Many parents are ready for more sleep and maybe even getting their own room back, but they're unsure of cry-it-out sleep training methods. What most parents don't know is that there are SO many different methods out there. I'm going to talk about my top 4 gentle sleep training methods. These methods work best between 4-6 months old, but they can also be used with other babies as well.

Following the eat, play, sleep schedule in that order is a very good tip. When I feed before sleep he doesn't sleep as long and usually is upset going to bed because he has colic and reflux. New moms: I can assure you there is light at the end of this tunnel! Eventually the baby will sleep through the night and it is going to be a GAME CHANGER!

I want to discuss sleep and general “transitioning” for my second baby coming in the fall. With my 1st, I coslept and breastfed for 2 years. I liked having her near me because I wanted to encourage that instinct and bonding especially after she was literally part of my body for 9 months... However, I struggled with knowing when to “transition” to the next phase and I found each transition was SO agonizing for all of us. Examples: > when to transition from being with mom (co-sleeping or bassinet for example), to say a CRIB + if baby is right next to mom in whatever capacity and they dry or wake are you grab right away or put arm on them right away doesn’t this make them dependent on you for that instant response (not saying it’s bad) just posing question of - does it make that later transition of them self soothing etc more difficult when you suddenly aren’t responding and what does this all look like. I mean at 3am I wasn’t into letting my 1st scream and scream when she woke so that my hard working husband would then also wake up. > when and HOW to cut off night BREASTMILK so that it’s easier and HOW/ what to do to get them to sleep and no longer be dependent on those night feedings? I felt like there was yelling and arguing because my 1st was a toddler when I finally took the milk away at night(2yrs). I couldn’t handle not getting any sleep after 2 years of giving my first my all. 🥹 Things I have been told so far: > I have learned/heard that not letting a baby fall asleep ON you if you’re breastfeeding so they don’t associate “I only sleep if I am on mommy” is a good place to start > putting them in a crib when they are tired but not yet asleep so they “fall” asleep in their physical space (crib) > that using crib for naps right away when they are a newborn will more easily develop the habit as opposed to car sleeping more than a crib or a side sleeper more than a crib.. > keeping a lot of noise so they can sleep deep in noise as opposed to being a 👻 when they are asleep. My first is such a light sleeper and we never made a peep! Sorry this is long winded. I don’t even know what my exact questions are. I just need a better flow and plan to be confident in this second time around that May have worked for several others. So please help! I am more open minded than I used to be! Any little nuance you can share I’d love to hear!!

Hi, I have a 3 month old (almost 4 months) and we are working on sleeping in her crib at naps. I have tried the nurse to sleep and weaning her time nursing when laying her down. I leave the room and 5-10 minutes later she is waking up crying. I have tried getting her back to sleep by consoling both in and out of the crib and can't get her back to sleep in the crib even though she is tired. Any thoughts on what I can try to help her sleep longer in order for her to get a good rest during naps?

In your opinion how does patt technique work? What is the ideal way to do it. Does this also lead to bsby sleeping independently eventually ? Coz mine is not. He cries the same amount even after 2 wks as he did first day. M not sure if m doing something wrong

Thanks for the tips. I have a question about the swap drop method. We bounce our 5 month old to sleep on a medicine ball. Do you recommend that we put him down in the crib prior to falling asleep? Also, what do you recommend we do, when he wakes up when we put him down?
@SlumberandBloom
@SlumberandBloom 2 жыл бұрын
You would have to use the pick up-put down method if you're not bouncing to sleep. So start with bouncing, put him down, if he cries, pick him up, then put him down when he stops crying. Do not let him fall asleep on you. If you need more 1:1 help, I'm happy to set up a consultation: hello.dubsado.com/public/form/view/605105deff03d8ca9676611f

I feel like I've always been warned to not pick my baby up when sleep training that it'll never Work in the long run... Right now I've started letting him cry 5 min or so then soothing him without pick up... I had picked him up one night for a very short time and it helped but I'm afraid of it being a habit... Could that back fire? We have had some very good nights with crying for 5 min and soothing him, and we have had really bad nights after the good ones... About how long should a gentle Ferber method take to see lasting progress? My older 2 kids, I was laying on their floors every night and army crawling out of their rooms a hour later... Sometimes they'd still realize I was gone... I just know now that it doesn't have to be that way and I'm determined to have an independent sleeper.

Picking your child up while sleep training isn't a bad thing. Letting him fall asleep on you when you do pick him up is what's bad ;) Ferber takes about 3-5 nights to see improvement, but you have to stay consistent. Hey my baby is 5 month old. Of we follow the Eat play sleep, if I feed her when she wakes up and she plays quite actively for around 2 hrs , she would be hungry before going to sleep. And even if she sleeps after 2hrs and wakes up after 30mins-1hour wouldn't it be a long gap between feeds. Just worried about baby being well fed and not hungry while sleeping.
@SlumberandBloom

Ok we understand the concept of sleep training but is there a point where the crying becomes so hysterical where you have to stop and intervene? We tried this method but after the first soothing our baby started getting even more hysterical after we left her again.

How does one fade away from the sleep prop baby wearing for naps - just holding/rocking doesn't help her fall asleep - she just cries, and if I put her down and she's not fully asleep, it starts all over again. Also, everyone is always concerned about night sleep, but naps are my problem, when the room isn't as dark, and everything she sees keeps her awake (too inquisitive) Soooo...?? Anyone with experience in dropping this sleep prop and having better naps? For 7 and a half month old Also - pick up put down - I'll have to pick up a billion times, because she gets crying even before I've even laid her down. She'll be in my arms more than in her bassinet.. Agh, this sleep training thing is a mission
@SlumberandBloom
@SlumberandBloom Жыл бұрын
Sorry you're struggling with naps! At 7.5 months, she should have a consistent daily schedule and naps at the same time every day. A more gentle method may be harder for her since she's used to the carrier for napping. You may need to go with a more intermediate method. Reach out if you need a custom sleep plan! I'm happy to help with a customized package if you only need nap help! www.slumberandbloom.com/free-evaluation
