We're counting down the least used stations line by line on the London Underground, and we've got to the last one! We finally get to the least used station out of all 270 of them - it's Roding Valley.
You can download the Entry & Exit figures for all Tube Stations here: tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publicat... if you want to see the figures for all other stations.
Least Used videos for Overground, DLR and the Trams to follow!

I knew it was still Roding Valley. It's actually directly on the London border. If you're on the eastbound platform you're in Essex, and on the westbound platform you're in London. edit: i just know this because of my logic, I used google maps.

@That Guy You could say the same thing with the Metropolitan line to Chesham/Amersham. A long time ago many underground lines extended well past London in order to connect newly built suburbs that would allow people to travel directly into Central London for work and other stuff. In fact the Central line used to continue to Chipping Ongar until 1994.

I live in Loughton and meet the local Transport Action Group at The Monkhams pub every couple of weeks but I've actually never boarded or alighted at Roding Valley station, I cycle because it's a lot less effort than going to Woodford and trying to find a loop train, or trying your luck at catching two 549s (one there, one back). I have actually ridden the 549 before though, I used to have a friend whose dad lived around the corner from Roding Valley Station.

South Woodford also has a barrierless footbridge with a similar design that people use as a cut-through. There's also a stepless underpass but it's a very long and shallow slope so it saves a load of time if you just cut through the station (plus it's pretty dirty down there).

Another quality video Geoff.☺ It always amazes me that there are places like this served by the Underground. Sitting by the river, listening to the birds, you would expect passing trains to be very occasional 153s, or 156/158s a few times a day. I remember, MANY years ago, I stayed in the youth hostel at Epping Forest and found it very odd, walking out of the forest to find red buses and the tube station. You seemed particularly impressed by the place and your enthusiasm is infectious. The Hainault Loop is the only part of the Underground that I have never used and it's certainly on my list - if I'm ever in London again. I'm sure this video will help the passenger numbers although, over 1000 a day is still pretty good - compared to my local station. All the Best from Plockton(about 24-a-day☺), Dougie.

I live half way between Roding Valley and Buckhurst Hill stations; it used to be my local station until Buckhurst Hill opened its step free entrance. There's really not that much point is using Roding Valley beyond the very rare through train to/from Central/Grange Hill. With trains every 20 minutes and terminating at Woodford, it's just easier to use Buckhurst Hill. And don't get me started on the 549, it used to be an hourly service, now it's just a really weird timetable.

I live less than five mins walk from Roding Valley station (that's my bush on the right at 5:45! :D), but despite that I tend to take to the longer walk to Woodford for the direct route into London, to avoid a potential 20 minute wait and the change at Woodford. Coming home from London, if you embark at Woodford you might get lucky and catch a Hainault loop train, first stop Roding Valley, but it's rare. They changed the times about three years ago of the direct London trains. There was one about 0804 which was ideal for morning rush hour, but then it got pulled. And yes, while I use the station rarely I do use the footbridge a lot to get to the shops on the other side. :)

Often thought that both with this station and Mill Hill East do you think it is least used because there are no ticket barriers? The passenger numbers count those who tap in and out but if you don’t then it doesn’t count you does it? I had this theory because you can get on and Mill Hill East and off at Finchley Central without tapping in or out.

Don't forget to do Thameslink, TfL Rail and CrossPurpleLiz line as well! Least used within Oyster card range, or whole lines, or of-already-opened parts... Actually, would be interesting to see the stations that will be part of crossrail but are already used by other lines, see what they're like and current passenger numbers.

A train every twenty minutes. Lucky people of Roding Valley. My local main line station in West London suburbia only gets one train every 30 minutes. Great video by the way.

TfL Rail is already open, so we do have a couple of the outer parts of Crossrail running shuttle services already (they just don't want to admit it is Crossrail). I would like to see the least used one of those. :-)

At the end,when you said you could do another station, I thought you were going to go 2 stops along the line to Grange Hill - the second least used station on the Underground. Just for a bit of bonus footage.

Ahh the central line, the cheapest way to get into London from where I live over in Harlow. (National rail is expensive!) I always like hearing the train announcers announcing stations I’ve never been to before, it’s interesting! I have been using the Central line for years but I’ve never been on the loop, nor any further than about Shepherd’s Bush. One day I’ll do that 😛 Always wondered what trains went to Roding, until I found out a little while ago the Hainault via Woodford service existed. Boggled my mind that did haha

it’s about time they extended the Central Line to Harlow. they would be amazed how many journeys would be made
@cleanycloth
@cleanycloth Жыл бұрын
@@rockerjim8045 Harlow Council wants to do it but I don't see how they would. They'd basically have to go straight through Thornwood (or maybe up next to the M11?) and end up round the back of Latton Common - doable but messy. I think what they're better off doing is extending the Overground to Stansted - Harlow already has Platform 4 that isn't used all that often, so why not use that for Overground services? It won't have Oyster but they can just enable the Contactless-only pads on it.
