Frank Alphonse "Funzi" Tieri died in 1981. He was the boss of the Genovese crime family.

The man who was said to be the real boss, while Tieri was front/underboss, appears at 2:08. His name was Phillip “Benny Squint” Lombardo and was a mystery to law enforcement for basically his entire career…

Good call. Philip "Benny Squint" Lombardo was the true boss even into the start of the Chin/Salerno regime. Lombardo ran the Genovese family like Chicago

Tieri was apparently strict against using violence unless absolutely necessary. He used to say instead of killing people who were in debt to the mob, squeeze them, hold off and then squeeze them again, thus creating a consistent revenue stream

This was all wrong Chin Gigante was the boss and the boss of bosses once Gambino passed away all the way up until he was arrested in the late 90’s.

First off you're making the same mistake that the media makes. There is no boss of bosses. The most overrated phrase that has been disapproved. 2nd the Chin doesn't take over the Genovese family until what many say in 1981 or a little after. Before him Philip "Benny Squint" Lombardo was the boss of the Genovese.

@rudyfat7073 3. Gambino was a different family. 4. The Genovese have a history of using front bosses to cover their tracks, funzi was one of them 5. Chin kept power until his death in 2005, the title went to his handpicked successor.
