@@abdelhakimessaadi9577 Phillip “Benny Squint” Lombardo was the official Genovese Boss after Don Vito passed in prison. Arguably just as powerful as Don Carlo Gambino. He is definitely the one who ok’d the hit on Jimmy Hoffa down to Fat Tony, down to Tony Pro. He was extremely discreet and way behind the scenes.

Am I the only one that gets a kick out of media outlets always having something to say about mobsters that turn and testify calling them rats and all this shit like theyre trying to be involved with the jail politics? I spent 8 years of my 20s in prison and I understand what happens to rats in the criminal and jail life and I used to be involved in the politics as much as the next guy but it's easy for reporters to mock guys that turn government witness. I always wondered if I was looking at life without parole ( even tho that doesn't exist here in Canada ) would I keep my mouth shut and I'd like to think I would but you never know until you're in that situation specially now that I have a little girl to look after. Good thing I'll never have to worry about having to make that decision because my daughter made me do a complete 180 in life. Now it's all about her and all my "friends" are long gone
@paceventura2 жыл бұрын
Seemed they reported on the mob using mob slang n calling him a rat was just their way of reporting it, as if that's what he is now in other mobsters' eyes.. N they also spoke more freely back then, you won't hear a reporter nowadays say "life in the can"

It's amazing how what they they new back then has been proven by time to be so inaccurate. Galante was never even recognized as boss of the Bonannos let alone the top dog of the five. His attempt and desire to achieve that is one of the reasons he was hit. The belief that Tieri was leader of the West side, even by another boss such as Fratiano shows how shrewd and deceptive the Genovese were/are. Lombardo-Benny Squint used Tieri as the face of the family at the time and it obviously served him well and obviously Chin thought so as he would repeat this act of deception in the future with Fat Tony Salerno. The difference was however that Tony actually did the time while Funzi died before having to start his sentence. As for Lombardo....he was smart enough to pass the torch before anyone figured it out. Another thing...that wasn't Testa pictured in the video and Testa was actually appointed by the commission with Tieri/Lombardo's blessing. He had nothing to do with Brunos death so the comment about the Bruno/Genovese agreement was another mistake made at the time. What is known today about Philly from Leonetti clarifies that situation and suggests the West side may have been behind the Bruno hit.

After watching documentaries about other families and seeing how destructive they were, the Genovese family are in a league of their own.
@mrfugazi67132 жыл бұрын
Yeah the Genovese family played the Bruno killing very well, Funzi told one of the captains to basically take care of Bruno which they did and when the captain of the Bruno family were called to New York Funzi turned it right around back onto the captain that was at the meeting with Gigante and the others and they beat the fuck out of him and Salerno who was in on whacking Bruno and stuffed dollar bills inside every hole that the human body has in a sign that they killed for greed, I thought they played it well and then when they killed the two that was directly involved they made themselves look really good but all along it was the Genovese family that more or less got Bruno whacked the dodgy bastards.

@Cardb332 жыл бұрын
@@mrfugazi6713 It's come out with pretty solid evidence that Fat Tony stayed out of that whole ordeal. He was already recovering from his stroke (might've been a heart attack I forget) at the time, he told Caponigro "Go see the man downtown". He wasn't opposing what Chin, Funzi and Manna were doing but he tried to stay out of it cause it wasn't his style. A lot of people have said that Fat Tony wouldn't have made a power move like that against another Family he was more laid back whereas Chin and Manna were younger, hungrier and had just became Boss and Consigliere respectively. Fat Tony liked spending those days at his Social Club barking out orders, collecting envelopes, playing cards and drinking Espresso with the guys.
@mrfugazi67132 жыл бұрын
@@Cardb33 yeah I agree with what you have put in your comment Brandon buddy, I didn’t put Caponigro because I wasn’t sure how it was spelt, so thanks writing his name down now I can spell it mate thanks. These news reports often get things wrong we find out as time marches on. At 4:35 the man shown was not Phil Testa nor did he have anything to do with the Bruno murder. Also Funzi was the front or street boss. The Chin was the real power. They report on the best information available at the time. I just find humor in their mistakes.
