I ran into George in a health food store in 1995, when he lived here on Maui. I was just Shocked. All I could do was leave him alone and not bother him. I always wished that I would have quietly just Thanked him for all that he gave the world.!! You close a refrigerated section glass door, turn around, and there is A Beatle.!! George Harrison. I couldn't think straight.! I was 42 then. Suddenly, now, I Am Sixty Four. Ba dum dum.

I love this song. It's interesting what George stated about this song in his autobiography. Seems the 70s were turbulent for George... I remember when my dad came across this song, when he'd bought one of Harrison's more recent compilation disks. He'd, I guess, never heard it, and took a liking to it, and listened to it frequently in his hospital bed in the months before his death. I was always a bigger Harrison fan than he. :) Makes the song a little more special for me.

Blow Away was popular when I was 20. I had my first baby and my sunny life stretched out before me. That little girl was sadly, very troubled from the get go, though we had many happy years with her in her childhood. Now she is lost to mental illness and drifting, who knows where. Though she is distanced from us who love her, it is a touchstone like George's beautiful song that brings back the joyful feelings of optimism of youth. It makes me feel the stirring of hope for her, yet again.
@mrfester428 жыл бұрын
Don't give up that hope! Like all of us, your daughter is still there, beneath the mental illness that masks her true self... her timeless self. Some call it the spirit or the soul. Whatever you call it, it remains and even if you don't see it (her) again in this life you will certainly see her again and all that you have done while she is hidden from you will bear fruit. Your daughter is still there and taking in all your love and she sees you loving her. Whether it is a prayer, or going to church or listening to this song, do what you must to stir that hope and keep stirring. Your daughter is NOT gone and your hope is what keeps her true self whole! I wish you Peace! PLAY IT AGAIN!
@EmpressOfWyoming588 жыл бұрын
mrfester42 Thank you, I am touched by you taking the time to write such encouraging thoughts. It is just what I need to hear.
@mrfester428 жыл бұрын
I'm happy that it helped. I wrote it for that reason and because I believe it. So much of what the Beatles have written has been a help to me for the past 5 decades and more. I don't get my beliefs from them but they do help to strengthen me in that regard and have done so for all my conscious life. Like George sang, "We are spirits in the material world!" Your daughter is still there, she still knows you and you WILL see her again. Continue being the loving mother you are, look her in the eyes when you speak to her and be happy when you are able. Whatever else you do for her, THAT is what is most important for her and you! PEACE to you Dear Mother!
@EmpressOfWyoming588 жыл бұрын
mrfester42 It occurred to me, I often try to encourage people, but don't usually have people try to encourage me. I guess I don't ask for help really. Sometimes I think maybe I am offering help and hope to people when they maybe don't want it. So I think maybe I should cut back on it. But your messages have changed my mind on that. Thank you again.

Wow Rick I can't believe you'd never heard this before. It was a decent hit for him in the late 70s. I remember hearing it in Kasey Kasems top 40 when I was a kid. The is my favorite George solo song. To me it best encapsulates what he probably went thru when he lost his wife to his best friend. That had to be horrible. Maybe the song isn't really about that but it it sure seems like it could be...

I always feel a little better whenever I heard this song. I still remember when, just after I lost my first job, I turned to music for comfort, and this song was one of the first to come to mind. At the time, I was overwhelmed with a sense of failure, and at a loss as to what I should do next. Those words "All I've got to do is to love you" and "All I've got to be is to be happy" really helped me get some perspective. Somehow I just knew then that things were going to be okay, if I just remembered those things and kept on going.

Day turned black, sky ripped apart Rained for a year 'til it dampened my heart Cracks and leaks The floorboards caught rot About to go down I had almost forgot. All I got to do is to love you All I got to be is, be happy All it's got to take is some warmth to make it Blow Away, Blow Away, Blow Away. Sky cleared up, day turned to bright Closing both eyes now the head filled with light Hard to remember what a state I was in Instant amnesia Yang to the Yin. All I got to do is to love you All I got to be is, be happy All it's got to take is some warmth to make it Blow Away, Blow Away, Blow Away. Wind blew in, cloud was dispersed Rainbows appearing, the pressures were burst Breezes a-singing, now feeling good The moment had passed Like I knew that it should. All I got to do is to love you All I got to be is, be happy All it's got to take is some warmth to make it Blow Away, Blow Away, Blow Away.

Discovered this (and all the other great tracks) on his self-titled album which I found in a used record shop in Cleveland in the late 70s. Best 50 cents I ever spent.
@BilisNegra6 жыл бұрын
That album came up in '79. There's no way you could have bought it for 50 cents on that same year. Please, stop making up stories just to sound interesting.

BilisNegra ...It might have been bought in a thrift store...back then 50 cents could buy you lots of cheap stuff that you can't get nowadays...🐒

Again, the album was then new. How could it have ended up in a 50 cent bargain bin or a thrift store for that price that same year?

BilisNegra they might be lying or they might be telling the truth. Either way theres no point to get so upset over such a small matter.

BilisNegra ...Maybe the album was stolen and ended up there...Go to any pawnshop or thrift store...some of the stuff there might have been donated or it might be loot...Happy Beatles Day...Every day!!!😁

The first time I, 've heard this song I thought it was Paul McCartney. I had only 15 years old in 1979. Then, at the end of the song, I heard the DJ saying it was a George Harrison song! The bass part sounds like Paul! Great song, by the way.

Funny, I thought when this song first came out I thought it was John Lennon.. Harrison and Lennon kinda sound similar in vocals, not so much with McCartney. But all four (including Ringo) are all legends!!

I remember when this came out. I was a freshman in High school. Or at least that was the first time I heard it. Spring 1979

My favourite George Harrison song of all time. When it came out in April 1979 I was just emerging out of a long illness, and when I heard the song for the first time, the happy, positive lyrics, especially the line, "the moment had passed just like I knew that it should" gave me a real sense of hope for the future and that I was indeed finally out of the woods.

I know how psycho it sounds to say that anything done by a Beatle could be under-rated, but this song and the whole album it comes from is really under-rated.

0:02 to 0:21 Even if you are in Nepal walking through the streets of Kathmandu and passing a small fruit and vegetable stand, and over the counter an old battery radio plays this slide guitar, you will immediately know that it is George.

Love this song. Remember going to the Beatlefest in the late 70's and early 80's? That was the only place you could see this stuff! What a treat that was!

This song makes me so happy. George and the chickie make me happy. George on the duck and his random thumbs up makes me happy. George is the best. His solo stuff is really great, he was definitely the underrated Beatle for his songwriting (I think Ringo was underrated musically).

First heard this gem in the Summer of '79, before entering my 2nd yr of High School. This covered up, or lessened the reminder of, stupid mistakes made back then (as well as the public embarrassment resulting from some of those mistakes), but today, I feel like I'm still paying the price. RIP, Sir...your music helped me thru some trying times.
