Carlin was always my favorite comic. So cool, always funny! AND everything he quotes is true. It’s amazing how he put it all together…AND this is an old video, so you can see how he is way ahead of his time. Shon, glad you saw Carlin and loved it! He is the intellectual comedian.

One of the greatest still so long after he left us. I'm ild enough to remember hearing shell shock and I was born in '81 6:39 very true and it killed people I loved. I will always call Carlin a outspoken protester, a philosopher, and a truth teller not a comedian. That we laughed and called it comedy is telling. We should have been standing up and yelling at the system not laughing at the funny guy. I'm not older .... I'm old and I am not afraid of dyeing. I'm afraid of living long enough to find out that we haven't hit rock bottom and turned the corner.

I will be 71 this year and so my Dad was in WWII and I remember Battle Fatigue being used. I grew up on a large supply of war movies at that time and both Shell Shock and Battle Fatigue were often coined in those movies. I was in my teens during the Vietnam war and I do remember when PTSD was being used. I also remember when Vietnam was called a conflict instead of a war ,and our vets coming home didn't get the same treatment as "War Veterans" did. It wasn't until the 70. "Congress authorized troop deployment in Vietnam, but, because it did not issue a declaration of war on North Vietnam or the Viet Cong, the Vietnam War is, technically speaking, not considered a war in the United States."

Some of you will remember him as The Conductor on Thomas The Tank (the other guy that played him was Ringo Starr of The Beatles FYI) but George hosted the very first episode of Saturday Night Live...his books are great and he narrates them and they come off just like listening to his stand up like this.

❤😂 This old, shell- shocked cripple loves this bit, George Carlin pulls no punches😂❤! First time I heard the expression "handicapable" wanted to hurl & punch something- I'm broke in half, physically FUBAR, a cripple- thanks George, for setting the record straight! Handicapable, what an insidious term, been called that, my reply was- Don't make me, make you, wanna hurt me...then I vomited on their sneakers...😂, ( okay, so I didn't really puke on their sneakers)... Carlin was/ is awesome 😎

George died in 2008, about a decade before people started using the term "Boomer" as it is used today. Before then it was simply Baby Boomer, referring to those born in the post WW2 baby boom. Lots of horny soldiers returning home to their equally horny wives + no birth control pill = myself and millions of other children being born between 1946 and 1964. TMYK ✌️& 🫶 from 🇨🇦 everybody!

While I personally am glad PTSD is called that now because most people who have it were never in combat, and they went undiagnosed and unhelped for way too long, George's greater point -- as always -- is spot on.

6:37 The term is usually either Tribalism, Us/Them mentality, or more popular during WW2 Jingoism...they label certain groups in certain ways to project certain emotions or lack thereof onto the reader...it's all a mind game...as you mention in the end, language, especially English is hard, to truly understand a single sentence someone speaks, you must contextualize their entire life up to that point to understand why they said what they just said, and that is a truly Herculean task that we all inevitably fail at some time or another...
