Most people take at least three attempts to quit. Anyone attempting to quit and who goes back on cigarettes....don't be hard on yourself. Try again. Remember, (as Alan Carr states) cigarettes only trick you into thinking the cigarette can give you something that doesn't exist. Only the temporary relief of the craving. Quitting smoking gives you what you were looking for all along.

More addicting than porn, social media, video games, weed, or alcohol for me... I’ve been able to quit every vice I have EXCEPT cigs. It’s insane how hard it is.

I'll never know if Champix helped or not. It probably did, but then I always felt it was they psychological/behavioural that was the hardest thing to beat for me, not just the drug itself. It was a HUGE crutch. That was still quite agonising. Then I got addicted to Juicy Fruit for a period (can't stand Nicotine gum).

When you’ve smoked for a while, you realise the key moment is that first one in the morning, after that you’re just trying to replicate that (and failing) for the rest of the day.

Similar thing with alcohol, in my opinion. The transition from sober to not-so-sober is very pleasurable. Any subsequent attempt to maintain that level of non-sobriety doesn't maintain the pleasure.
@BudduredToast2 жыл бұрын
That is so true. It got to the point that I would force myself to not smoke after 8pm just so that the morning ciggie would hit harder. And every cigarette after the first one was really just an exercise in diminishing returns.

@M2Mil7er2 жыл бұрын
If smoking was enjoyable and you miss it everyday, why did you quit? The reason people think heroin is enjoyable is because they're addicted to it. Same for smoking. Once you realise that cigarettes are foul, cancerous drugs, that trick your mind into thinking they're enjoyable, and desirable, you'll stop missing them, and be an ex-addict rather than an addict who doesn't take the drug.

Congratulations! Don’t give up! Been smoking for over 10 years. I’m 5 months 13 days nicotine smoke free. For me, it took more than just a change in habit, but also a change in perspective/ thinking. Things to remind yourself when your cravings are kicking in: -smoking is enjoyable but that’s only because you already had nicotine in your system. Everyone’s experience with their first cigarettes are unpleasant and gross. Best to never start or start again! (Try to stay cold turkeys for at least 3 month, it’s takes that long for your nicotine receptors in the brain to calm right down or 'switch off'/‘empty’. You’ll then be exactly to how you were when you didn’t smoke) -Cigarettes is one of the biggest con jobs made by big corporations, it claims to help relaxes or calms you down but it really doesn’t. You only feel relax or calm when you’re smoking to relieve your cravings, your newly found addiction then tricks you to think that cigarettes is benefiting you when it’s not, which leads you to a never ending loop of smoking a cig every hour. Just remember if you fall into this cycle, you are falling for the scam. No one wants to be victim of any scam. Don’t fall for the scam and don’t be a sucker! When you start thinking this way, all your favourite actors who smoke on screen look like a bunch of suckers and you begin to pity them -cigarettes are just not worth it anymore, money wise. With rising inflation, it’s harder to justify. If the prices for good cigarettes were the same as it was in the 60s-90s, it’ll be a different story

100% not for smoking but. none of these have ever applied to me? smoking tastes good, always has, i forget to smoke for months but when i get back to it i love it. i've never thought it calmed me down, nobody has ever claimed that to me. and money-wise it's complicated, if i'm out instead of a cigarette i might opt for a cafe or something which is way more expensive than smoking. like don't smoke if you don't want to but why is everyone so adamant that smoking amongst all addictive substances is uniquely not enjoyable or your own choice to make
@dietman2 жыл бұрын
@@fisticuffs12 hmmm I don’t know what to say bro. really? Your very first cigarette ever was enjoyable and tasted great? Are you a just a social smoker? Or you smoke on a regular? I remember feeling really sick when I had my very first cigarette. Also I always smoked cigarettes thinking that it’ll relax me and that’s what people usually say about cigarettes. Also everyone’s different, everyone has their own reason to smoke right?
@Anerisian2 жыл бұрын
Great! Keep it up. There is a popular myth among smokers that “yes, you may get cancer if you are unlucky, but it’s rare, and when it happens, so be it” and that’s not true at all. When I see the old generations, where smoking was normal, I see what effects it has on health. They pretty much all have shortness of breath that is debilitating them, sometimes severely. All of them have problems with their teeth and gums. All of them have poorer overall health and cardio-vascular issues of one variety or another. All of this is always swept under the carpet in the usual “cancer or fine” attitude.

@@fisticuffs12 hmmm interesting, well as long as it’s not effecting your life too negatively and you’re not smoking a pack a day, you should be fine. I’d say maybe consider switching to cbd weed? Should be cheaper than cigarettes if you smoke it from a bong. A lot healthy and more beneficial.

I quit smoking by procrastination, my greatest strength. I had a pack on my person the whole time, I kept telling myself I'd have my last smoke after dinner, then before I go to sleep, then when I wake up, after breakfast, ect. Oh my darling but it's know why someone would start smoking! I started to smoke at 35years old,i never liked the smell of it,i never found it interesting but i started at the lowest point in my life and i think it's the main reason of why i am still alive. My mother and father are smokers since a young age and it took me years,years of observing and analyzing the pain that my father was inflicting upon us in order to understand why my mother was smoking. It's a long story. But,as i said,i started to smoke 3 years ago and after my first ever psychologist and neurologist visits...both of them recommended me to smoke weed,sedatives and antidepressants were already doing it worse but....that's how i started to smoke and it actually helped me,it gave me quiet times and it helped me understand what relaxation is. second But.....i was smoking so much...that i got higher blood pressure,type 1 diabetes,increased rate of migraine attacks,apnea and now...some lung problems that it seems..with other problems...my brain is not getting enough oxygen. So yea.....4th time...and it's the f****** worst.

The only time I smoked was about 17 years ago. I had been driving all day to attend a funeral and during the drive back home I briefly without warning fell asleep behind the wheel. When my hands fell off the steering wheel they hit my lap, which is what woke me up. It all happened in only a few seconds. I was still some distance from home and naturally being worried it could happen again I pulled into the nearest gas station which was about a minute away and brought a small pack of cigarettes. I chain smoked all the way home. It did the trick. By the 5th one I was buzzing. But not willing to take any chances I soldiered on smoking another 5 before finally getting home. Once inside I went to lay down but I couldn't relax. My body was all jittery and about 30 minutes after I started feeling ill. I had minor nicotine poisoning. Which despite feeling like crap at the time. Turned out to be a good thing. Because I never wanted to smoke again after that. Giving the rest of the pack to my friend.

Here is my personal story of how i started smoking. My mother smoked through out most of her life. Only stop for 9 months while she was PreGargentuan(pregant) with me. She always told me it's a bad habbit and i NEVER should do it. When i was 7 she even stopped smopking in our flat, she always went out to the balcony. When i was 12 or so, i asked for a drag. I hated it and coughed for a very long time, so i knew it's not for me. When i was about 23 i was working as a security guard on festivals. We were going at night from one festival to the next. My collagues(except the driver of course) bought some cola and whiskey, so we drank. I wasn't THAT drunk, but i had a pretty good mood. And that's when it happened. A colleuge lit a cig and it's smoke blew into my face. At first i almost shouted at him to stop it becuase it's coming right at the back of the car, but for my surprise it felt nice. I even told him about it, so he lit another cig and gave it to me. I FUCKING LOVED IT. And i smoked like a pro XD, i've been told that i was smoking so naturally. I guess becuas i've seen it a lot from my mom and other people as well. Anyways. for a VERY long time, almost 2 years, i only smoke with some alcohol or coffe, and even then only 1 a day. But later we hit kinda rock buttom, and it was actually a lot cheaper to have a cig or two for dinner than to buy food. After i got a new job where the salary was a lot better, i couldn't smoke less, cus i was a security guard, which if fucking boring. Even tho i started 12 hours shifts, i smoked like 30 cigs that time. But for some reason, i cut it back. No idea why, but i barely smoke 6-10 cigs a day. I don't really plan to quit, becuase i don't feel any bad consequence. It's just waaaay too much pleasant after a dish. I swear smoking after eating is almost as good as eating its self :D.

many of the things i do with my life are things others don't deem desirable. it's just not about other people. i smoke like twice a week because i personally enjoy it. there are many things other people do that i wouldn't enjoy. it's just a basic matter of taste

I wound up smoking in high school because the people I hung around with did it. As dumb as that the the desire to conform can be a powerful thing and those people were way more interesting than the other cliques at that school.

I grew up around smokers in an unstable household. It wasn't until I realized I was trans and the having to keep that secret hidden, that I needed to find something to cope with. I have a history of abusing alcohol, self harming, and eating disorder like behaviors growing up. Smoking ended up becoming my go to so I didn't fall back into those other bad coping skills. Getting disowned by my family for being outed as trans and having friends help me out, ended up being the thing I ended up giving up smoking since I no longer had that heavy weight on my back to deal. I want to say it's been 3 or 4 years since I last smoked

My Dad was a smoker for most of his life, but during the Holidays one year we all got very sick with some flu, and he took the opportunity to go cold turkey. How often he'd go outside to have one, and come back with that odor, alongside what people told me and all of the terrible side-effects I had heard about smoking had pretty effectively kept me away from them. From time to time, he'll comment how much he'd love one, but I know he hasn't touched them since for a number of reasons. Glad that he's still around, I can't imagine how difficult it must be to avoid using them. I- and surely many others- are happy to hear you're off. You've got so much skill and wit, you're plenty cool even without smoking! And man, I can tell from both the amount of effort that went into the production of this video- the cigarettes spelling random blurbs, the cinematography, editing, all of the audio and SFX distortions... it's impressive to see from a one-man operation. Your videos have always been a treat, you have a real knack for it. Keep on keepin' on, Georg!

Well done! I hope you stick with it, as a heavy smoker myself I like to see people pack it in for their own sake. I am in my 40s now and I smoked since my teens, my working class parents (in a council house) smoked and essentially normalised it when I started at 13. They even provided me with a £2.50p pack of 20 Sovereigns a day, whilst they certainly normalised it as smokers who also started early in life I do not blame them. I made the bad choices myself, both to start and to persist. I have tried vaping several times and struggled, your success her is inspiring though so I might try again.

Oh my goodness how good this was. I've been smoking for 15 years and increasingly wanting to quit it, but that feeling what you described in this when trying to do so has been just way too strong on me. I just completely lose my mind when trying to get rid of them. Thanks for this video thou, as it gave a little more motivation to get there.

I smoked for 10 years and quit over 7 years ago. Even though I've had the occasional one when drinking I've not craved in years. It does get easier.

Been a heavy smoker for over 20 years. Just got a script for Chantix because I am a failure as a human being and can't do anything on my own without a pill. Haven't started it yet but I am hopeful. Above all else even my health, I just need the money I spend on smokes for other things. Two to three packs a day is expensive. Plus I would like to smell nice again. Well, glad you've made it out and here's to hoping I do as well. Thanks for the video, which really made me want to keep smoking.

Been following your stuff for years now but I've never bothered to leave a comment before. Good job on just starting the process to quit George. I lost my mom last year to a life long addiction to cigarettes and had to watch her gradually get worse and worse while refusing to quit, even being hooked up to machines didn't stop her. It's a horrible way to go and I miss her every single day. Leave them and don't look back. It'll be a hard road but you can absolutely do it.

Cigarettes is thankfully one of the few vices I’ve tried that doesn’t appear to stick with me. I have watched a few friends quit and know how hard it is. Good luck and as always, great video!

This. This is how I feel when I try and give up the stuff I love. The bad stuff The stuff If I tell someone I have an addition too, they don’t understand. They thing how could you be addicted to that, yet they are a addicted too. Nobody understand until you try and actually give up your voices. Life is so much worse without them. I’ve found that I can’t give up. I’d rather not be here than give up. Thank you for this video Georg. You lovely man. Hope it gets better for you but we both know the reality of that
