But to believe that man came from ape is just wrong, scientifically but especially Biblically. If humans evolved, then millions of years of death suffering and disease existed before man, and according to Genesis 1:31, GOD calls His creation very good, so that means you must believe GOD called death, disease, and suffering good, compromising HIS very own character! If death existed prior to man, then death did not come about as a result of sin. It is clear in the Scriptures that both spiritual and physical death came into the world as Genesis 3, Romans 5, 1 Corinthians 15 and much more teach. To believe that death was just spiritual is not considering what the very passage says: Genesis 3:19 - ""In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”" If death existed prior to sin, then death is not the wages of sin, that means that death would not be the punishment for sin, contrary to what Romans 6:23 teaches. If death does not wage/pay for sin, that means that Jesus Christ's death on the cross did not pay for our sins and now you got a problem! You cannot believe the lies of mainstream science and the Bible without compromising one or the other and sadly the only one that gets compromised is the Scriptures. They take GOD's Word poetically and man's word literally. Above all my brother, pray to GOD for the truth and be open to His answer, unless you do not want to know the truth, but as followers of Christ, we must always seek the truth, as "the truth will set you free".

Really? Did Jesus Christ set up a system to cause death and suffering over billions of years? GOD HIMSELF tells us that 7 days are 7 normal days, not 7 days "to Him" as they can just as well be one day, or six, or 2, so it completely removed meaning from the Scriptures. Exodus 20:11 - "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it." GOD commands Israel to keep the Sabbath, why? Because HE Himself did. Those who disobeyed were to be put to death: ‭‭Numbers 15:32-36 - "Now while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. They put him under guard, because it had not been explained what should be done to him. So answer this question: If GOD did not really create the universe in 6 literal days and rested on the seventh day, why must Israel work 6 days and keep the Sabbath on the 7th if the only reason given to them by GOD is because GOD HIMSELF rested on the Sabbath after creating the world in 6 days? To say it was "6 days to Him" is completely missing the point. Those who did not keep the Sabbath were to be put to death, why would they be put to death for not keeping the Sabbath if the reason to keep it was because GOD did, if GOD didn't?

The very point of the song is that assuming a literal view of Genesis is not the only (or automatically the correct) way of reading the book. You disagree with their interpretation, preferring a literal reading, and that's fine. But don't automatically assume you are correct in this. There are very good and logical (as well as theologically compelling) reasons for preferring a more non-literal approach. For reference, I used to prefer the literal approach myself, but eventually found that it requires too much in the way of mental gymnastics. The big problem is that there is a lot of evidence you have to ignore or reinterpret (e.g. age of the earth, the fossil record and various other things), and ultimately I realised that it was intellectually dishonest. Faith is believing God when you can't see evidence of his action, and He requires this. But God NEVER asks us to see evidence and then deny that it is real - that would be foolishness.

@@iandavidson471 20 years ago I would have said much the same as you. However, I went through some pretty awful realisations. I realised that I'd been lied to by Christians, and worse, I'd passed those lies on. A few examples: I found that literal creationists had lied to me about how the theory of evolution worked, what the evidence for it was, how rocks were dated, flood geology and others. I came to a point where I realised that so-called "biblical" creationism was incompatible with an honest look at the evidence. If the Bible genuinely taught that creation happened in six literal days, I was down to two choices - 1) screw up my eyes, pretend that the evidence didn't exist and stay as I had been, or 2) Admit that the Bible was false. My faith hung by a thread. Thankfully, (I have no hesitation to say!) God made sure I became friends with some serious, Bible-Believing Christians (conservative evangelicals, no less!) with serious chops in high level science. From these people I learned the third option: 3) Understand that the creation account in Genesis had an intent other than to provide a literal narrative of Creation, in which case it remained inerrant (just not literal), and continue to cling to Christ for salvation. I will never stop thanking God for how He came through at that time. I don't think I'd still be a Christian if he hadn't.
