I used to own a headlight restoration business and is completely unnecessary to separate the lens from the housing, you only do that when there's really bad damage internally, or for customization. A rotary polisher with some 500 grit to 3000 sanding disks get the job done great, use some polycarbonate polish and protect with UV silicone based clear coat, the one that cures with UV rays. This guy's hands are working way to hard for this, also if headlights are on the car is the best way to work on them. I guess some of us like doing things differently, Respect to this man working hard and earning his money in a honest way.

The yellowing occurs from UV clear coat breaking down, a barrier that protects the plastic. Sanding it off and polishing the plastic will have it looking like new for about a year. For best long term results it needs to be recleared with UV resistant urethane.

no he isn't... nor he is doing to save money or anything else you said there. the plastic shavings fall on the floor, then get blown around, they then get in a river and end up in the ocean, while in the ocean the plastic shavings will get absorbed by the marine life which we then ingest. thank you very much mr Light Polisher... he is not doing to save the planet, he is doing it to make money. dont be fooled.

I think the comments regarding not being necessary to separate the clear lens from the reflector are missing the point, this headlight has most likely come from a auto wreckers and been in storage for some time. Dust and dirt have collected inside and needed washing out, note the soap powder and gentle washing. This guy is not an idiot he knew the inside needed attention as well as an exterior polish. Fantastic restoration.

Well seems like a lot more work than necessary. There are sanding and polishing kits you can buy for $20 US to achieve the same results with far less work and without needing to remove the housing from the vehicle. They even come with a clear coat to help greatly prolong the results.
@napke85712 жыл бұрын
Nope, not exactly correct. He is also polishing the inside, that is the part wich causes permanent decreased light strength. With those stupid 20 Dollar kits ( we also have them in Holland here) it is a very temporary fix.... Most people only polish the outside and they do it mostly wrong also. Another very stupid thing most car manufacturers ( or very clever!) do is that you cannot only replace the plastic front of your headlight! And if you do it by force or heat..... Well place it back after cleaning and in many cases your car will not pass the MOT check... So only option is to replace the whole unit :(

Word of advice: Instead of a razor blade, you can achieve the same results with wet-sanding the lens with a rotary sander, like a Dremel, and using a grade of sandpaper that is fine enough to not take as much material off. The amount of plastic he is shaving off is detrimental to being able to actually do the job again, as car lenses are susceptible to yellowing over time, even if this is done.

People commenting negatively without understanding anything, & only to get rid of their frustations. 1. The residual sealant is quite enough to prevent leakage. If not, more can be added. Even if this does leak, what is the worst that'll happen. Get a grip people. 2. In the West the whole of the light would be thrown away & not recycled. 3. People worried about detergent being used probably don't wash their clothes. Maybe they don't use soap either. 4. Plastic shavings end up in landfill, nit a river. Lahore has a proper waste management system. 5. The guy is poor, alright. But he'd be unemployed if he were'nt doing this; someone else would be doing this instead. So, he is doing it for money, not the environment. But his skill & impact ought to be appreciated. He is making an honest living.
