The mass of overhead wires in Japan / Korea is because of frequent seismic activity. Much quicker to put back a few fallen wires than to repair massive underground disruption. Well done on the progress in recognizing written Korean, BTW! (True there were no circles included in the sign you looked at, but that's relatively unusual because the circle stands for the sound "ng", which crops up A LOT in Korean.)

22:09 i was just screaming at the screen saying taiwan lol then i forget i live in hk so i know exactly what it looks like and it does NOT look like that here's some pointers for next time: Hong Kong's more urban, so if its sort of rural/less big roads its usually New Territories, but those part are not as dense like in Taiwan. Taiwan's houses/residential area looks more JAPANESE because it was occupied in WW2 for quite some time. Taiwan has more motorcycles. and when i say more, i mean MORE. if you see motorcycles in Hong Kong, its usually expensive. Hong Kong has british like license plates. White in front, Yellow at the back. If its the urban part of Macau, it's VERY Portuguese. I mean you'll see the paved roads and think am i in portugal? The smaller island of macau is filled with new casinos (north) and VERY rural houses (south) And yea, all three use traditional chinese writing, so the writing WILL look the same. You've got to look at the street signs. if it's black and white like in britain, and has English names, it's Hong Kong. If it's green it's usually Taiwan.

Hong Kong drives on the left (former British colony), so that can be ruled out since all the cars in the pic are LHD. Also almost every building in Hong Kong is a high-rise or near one. Also very few scooters in Hong Kong. Not enough English writing for Singapore. Bottom line: If it's a bit shitty and grimy it's often Taiwan (sorry Taiwanese, I love you)

I've always found it rather confusing that Tom doesn't look at the steering wheel placement of parked cars and only gauges whether they're driving on the left or right if it places him in the middle of a busy road. Even if it's a country where there's a mixture of RHD and LHD vehicles, you can usually tell whether it's LHD or RHD dominant. That being said, he also nailed Vladivostok in another video by accurately pointing out that even though Russia is LHD, imported RHD cars dominate the streets in that region because it's much closer and cheaper to bring them in from Japan.

That was my sister's take away when she visited Taiwan. :P Her friend told her it's because it's so wet and humid that the buildings take a bit of a beating. It made sense to me because that grimy stained concrete look is what always pops in my mind when I think of hot and muggy Florida.

22181 for me. Absolutely gutted I missed the Valencia sign. I zoomed in on Barcelona then Valencia and then decided to go back to Barcelona. First one I chose Switzerland near the French border so I was in the right area. And for some reason we both randomly (wrongly) picked the same Korean city. I've been to Taiwan so those road signs were pretty obvious to me. I love Fridays! I'm 2 for 4 against you on Urban World! Keep doing them!

First time playing along, was loads of fun! 1. 3464, thought I was in Italy, crap score 2. 4222, saw the sign and knew I was in South Korea. Saw the same red sign you did and also noticed the first character on there matches the first character of Seoul, so went there. Wasn't Seoul. 3. 5000, not much to say. Found it funny that you didn't zoom in on the huge sign saying "Great Howard Street". 4. 2254, thought I was in Italy once again. Maybe I need to stop assuming Italy every time I see white buildings 5. 1902, saw the road sign and thought I was in Shandong, China. Wasn't. 16842 points, putting me at #310 on the leaderboard. Oh well, maybe next time I'll do better.

Just a heads up, in several videos you say Belgium and France can’t be told apart but as a Belgian who also lived in France and the Netherlands I can tell you that architecture wise it’s really different most of the time. There’s a lot of red bricks used without white pattern in Belgium while there’s usually more stone houses in France. Some northern French towns do use brick a lot but the pattern, type and general look of the buildings are usually different.

had a damn good one here if I say so myself 1. Spotted wheelie bins saying Nancy so got to the city pretty quick, and ended up pretty close. Would've guessed some random French city otherwise though. 4,997 2. Recognised the Korean, got mid-level city vibes so went for Daejeon. 4,600 3. Recognised the yellow bus stops as being Liverpool, then the big sign and BMW dealership made it pretty easy to pin down the location. 5,000 4. Signs being in Spanish and something that looked almost like Spanish but not quite - got me thinking Catalonia, spent ages scrolling around Barcelona but couldn't find anything that looked right (most of the roads there are at 45 degree angles and this one wasn't) - eventually had the idea of trying Valencia, was lucky enough to spot a bar called "Cavallers" and got down to the exact spot. 5,000 5. Thought it was Taiwan from the street sign and general look of the place, didn't know the city. Went with Taichung since it's central. 4,528 Total - 24,124 record: beaten! (okay i'm a year and a half late, but let me have this one)

One thing I noticed: When you see cars in traffic, you immediately say we're driving on the left/right - but you never look for the position of the steering wheel or the wipers of parked cars to identify right or left traffic. ;) That and the partly English writing made me think of Taiwan in the last round.

22598 points: 1. I knew it was french language and I saw Nancy written on garbage bins, got just under 1km away. 2. I knew Korea from the Hyundais and looped pictograms, I by pure luck guessed Daegu 3km away. 3. I saw the Liverpool and Manchester sign and all the A roads fried my brain so I just guessed halfway between Manchester and Liverpool lol. 4. I knew it was Spain and saw a sign saying Valencian but a grafitti sign saying Malaga that was less blurry, I ended up guessing Malaga, bummer! 5. I saw pictograms with no loops and saw a stop line on the right side of the road, I thought it was Chinese and correctly guessed Taiwan, but went for Taipei on the other side of the island.

Found the street. - 5000pts Round 2: Green license plate and Korean writing above the door. Guessed Daegu and got incredibly lucky - 4987pts Round 3: Obvious roadsign. After some searching found the BMW dealer and Costco. Unlucky because up the road there was another BMW dealer and Costco... - 4999pts Round 4: Saw the "La Valenciana" shop and the menu of the restaurant had "Paella Valenciana" on it. Knew it was Valencia but couldn't find the street. - 4999pts Round 5: Green streetsign. Gave Taiwanese vibes. Guessed but got wrong city - 4288pts

Round 1 (4996 pts): Knew it was France by the cars/architecture. Zoomed in on the garbage can and could faintly make out "Grand Nancy". Searched around for a bit and then placed my marker in the middle of Nancy. No street name or anything to specify the location further. Round 2 (4203 pts): Knew it was Korea based on writing and cars. Had literally no idea where in korea it could be, so I tried to go somewhere flat because I couldn't see any mountains. Ended up going in Incheon which was NOT the best guess Round 3 (5000 pts): Pretty easy round. Spawned right in front of junction sign. Figured we were in liverpool because of the airport sign. Saw sign for "Great Howard St" and searched the map. Found the Williams BMW on the map and lined myself up with the bus stop. Round 4 (3398 pts): Knew it was Spain almost immediately but had a very hard time picking which city to go. Had to guess and ended up going with Seville because most of the streets started with calle and I saw a sign that started with calle. I know it stupid but I was desperate. Did not see the blue sign :c Round 5 (1666 pts) Really thought this one was Japan. Thought the writing looked Japanese. Placed my guess in Fukuoka Total: 19263pts

1. If you zoom in reaaaaaaal close, the recycling bins say Nancy :) still did worse than you! 4988 pts 2. Completely random guess in Daegu, honestly thought I had clicked on Daejeon and was disappointed to see your result lol - I was only a kilometer away! 4995 pts 3. Same as you :) 5000 pts 4. The image is totally different now, there's a restaurant called "La Valenciana" - I scoured far and wide for the street names and the best I could do was finding some historic market, there was a sign for the "mercado" district which I guessed could be the market district. Wasn't too far off, I ended up 366 m over, which came out to 4999 points - not bad, but kind of devastating to lose that point after how long I looked lol 5. Also a different image now, there was a fan called "dc inverter" that I saw the last time geoguessr dropped me in Taiwan, and it looked similar to that last image, so went for an educated guess in Taiwan, I said Taichung City because it's in the middle, so not bad. 4535 pts It's 3:43 AM but totally worth it bc I beat you lmao (24517 pts). Can't believe it. Time for bed

The last one was screaming Taiwan for me. If you see traditional Chinese writing as well as English but the buildings look vaguely 80s/suburban Japanese, you can pretty much believe that it’s Taiwan. It doesn’t feel like Hong Kong because most flat areas of Hong Kong are so so dense.

A good tip for Taiwan: just about every street will have that fan-shaped fixture that you see sticking out of the building on the left side at 17:55 behind the AC unit. It's often illuminated with colorful flashing LED lights and it denotes the location of a hair salon I believe. It really is on just about every street in the cities. Often you can see half a dozen of the from one view.

This never gets old! 1. I went with Zurich because for some reason, this didn't look French, I can't identify cars, I'm shit. I don't think he's wrong as I'm listening to him as I'm typing this. Obvious France, I get 4250, but man he does really well. 2. Korean, no inclination as to where in Korea, so I went with Daegu, fairly central. Thinking not Seoul? But who knows. He goes Daejeon, and I get the MONEYYYYYY 4996 let's goooo. 3. I found it, this has to be a 5k. wasn't too hard to deduce where we were based off the sign. Found only a couple roads that were PERFECTLY north-south, and quickly located the Williams dealerships, the costco thing. Pretty easy. I'd be shocked if he didn't get this 5k, this is his wheelhouse. 5000 4. Thinking obviously Spain, and about to go somewhere random - when I decide to peek at the Graffiti. BAM. Malaga! It could be meaningless, or it could be EXACTLY where we are. So I went in Malaga after briefly looking for the two street names. Let's see what he does. Huh, I missed that that sign said Valencia..... interesting. I wonder who's right. Fuck's sake, of course he is. Troll Graffito. I get 3572. 5. idk what I'm doing, but I feel like it wasn't Japan or japanese writing. So I went Taiwan. I could be so wrong. But I went Tainan city because it didn't look like the capital if it is Taiwan. I considered Hong Kong, that's where he's going. He could be right. I don't understand why he discounted Taiwan so quickly. The English writing? I've seen that in Japan, Taiwan, and Korea. YES I'M RIGHT OMG, and it was FREAKING TAINAN CITY AS WELL. 4995 let's GOOOOOOOOOO. Final score 22813. Holy smokes. Great for me. If it wasn't trolled by a graffito maybe I would've searched harder and seen the Valencia sign, and this would have been 1500 better. I can't be too angry about the Switzerland guess, it was close anyhow. EDIT: HELL YA I BEAT HIM BY 32 DAMN POINTS. and 21st on the leaderboard as I type this, far and away my highest placing

1. Guys, I have to brag about this one. I saw "Grande Nancy" on a green trash container, so I felt pretty sure about the city. At the end of a street you can vaguely see a weird pattern, which seems to be several parallell tunnels or overpasses (I thought it was a toll road). I went into Nancy looking for a toll road with parallell pay stations, but then I noticed that the railroad has 10 parallell tracks. So I looked through the city for a road in southern direction that would overlook this shape of railroad track in the background. 3 min and behold, I nailed it 5000! I'm proud like a child who done well at school, cause I knew not many would get this one. 2,3,4 went great, only 500 points down, blew a great run on guessing Japan instead of Taiwan. Guess I have to learn to differ better between Asian languages, if I am to be competitive. www.wikihow.com/Tell-Chinese,-Japanese,-and-Korean-Writing-Apart

1- Went for Dijon instead of Nancy because the architecture was quite similar and I mixed them up. Forgot to look at the hill that was north. ~200km 2- I recognized south korean writings, and tried to go for a fairly big city that was sort of in the middle, and went for the right one. 2.3km insane luck. 3- I knew it was Liverpool and just followed the signs and buildings like you did. 5 meters. 4- I really thought it was Catalunya because the streets were called "carrer" and not "calle", also there were words like "dels" which don't exist in Spanish. Unfortunately I didn't carefully read the sign that said "Valencia" and went for Barcelona. ~300km 5- I was hesitating between Hong Kong and Taiwan, and went for Hong-Kong because I thought it looked more "urban" and "civilised". ~600km 21645 points, still happy with this score !

Went for Barcelona, haven't seen the Valencia clue.... 4030 points, is okay. 5. I remembered a picture a friend who visited Taiwan did send me that looked similar, so I went for it. 1. Looks like the Netherlands but traffic signs are French, so that's Belgium for sure. *turns around* Oh! There's an A on that car, it's in Austria! Well.... But what about their French neighbours? Going for Lucerne, Switzerland: 4203 points! 2. Yellow sign almost looks readable, so can't be Chinese letters. Zoom on Japan and see a place called Nanto, put my marker down with confidence (since the previous location was Nantes it's just logical). 2919 points and my total score from a few weeks ago is already beaten. 3. Liverpool and Manchester, what a helpful sign. Lazy marker on M62 ~10 miles from Liverpool gets me 4941 points. 4. This looks so Italian. Had a quick look at the graffiti for clues, surprised to see "Ultras Malaga" and not "Juve merda". Málaga Centro, 3578 points. Not a disappointing score until you pointed out the Valencia sign. But hey, 2 countries in a row.. Get in! 5. Another Asian city... Last time I guessed Japan but it was Korea. Not getting fooled again... Guessing Gwangju, Korea. 1715 points. 17350 in total.

Round 2 Made back some points here, went South Korea and guessed Daegu right, 4980 W- 8612, GW- 9588 Round 3 Looked around Liverpool for ages, found all the roads but couldn’t work out where it was, 4991 points W- 13603, GW- 14588 Round 4 Both got Valencia, gained a solid 2 points. I was now down by 983 going in to the last round Round 5 Fuck this was tense. At first I thought Japan, but Chinese-looking language made me change to Taiwan. I guessed Taipei, got 4145 points. I knew this would only be enough if u didn’t go for Taiwan. Started to celebrate when u ruled it out, and then I realised how fkn close Hong Kong is to Taiwan. However, I only needed to gain 900 points, so surely I’d be ok, right? W 4145-3200 GW W 22742-22781 GW fkn devastating ;( That makes it 8-3 to GW *sigh* If only I’d been smart and gone in the middle of Taiwan...

1. Thought the hills/river matched Strasbourg, so I went there 2. Picked up Korea right away, guessed Daegu for a cool 4978 3. Costco was a big help, I initially thought it was outside of Liverpool before finding the exact spot 5000 4. For some reason I became convinced it was Florence, so I missed big time. 5. Was stumped, decided on south west Japan, another big miss 17799 for my first time playing, including one perfect score.

I too am amazed at how much you know about makes and models of cars...! (Myself, I can just about distinguish between "big car / small car" and "white car / blue car /etc." "Rappel", BTW, means "reminder / repeat". (And black-on-white makes it France, not Belgium). Your final guess of Nancy was amazing: in the absence of anything more definite that architecture really could have been in any large town in France!

23559, my best playalong so far! 1. North France is my only clue. Went with Reims, 4436 points. 2. Clearly South Korea, wanting to go fairly central I went with Daejeon just like you, 4600 points. 3. I know it's Liverpool but I just can't find the spot. 4988 points. 4. Amazingly I took a shot and went with Valencia without having seen the sign. Can't find the street names though, still ended up quite close, 4998 points. 5. Recognized Taiwan immediately as I've spent some time there, went with Taichung instead of Tainan. 4537 points.

21646 for me. Only rounds that hurt my score was going too far North in South Korea and too far West in France. Picked the right country every time. Perfect scores in Liverpool and Valencia.

Overall score 22451. This format is pretty good for getting high scores. 1. 4430 - Knew it was northern France but wasn't smart enough to look for hills to the north. Guessed in Reims. 2. 4705 - Knew it was South Korea from the writing, didn't know where so guessed Busan. 3. 4991 - Knew it was Liverpool from the sign, got pretty close but couldn't be bothered to find the exact location. 4. 4037 - The buildings plus the spanish writing meant it was Spain. Wasn't sure which city. I saw the billboard but didn't make out Valencia. Guessed in Madrid. 5. 4288 - Saw traditional Chinese characters plus lots of plants in the city, so my immediate guess was Taiwan. Went for Hsinchu City in the north.

23,117. r1 it says Nancy on the bins. r4 I didn't see Valencia on the sign - I went for Barcelona. only certain cities call their streets "carrer" instead of "calle". r5 the green Chinese/English signs are pretty distinctively Taiwanese. cheers

1st Round: Thought France but went Marseilles. 3233 2nd Round: Went for a city called Cheongju. Very similar score to the wizard. 4552 3rd Round: Have very little idea of British geography but deducted we were in Liverpool and found the mini dealership. 5000 4th Round: Ended up in Barcalona for some reason. Not too bad though. 4029 5th Round: Went Hong Kong as well. Rip. 3200 20014 was my total. Pretty good for me.

"rue is a bae" 🙃 Spoilers ahead: Round 1 - got france but somehow thought it would be south: 3173 Points Round 2 - got south korea but went in the outskirts of seoul: 4308 Points Round 3 - Well that was easy 😂 5000 Points Round 4 - spotted to valencia sign straight away and guessed i would be close to the center by the looks of the street. had some shopping vibes to it for me. found the street right away too (by chance): 5000 Points Round 5 - Went for Shanghai for the same reasons you stated with he english road names etc and was sure id beat you when you placed your marker :( 2635 Points Total: 20116 Points (1742km) vs your 22781 (747km). The France one annoys me but am satisfied with the rest.

I played the challenge before watching your vid, but in fact I mirrored any of your guesses except for R4, where I did not see the Valencia billboard, but found a "Ultras Malaga" graffiti on the wall instead, so I went for Malaga there. In the last round I was so torn between HK and Taiwan and I didn't remember that HK had LHD. If I remembered that, I would have beaten you in this challenge. Still a decent overall score of 21363

1 month late but it was an extremely close game so I came to post about it : ) R1: 4990. Missed the "Nancy" bin label but worked it out from the architecture, estimating latitude from the environment, and the hill in the distance. Was very proud of this one. R2: 4234. Spent 30 minutes reverse-engineering Hangul using the map labels to work out the sign said phonetically "Se-Tak" so I could try to find districts with that name. Eventually gave up and picked a random (wrong) city. At least it wasn't Jeju. Afterwords I googled and found out that Se-Tak meant "laundry". Naturally. R3: 4998. This Liverpool one is pretty easy to get 5000 on but I accidentally picked the wrong BMW dealer 500 m north. R4: 4025. Very unfortunately missed the obvious Valencia sign and picked Madrid. R5: 4550. Correctly pegged the country as Taiwan. Picked Taichung City as it was in the middle of the country, it was wrong but it got me the points. Final score: 22797 to your 22781. Won by 16 points, first time I beat you : ) I spent 100 minutes to your 25 though. Going super tryhard just this one game has given me tons of appreciation for your skill at this. Looking forward to more videos, I love your channel!

This one was pretty damn fun. 1. How? How do you always do this? What a ridiculous guess. It personally reminded me of Grenoble which I once visited, has hills all around as well. So my score wasn't that great. 2. Went a bit too far north so got a smaller score. Kind of a boring round, just a pure guessing game. 3. This one was pretty easy to get. The signs, the name of the street, the shops and stuff. Got a perfect as well. 4. God, that's one lucky sign. I too spent way too long scrolling around but I finally did manage to find the street. So I beat you there with a perfect score. 5. I managed to get Taiwan. From the few games I had there, it did kinda look like this. Got 4,5k. Overall got 22724, so only like 60 points behind you. I'll take it.

1. The signs and cars are clearly hinting on France, but where in France, no idea... Probably not an enormous city so I went for Bourges, 3943 points (well played with Nancy) 2. Looks like Japanese writing to me. But this could litterally be everywhere in Japan, for my knowledge at least. So a safe gamble, going for the middle, so that means Tokyo. Well that's a bummer, 2446 points. 3. The signs kinda gives away that it is the UK, and although I dont really know the geography of the UK, maybe this one is possible te get exactly right. The A5036 is really confusing me, the map doesn't seem agree with the sign. And apparantly there are 2 parts of the A5036 (cheated a little bit, I googled the A5036, but I will keep that by myself :p) so I finally found it. 5000 points 4. Spain, possibly in Catalunya, checked it with the word for street/road, so probably somehwere in Barcelona. Could not find the exact location, got 4036 points in the end, totally missed the Valencia sign :( 5. I hope the letters don't fool me again, going for Japan again, Nagoya this time around. Aaaaand I got fooled again... 1104 points -_- In total 16529, not really one of my better rounds this one, even with a little bit of cheating
