Today we're taking a look at some recent news from Midjourney about the upcoming ability to generate 3d images! I'll take a look at what information has been released, with a close eye on what this will mean for the future of AI Image Generation!

Thank you so much! And yeah, that's something I LOVE about MJ-- those times when you get something you'd never expect! I don't know how many times I've gotten an image that just makes me literally laugh out loud. MJ sometimes has a great sense of (unintentional) humor!

3D, even if it means generating a load of PNGs and importing them as a sequence to create a video in After Effects will be a game changer. This is the single most exciting thing I've heard in ages.

this is already possible with Stable DIffusion and I use this process to create visuals for my DJ perfomances to use on my LED wall

3D camera manipulation is gonna be awesome. 😍 I've had a number of Midjourney gens that look great, but the angle isn't what I want. This could be amazing for really nailing down that final bit of the aesthetic. Thanks for the roundup and the break downs. Great stuff, Tim!

Wow this new mid journey updates sound very very cool I can't wait to see what other people actually create with mid journey 3D and runway is just killing it I'm really really excited to actually use Adobe premiere's new video editing tools even though I currently don't even use them but it's worth a try

Premiere has a trial if you’d like to check it out! If you’re new to editing, you might like Capcut, or Davinci Resolve- since both are free. Once you get into it, they all do the same things, just a little extra sauce with each one!

@@TheoreticallyMedia I use Capcut but I mainly use Descript which has amazing AI features! The main feature they have is also text based editing which now Premiere has too! Premiere has a steep learning curve what ya think?

Exciting stuff Tim.......i would love a VRML output, but i get it, i guess we've been waiting for this since V4, where i noticed the dynamics of its rendering and the consistency that led to the remix feature. I hope MJ has some kind of actionscript ,low level user programming, for non programmers like myself, who want to have processes like rendering and stop at say 60% and continuing with prompt 2 , on the output of the previous prompt , unless they implement some sliders with in/out render thresholds. All this to increase the consistency for long projects or developing new image styles . With all this talk of 3D space, it would be a great to record your exploration of the scene or product with a camera path. if we get a sister programme , MJ 3D for scene object creation and OBJ import and output , that'll be great, as David knows a thing or two about immersive 3D navigation.

Oh, that would be epic! I wouldn’t expect it at launch, but I could see elements being added in as the user base gets comfortable with 3d and wants to experiment more. Given what we know, I don’t think anything you mentioned isn’t in the scope of possibility, I think it’s just a matter of introducing the general audience to the concept, and not overwhelming them with power options. So…given the speed of AI, next month? Haha

@@TheoreticallyMedia 😂🤣😂 true can’t believe it’s just a year, in that the exponential growth, has had us hurtling at Lightspeed, which is still slower than the speed of thought, but it seems like we’ve been the mix for 10 years of Ai , the growth is really timestretching our creative appetite too. Your so right with not overloading the MJ learning curve. The MJ team are getting better at delivering what actually works in their betas.

Exciting updates all around. Adobe's features going commercial is exciting for Photoshop users. It's pretty much ever changing these days and fun to follow.

Agreed! It’s funny, anytime Adobe comes up, there is always this undercutting aspect to my commentary. I do have a love/hate relationship with them. I guess we’re an old married couple. But the commercial usage aspect, I really think is just some PR fluff. I have yet to see anyone sued (successfully) for copyright or trademark infringement, and I don’t think it’ll ever actually happen. I mean, if I print a genAI Mickey Mouse tee shirt, that’s one thing, but I’ve seen plenty of MJ-style web banner ads, or Amazon Book covers. To me, it just smells like Adobe PR copy. “Naturally Organic AI Images!” Haha, alas- back into Premiere!

I do love Adobe though since I've been a Photoshop fan for years but yea,I doubt these guys can acutally stop anyone from using their images commercially considering the idea you cant copyright Ai images (at least in the US). I could be totally wrong tho

No meshes huh? no problem, you *could* do a "turntable shooting" of your object or character inside MJ and export those images to your favorite photogrammetry app 😊

My favorite part is that my footage glitched in the section about Adobe Audio, forcing me to ADR it and borking the mic levels. There's a fantastic irony to that!

Everyday there's always some kind of new developement of A.I. It's amazing but at times it's overwhelming. Alot to learn, especially , when I am a self proclaimed analog gal livin' in a digital world. Thanks for the information I don't know how you can keep up with all this A.I. stuff! LOL. Good stuff. MJ needs to get this right - all of it. It hurts me, actually hurts me, to know how little we can produce on Suno as a trial, because it's just a beautiful thing. I'm actually preferring Pika's results. Great content. Love the little quips, which I hope everyone catches. Thank you. 👍

Thanks, Tim. The upcoming Santa Bag of goodies sounds amazeballs. HOWEVER... Not so sure about the "personality test." Will we be summoned to the Scientology Personality Lab where we'll be plugged into a discombobulator that monitors the sweat particles on the palm of our hands to gauge our reaction to questions like... 3. Do you browse through railway timetables, directories or dictionaries just for pleasure? 6. Do you get occasional twitches of your muscles, when there is no logical reason for it? 27. Do you often sing or whistle just for the fun of it? 30. Do you enjoy telling people the latest scandal about your associates? 59. Do you consider the modern prisons without bars system "doomed to failure"? [Actual Scientology questions, BTW.] I'll reserve my judgement on this until we can assess the release, but on the surface, WTF, MJ??‽!!!

I've heard that too-- and it has been mentioned slyly in Office Hours...no official word yet, but I think it is part of the "storytelling" feature they've mentioned a few times. I've been lowkey thinking 2 or 3 months. But that is totally speculation on my part.

a few weeks ago midjourney stop responding my imagine request in direct messages instead of the discord server as it always have done. the weird thing is that the progress of the image generation is show into the correct chat, but when it finishes, i need to go to the DM inbox to see de image. its a bug ? or something that has change? because it always worked fine and i didnt change anything

Hmmm. Maybe they changed something? I never go the DM route, but rather invite the MJ bot to a private server. You might want to try that!

I hear you, believe me. I can’t help but think costs will go up, but it’ll be a frog in water situation. I wonder if it’ll be a split pricing thing too? Like here’s a package for image only, but here’s a plan that is Image/video? But also, I don’t know if they’d want to split the user base that way.

There is Inverse (I believe it is called) that does do that with an MJ image! You have to do some fiddling with depth maps, but it CAN be done!

Love midjourney..however what’s your opinion on using it for business and potential copyright issues on the images used? Laws seem to be vague on the a.I front. ?

So, to preface: not a lawyer here! And not a copyright lawyer at that! But… It’s a mess currently. I believe the latest was that you could copyright AI generated material, as long as there was demonstrative changes made by a human. But what does that mean? And how do you quantify it? Do I have to change an image by 50%? 65%? And again: what does that mean? If I change something to black and white, I’ve changed it 100%. Does that count? It’s a lost cause in all honesty. The alternative is letting courts decide on what art is, and no one wants that. In my non-legal opinion, it is going to basically turn into “don’t ask, don’t tell” To be honest, I’m not sure the copyright office would even know, unless you explicitly state the material was created by AI.

We want 3d messhes. I don't care about navigating around a dumb image. I want to use that 3d to make movies - basically like Zbrush did.

Oh, I would love that too. I never got a chance to learn zBrush, but have known some wizards at it. It was/is a really cool program, that clearly does some amazing stuff if you know what you’re doing.

@@TheoreticallyMedia yeaj and funny it was originally meant to do these 2.5d type pictures and then became the number 1 program for 3d modelling. I have so many cool characters and once you can get into 3d format it can be used to create amazing things.

Haha, I've had a love/hate relationship w/ Adobe for a long time. I mean, anytime they come up on the channel, I notice I'm always extra critical of them...And honestly, I think it's fair. I've been screwed over so many times by an annual update the borks performance for some stupid widget that I'll never use. ...but sadly, I don't see them going anywhere. They've got such a vise grip on the market. We're going to be stuck with them for awhile. ...as I type this with Premiere open...sigh.

Looks like you are more invested with them than I am. Have been using their products for over ten years. Loyal customer base i.e. lol But just got my account validation issues on stock contributor. So much work went into building portfolio and blocked just like that, with no prior warnings or anything. The worst being I'm unable to get any sort of explanation from customer support, no response at all :) Not to mention my unclaimed earnings are still sitting there. Should have been claiming more often lol As for the products I loved a few, quite a bit, they're good. But their stock side of the hustle will probably go as generative AI get's more streamlined. I understand their struggle with AI generated content flooding the marketplace but even then they should not be treating their customers in such a manner and should sort that out :) Nice channel btw, i'll make sure to follow. I think this might be different than what you're thinking of. I know SD has a Blender plugin-- but that's not really what I believe MJ is talking about. I haven't seen anything in the SD world that lets you generate an image and then move the camera around in a 3D space. If you've seen it, please let me know.

Midjourney: We made 3-D images possible just for you guys our members! Members: Amazing, so we’ll be able to move around in 3-D in any angle or direction that we choose? Midjourney: Well “No” we are going to be restricting and be the one to decide how much movement and where exactly you move to, and where are you don’t, because we are like the APPLE of Ai Art and stuff.

Haha, I know. That’s sort of why I wanted to make this video too. I saw some of the chatter on the expectations of the announcement and was like: “guys, I don’t think that’s what they’re saying…” I’ll say one thing about Apple, they do the hype game REALLY well. That marriage of hype and innovation during the Jobs era was…I mean, impressive. I think even if you aren’t an Apple fan, you gotta respect the run from iMac, ipod, iPhone, to iPad. But, Apple was always really clear about exactly what their tech did. They were very good at communicating the possibilities. MJ, while I get the goal of being the Apple of Ai, I mean- that’s a part they don’t have yet. But, they are young. In Apple terms, they’re at the PowerMac era…

I love Midjourney....but the Discord image generation, tools and UI overall blows @$$ and is getting extremely tiresome to use to say the least. Leonardo AI, and other AI Art platforms are about to take over, if Midjourney does get off their @ss and build their own web UI with high performance tools like in/outpainting, models, larger image generation, etc...

Same! I am a fan of Leo as well. On the docket I do have a “Leo for the MJ user” video I want to do! I think a lot of the MJ crowd has looked at Leo, but gotten overwhelmed (this is a lot going on there!)- so breaking it down in MJ terms might be a fun challenge

I mean. They are on it. I’m curious to see what their web UI is going to look like. Also curious about the “simplified” version of the website. Does that include in/out painting? Etc? I’d think it has to, but MJ also has user data and knows how many of us use it. I don’t mind Discord as a platform, but I know there are plenty who dislike it. The part that gives me pause on the Web Ui is the “social” element. On Discord that happened organically, but I’d hate if there was some “forced socialization” on the website.

True, but I don't think Midjourney needs to do anything new. They can just tastefully implement new technologies as they appear. Midjourney's secret weapon is their massive user base.
