And lengthy entertaining or moving emails are nice, but can never replace the feeling in the hand of hand-written letters and of course the experience of reading hand formed words.

Well TBH Hugh Grant’s mannerisms & tics are iconic so a good imitation by a good impressionist would likely be possible without ever seeing NH aka still best romcom ever :)

Although I would argue p & p and s & s aren’t perhaps technically romcoms but more lighthearted literary adaptations ...which just so happen to have some romcom tropes because the romcom formula was modeled on some of those elements :-) crossovers for sure ... Four Weddings ... sigh ... best of the best, maybe even more than NH🙏🏻

I feel the same way about letters and emails, that's also why I keep writing postcards whenever I travel and it makes me sad that I rarely get one from others bc they've abandoned this habit

I’m a letter writer. Began when I left ny in 1974. Selfishly, it’s my therapy- way for me to stay connected. Best part is...people enjoy receiving my letters. They tell me how much it means to them.

When I first watched Shailene in this Late Night with Seth Meyers episode, my first thought was "It is nice to se she is doing well in her career after her final Divergent film was canceled. I would like to watch this new film she was in." I think Shailene Woodley should be happy that her last Divergent film, Ascendant (Allegiant Part 2) never got made because of her main character's dark fate. I watched Jeopardy a couple weeks ago for the first time in many years. The level of the questions has dropped dramatically. Seemed to me they used to have harder questions on the old teen competitions where only high school kids competed. Maybe Alex Trebek was also in charge of quality control.

It’s called the dumbing down of America. It’s OK to say it. You can see it in our schools, our social media spaces, films, pop culture etc. Americans today are less well-rounded, and more ignorant of substantive topics than previous generations, so Jeopardy has to play at that level.

I am one that has also never watch Notting Hill, it never interest me, but it's been my experience that when i done that i find i have truely missed out on some of my entertainment enjoyment. I still don't think I'll watch NH though. 🙂

To counterbalance the kids saying ugly things here in the comments, I'll say this: I get what she means with writing letters, despite me not writing letters by hand because of my horrible handwriting. All these crippled sentences in the texting world make me go nuts - and I grew up in the online era when acronyms, abbreviations, ASCII emojis and all that stuff began to pop up. But most people still tried to form coherent sentences, even in the heat of the earliest online games. Admittedly, it degraded pretty quickly. Today, though, when I see these mauled texts on very personal matters, it really makes me think it doesnt matter at all what they are trying to convey if they can be arsed to write it out properly. Can do that with an e-mail, but the premium class of written communication is of course the handwritten letter.

This!! I’m shocked and dismayed to read from your comment that there are those who don’t agree. I’m sad for the minds of young people coming up now. I too came of age in when we already had texting emailing etc (“elder millennial” here) but once decent grammar & forming actual sentences went out the window, something was lost.

What I want to know is why did Late night call it "rescued Shailene from a chaotic backpacking trip" ummmm it was a backpacking trip. Something you do when you're 19 and want life experiences. Don't write the narrative to make people click on a title

Why does she have a vaguely southern accent? I'm reading she's from California. Doesn't seem like an affectation. Seems genuine. But are there places in California where there are southern-ish accents or am I just really hearing it wrong? Also, just for the record, I think her voice and accent are great. I'm just a curious person.
