He was such a lovely man. I am not religious but always find this song so uplifting. The Krishna bits refer to when George embraced the Hare Krishna religion, following the period when the Beatles went on a retreat to India and stayed with the Maharishi RIP George 💙✊

George was a lovely soul....Deeply into spirituality, and tried to truly live the message. You cannot ask more of a human being than that. Some conservative Christians in the US got incensed that he was praising God in the words of other religions on a par with the only “true” way. It’s always been one of the most perfect songs of true faith I’ve ever heard. So many paths to God....Krishna is a representative of the god-head in the Hindu faith. Back in the late sixties, there were many young adherents to Krishna,......they were called Hare Krishnas....because they would chant on street corners and at airports this chant.....Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Krishna, Hare, Hare....meaning praise God, praise God etc...

@@lynda3860 what I liked is that George found a way to incorporate the essence of Indian classical music with western music and that led to some beautiful compositions. Ravi Shankar is a maestro. His daughter too is a great musician currently.

During the 60s and 70s the Hare Krishna kids would congregate on the corner of Hollywood and Highland Blvd’s in LA, and my parents would warn me with “Those are dangerous people. And Krishna is a cult!” Many years later, my spiritual journey would lead me to Bhagavad Gita; and my childhood example of Krishna consciousness bore no resemblance to the true beauty of the Hindu religion 💖

His voice melts me too. ❤️ It’s sad that The Beatles broke up but it did give George the chance to showcase his voice and song writing abilities, which Paul has admitted were underutilized when they were together. But, hey, when you’ve got arguably the greatest song writing duo in history with McCartney and Lennon, something has to give.

This song is so beautiful - I've always loved the sound of the acoustic guitar at the beginning. This song was played everywhere, it's so familiar and such a great melody. Gosh, just had a look on Google and see that it came out in 1970 - crikey, over 50 years ago, to me it seems timeless. George Harrison had a lovely voice and is so evocative. I really feel so lucky having all this fantastic music growing up. You don't always appreciate it at the time it was just there, but now it's wonderful. I don't mean that we didn't love it but there was so much we probably took it for granted. Many thanks for reaction, guys.

George needed to grow. He was younger and less musically experienced than the others when they started. He was especially insecure about his very. So, here's kind of a weird story. In the summer of '70, when I was almost 11 yrs old, my family went on a vacation to southern California to go to Disneyland. On that same trip, we took the ferry over to Catalina Island. While on the ferry, my older sister and I were up on the deck, and there was a group of hippie-ish young adults gathered together. A couple of them had guitars, and they were all singing this song; I distinctly remember the lyrics "hare krishna" and "hallelujah" and "my sweet lord." They were clearly having a wonderful time, and they sounded great. Neither my sister nor I had ever heard the song before, even though both of us listened to the radio constantly (rock, and pop) but we liked it. So then a few months later, we started hearing that exact same song on the radio! It was George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord." I don't understand how this song could have been sung by that group of young people on the ferry in the summer of 1970, although the Harrison record wasn't even released until November of 1970. Maybe one or more of them had been involved in the making of the record in some way?? I've considered that perhaps my memory is flawed, and that it was the summer of 1971 when we went to Catalina, but because of other memory anchors I have, as well as the fact that it was a #1 hit on American radio beginning in November and probably had been played a lot by the summer, so I would have certainly heard it before the summer of '71. I'm still willing to concede that I could be remembering it wrong, but it will always be a mystery and a puzzle that will bug me forever.

RaK - Hi mate, from what I can now recall about a 45 min documentary concerning the musical wizard who is, Jeff Lynne (E.L.O.) - Jeff was busy helping George to produce yet another new album for him at the time. George had previously asked him to help him, PauI and Ringo to produce at least one of their Beatles new albums they were having problems with at the time. Where Jeff worked a few miracles for them with songs with John's voice added. (Paul was actually on the documentary to talk about this . . . as were George's wife and son, I think.) I think that i remember it was after a long session in George's recording studio at home, and they were just chilling outside after it and talking about music, when they had a thought about making up a Super group with a few others. Jeff had already worked with Roy Orbison and Tom Petty on records. Jeff was the one who got Roy back into singing again by producing a song for him which got him back in to singing and then touring again. (Roy's wife was on the documentary to talk about this.) Jeff also helped Tom at the start with his Free Falling song when Tom asked him if he could help him out. (Again, Tom was on the same documentary and spoke about how he first met Jeff and asking him for his help.) - By the time this documentary of Jeff was made - sadly Roy and George had already been lost to us . . . Anyway, as they chatted about it, I think George asked him who should be in it. Jeff said Roy and Tom having worked with them before, and I think George knew both Bob D and the drummer personally, so they were all asked and all agreed to at least give it a go - and so The Travelling Willbury's were formed and appeared. If you can manage to still find the Jeff Lynne 45 min documentary on YT at all now (not the shorter one) - then it's definitely worth a watch to find out a lot of stuff . . .

Beautiful song and a great review. Please do more George Harrison...solo and with the Beatles. Check out Stuck inside a cloud and Marwa blues from his last album. Just pure heaven...

Great reaction guys. The only thing you can say about this song is hallelujah. George Harrison makes you believe in a higher power whatever that higher power is.😀👍❤️✌️🌼 sorry about spelling or punctuation, dyslexia.

This is the magic of The Beatles. Their music brought smiles, wonder and joy to everyone. George's song of praise rings out today and always as a desire to find true love in spirit.
