My goodness 51 years ago in 1972 I was an 18-year-old teen rocking and rolling and dancing to this song at my high school senior prom. Now I am a 70-year-old man and senior citizen watching others enjoy the music of my youth. Awesome stuff ladies. Allways liked your choice of songs and the reactions to them. Note: After 51 years I never realized that the undercover agent who's working for the FBI was Shot. That is why the DA man and the "The Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" was holding him up by the hands and arms. Telling her she will be spared. WoW!

That simple guitar riff with that insane bass... Perfec'! I'd expect that bass player to be chained down for others' safety.

I was at their first live gig in 1962, it was at the Oasis club, Manchester, and I was young 18 year old, never thought I would be listening to them 60 years later. Thanks for the memory.

Their song Bus Stop is one of the best examples for songwriters on how to tell a story with simple, succinct lyrics. Amazing stuff.
@BobSoltis1

"Bus Stop" was written by the legendary Graham Gouldman about his own experience riding the bus to and from his dad's shop where he worked. He also wrote the huge hits "For Your Love", "Heart Full Of Soul", and "Evil Hearted You", for the Yardbirds. Another Hollies hit he wrote was "Look Through Any Window". He went on to form the group 10CC and penned many of their hits including "I'm Not In Love", and "The Things We Do For Love".

Fun Fact: One of the main original members from the early 1960s: Graham Nash left the Group to be part of a "Super All Star" Californian/Canadian Group called Crosby,Stills, Nash and Young".:)

The Hollies had more hits in the UK than the Beatles, and very successful in the 60’s and early 70’s. Also Graham Nash from Crosby, Stills and Nash (also Young), was a founder member and left in 1968/69 I believe.

Allan Clarke was a superb lead singer; underrated imho in the main because of the time. There were so many great singers popping up - almost weekly. Tony Hicks a great lead guitar who told Allan; if he liked performing the riff so much why don't you play it?. The rest as they say is history...

The story of the lyrics comes from Scotland back in the 1800's. A young girl was carrying a baby boy, almost as large as she was. Someone saw her struggling and commented she must be tired carrying so large a load. She replied, "He's na heavy. He's mi brither".

Great reaction; As usual, this is not my favourite song on the album. I had this album and it is well worth getting as it is full of good ones. The other hit from the album, Long Dark Road is the one I would pick over Long Cool Woman. Cable Car, A Little Thing Like Love, To Do With Love are all super songs.

Ah yes. This was our partying song, when I was in High School except... we had no idea what the Lyrics were, or we would not have liked it. I mean the guy's singing about working for the FBI, busting people, but sparing her, (the long cool woman in a black dress). The Lyrics make this song into the antithesis of what we stood for. Pigs... (lol).
