AT family tires, and I will ONLY run the Grabber AT family tires. They're THAT good.

I've driven these on ice, snow, heavy rain, mud, and whatever on my F150. I use to run super swampers on my old 4runner and they're no super swamper off road but the balance on road vs the swampers is vastly different. Plus I never trusted the swampers on the highway. I'd never run swampers on my F150 either though.

Normal road tires such as Michelin Defenders would be the best in sandy conditions, more surface area. Mud terrains would be terrible in the sand.

6 ply? Is that LT or SL rated? The AT2 series were considered one of the worst AT tires in the category so im a little surpised you mentioned them at all.

Nothing against you, but the north american "i only want one set of tires all year round even on snow" is always a little strange to me. I wear different clothing/shoes in freezing snowy weather and in summer heat, so my car gets different "shoes" too. Because a good set of winter tyres costs less than a new bumper and has way more traction on snow.

At over 400$ a tire, it’s a little expensive. Plus change over/another set of wheels, sometimes it makes sense to just run an AT.
@nirfz
@nirfz 11 ай бұрын
@@looseaxles Keep in mind, that while you use your set of winter tyres, the AT/summer tyres get *no* wear at all. So you have to replace the AT/summer set less often. Apart from the second set of wheels, the calculation usually says it costs the same long term because after you have the wheels you usually only replace tyres.
@looseaxles

@@nirfz great conversation! I think another factor to consider is up front costs. It’s about 2400$ minimum to run two sets of larger dedicated tires. I’m personally on the side of one year round, but I think I’d definitely consider a second set of dedicated winters. Living in Alberta we have snow one day and +20 the next!
