Händel posessed a certain quality that was somewhat lacking by JSBach himself: the changing of texture at precisely the right moment, very obvious in the first movement, the chromatic rising figure that also gets gradualy faster.

Very true. He knows when to thicken/thin out the textures at just the right moment so the texture never sounds too homogenous. He understood that sometimes you need to let in the air!

It is baroque tuning, so semi-tone below what actually written

It is in A Major, but it sounds like Ab Major because it is in baroque tuning.

shnimmuc You have a point the performances lack something you might add in mind when excited However to have more thsn two uplosds for them just introduced to the music? Pinnock and ensemble are all good musicians as a whole. I like you would have liked a bit more enthusiasm it judy wasnt there because recoding sessions.

That bit that starts low and sinister and resolves higher into a big nothing is maddening. Then he does it 30 times! My least favorite Handel work.
